STOY.
GRIBATTAGHMEN-T FOR BEDSTEADS. No. 413,107. Patented Oct. 15, 1889'.
JULIAN M. STOY, OF
Patent @FFICE.
AUGUSTA, GEORGIA.
CRIB ATTACHMENT FOR BEDSTEADS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 413,107, dated October 15, 1889.
Serial No. 311,486. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JULIAN M. STOY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Augusta, in the county of Richmond and State of Georgia, have invented a new and useful Crib Attachment for Bedsteads, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in crib attachments for bedsteads; and it consists in certain novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my attachment, showing its connection with a portion of a bedstead. Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing it folded. Fig. 3 is a plan view.
The bedstead A may be of the usual or any preferred construction, and forms no part of my present invention.
In constructing my improved crib attachment I form the front of the crib in two sections 0 G, which are connected at their meeting ends by the hinges D, as clearly shown. The sections E E of the bottom of the crib are connected at their inner ends by the hinges 1+, which are arranged in the same vertical plane as the hinges D, and the said sections E E are connected at their outer edges with the lower edges of the sections 0 C of the front of the crib by the hinges G. The ends II II of the crib attachment are secured to the outer ends of the sections E of the bottom of the crib by hinges I, and they are provided at their upper outer corners with the swinging hooks J, adapted to engage eyes or loops K on the inner sides of the sections 0 of the front of the crib. The ends H H extend below the bottom of the crib, so that their inner edges will bear against the side rail of the bedstead, and the hooks L are secured to the sides of these downwardly-extended portions. These hooks are provided with longitudinal slots M, through which securing-screws N are inserted into the ends H.
From the foregoing description it is thought that the construction, operation, and advantages of my device will be readily understood.
When it is desired to use the crib attachment, the hooks L are engaged over the side rail of the bedstead, the attachment being thus firmly supported by the said hooks, and the ends II II bearing against the side rails of the bedstead. Vfhen it is desired to remove the attachment from the bedstead, the hooks L are disengaged from the side rail of the bedstead, the hooks J are then disengaged from the eyes K, and the ends of the device folded over onto the sections of the bottom. The said sections of the bottom are then swung down ward and folded together simultaneously with the front sections C. The device will thus be arranged in a very small space, as shown in Fig. 2, so that it will occupy very little room and can be put out of the way.
My improved device is very simple and can be easily manipulated. The hooks L L can be readily adjusted, by reason of their slotted construction, to the thickness of the side rail of the bedstead.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
The combination of the ends H H, having downwardly-extending portions adapted to bear against the side rail of a bedstead, the folding bottom seen red to the ends, the folding front secured to the said bottom, the hooks L, adapted to engage over the edge of a bedstead-rail and provided with longitudinal slots, and the securing-screws passed through said slots into the downwardly-extended portions of the ends, as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JULIAN M. STOY. Witnesses:
SADLER GILLESPIE, CARROLL Ronmson.
