Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN ALLEN, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
SETTING- TEETI-I.
Speccation of Letters Patent No. 4,313, dated December 16, 1845.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it'known that I, JOHN ALLEN, of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful method or process for restoring the natural fullness and contour of the face in cases Where the cheeks have fallen in in consequence of the loss of teeth, absorption of the aveolar processes, wasting of the flesh, or loss of the maxillary bones; and I do hereby declare the following to be a clear, full, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specication.
I, in the first place take an impression with soft waX, of the hollow parts of the jaw opposite which the cheek is to be restored to its natural fullness, from which, I take a plaster cast, and from the plaster cast I form a strong metal cast for the purpose of stamping a thin metallic plate to fitthe defective parts of the aw. I then place the plate thus formed into its proper position in the mouth and mold upon it softened wax, suflicient in quantity to fill out the cheek to the rotundity that may be desired. The plate and waX united are then removed from the mouth, and a cast is made of the wax, as before described, from which a second plate is formed of the same shape of the wax, to fit the cheek. The twometallic plat-es, thus formed (the one adapted to the jaw, and the other to the cheek) are united and soldered together into a hollow bulb, to which artificial teeth may be attached (if any should be required) and the whole secured in the mouth to the jaw bone or natural teeth with clasps, springs, or any other suitable and proper manner, as the state of the aw may require.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1, is a top View, and Fig. 2, is a View of the under sideof the bulb attachment before described, with the'teeth a, a, attached to the same', b, b, are clasps for attaching the bulb to natural teeth, the same being a facsimile of a bulb applied and tted by me to a gentlemans mouth, by whom it is now worn.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The manner of restoring hollow cheeks to their natural contour, and rotundity, by means of metallic bulbs, formed, fitted to, and secured in the mouth substantially in the manner herein set forth; or by any similar attachment secured between the ja bones and the cheeks.
JOHN ALLEN.
