. UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
sooTT SAWYER, or wI-IITE RIVER, COLORADO.
BUCKLE SPECIFTCATION forming part of Letters Patent Nb. 440,655, dated November 18, 1890).
Application filed August 4, 1890.
make a buckle by which the stirrup-strap of a saddle may be quickly and easily lengthened or shortened to suit the riders length of leg. This is now done by means which are tedious, troublesome, and necessitate much waste of time, While it may be done in a few moments with my buckle.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a perspective view of a stirrup-strap provided with my buckle, and Fig. 2 a sectional view of the buckle with the hinged clasp closed. Fig. 3 is a perspective view.
In the drawings, A represents the stirrupstrap of a saddle, provided with the pairs of holes a a at each end, there being several pairs at the end which is to be adjusted.
B is my buckle, which consists, preferably, of a metallic plate 0, turned up on the same side and at each end to form the right-angled parallel flanges c c, the flange cbeing higher serial ll'o. 360 920. (No model) than the flange c and provided with perforated ears 0 0 which carry the pintle D. The latter passes through the eye 6 of the claspplate E, said eye being raised above the plane of said plate. From the bottom of the plate 0 rise two fixed tongues F F, which pass through the holes act in both ends of the strap and then into holes 6 e of the plate E. On the outside of the flange c is also arranged the fixed stud G, which enters ahole e in the right-angled front bend'E'. The plate E is made of spring metal, so that the front E may be sprung on or off the stud G. By throwing open the hinged plate E the upper end of strap may be taken up or let out in a moment and then refastened.
What I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-
The buckle B, consisting of the plate 0, flanged at c c, and the spring-plate E, hinged thereto, the plate 0 having the tongues F F and stud G, and the plate E having the holes 6 e and bent end E, with the hole e whereby the stirrup-strap may be held at any desired adjustment, as described.
In testimony whereof I attix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SCOTT SAlVYER.
