'ed manner of constructing a case for a blower,
UNITED i STATES PATENT OFFICE.
P. H. ROOTS, OF CONNERSVILLE. lNDlANA.
Speciicat-ion forming part of Letters Patent No. 411,892, dated November l, 18H4.
To all whom, it may concern:
Beit known that I, P. I-I. ROOTS, ot' Connersville, in the county ot' Fayette and State ot' Indiana, haveinvented a newand Improved Oase for Blowers; and l, do hereby declare that the .following is a iull, clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the saine, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which#-u Figure l represents a. transverse vertical section of my invention, taken in the line m x,
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
This invention relates to a new and improvwhich was patented by me September 25, '1860. This case is of oval or elliptical form in its transverse section, and originally was made ot' sheet or boiler iron bent in the desiredtorm, which is a veryy imperfect mode otA construction.
The object of the present invention is to construct the ci se ot' cast-iron, and insuch a manner that it may be bored out true, and provided with faced or plancd tianges at itscnds to receive the end plates, and the whole form a neat and perfect case at a moderate cost ci' construction.
l construct the case of two semi-cylindrical shells, A A,.ot equal dimensions, and of cast- -iron, each shell being cast separately and with a flange, a, at each end, and a longitudinal fange, b, at their top and bottom. 'lhese parts orzshells A A are bolted and secured together and bored out true in a lathe at their inner concave sides, and the outer surfaces of the anges ay b are faced or planed perfectly true. The two shels4 or parts A A are connected together at the proper or desired distances apart by means of plates l B, which are provided with iianges c at cach side, the outer surfaces of said tianges being faced or planed perfectly true, s0 that they may abut tightly or snugly against thetlangcs 7), to which they are secured by boltsd.
G C represtnt the end plates ot' Vthe case,
' which are of cast-iron, and have each asemicircular bead, e, at cach side, within which the flan ges a of the shells A A it and are secured by bolts j: The edges ot' the Yanges a. are turned,v as well asr the inner surfaces ot' the beads e, and hence the end plates may be ac: curately tted to the shells or parts A A, as will be understood by referring to Fi g. 1.
-At the center of' each semicircular part of the end plates, C C, are the bearings to receive the two shafts ot' the blower, and the distance between these shafts determines the width of the plates B B, by which the two shells A A are separated the required 'distance apart, while the beads e on the end plates, U C, and the anges c on the ends ofthe semi-cylindrical shells A A, insure the concentric position ot' the latter with the shat'ts ofthe blower.
Thus by this simple arrangement l obtain a cast-iron case which may be. bored out trae and iitted snugly and truly together in a dnrable manner.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A case tor blowers, composed of two semicylindrical shells, A A, connectedV at the desired distance apart by plates B B.
P. H. RGUTS.
Witnesses B. F. DREW, SAMUEL ENYAa'r.
