RAILWAY CROSSING.

In 118 nhor imiia' Lulinpsses,
N. PETERS. Fholo-Lilhognplmr, Wnshillglon, 91C:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BENJAMIN B. MORGAN, OF ANN ARBOR, ASSIGN OR OF THREE-FOURTHS TO HENRY P. GLOVER, ENOOH O. BOWLING, AND EDWARD R. E. OOWELL,
ALL OF YPSILANTI, MICHIGAN.
RAILWAY-CROSSING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 403,060, dated May *7, 1889.
Application filed October 23, 1888.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN BMoRcAN, of Ann Arbor, in the county of VVashtenaw and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Railway-Crossings, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists in an improvement in railway-crossings, hereinafter fully described and claimed.
The figures are both plan views.
H H and I I represent the rails of two intersecting railwaytracks, the rails of each track being broken at their intersections.
13 represents a sliding plate set in a suitable bed-plate and long enough to reach diagonally across the crossing, and carrying thereon two rail-sections, F F, adapted to complete the rails I, and two rail-sections, G G, adapted to complete the rails H H. O and D represent two similar but shorter plates, one of which is located at each of the other intersections of the rails II I, and each of these shorter plates carries two rail sections, F and G, adapted to complete the rails I and H, respectively.
The long plate B and the two shorter plates, C and D, may be connected together, so as to be moved simultaneously from a single point in a number of ways, some being illustrated 0 in the drawings, or they may be moved separately, as shall be found more convenient.
Serial No. 288-916. (No model.)
In Figure 1 the central plate, B, is connected by a pitman, L, with one arm of the bellcrank lever A, which is moved by any ordinary switch mechanism, and the plates D and 3 5 O are connected by pitm en L with similar bell-crank levers, A and A the other arms of which levers are connected by pitmen M M with the other arm of bell-crank lever A, so that when lever A is moved its motion is com- 40 municated to levers A and A and the plates B, O, andD are moved simultaneously; or the three pitmen L may be connected bya crossbar, E, (shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1,) whereby the levers A and A may be dispensed with and the plates B, O, and D all moved directly from the lever A. As shown in Fig. 2, the plates 0 and D are connected directly with the plate B by the cross-bar E.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a railway-crossing, the combination of the tracks H and I, broken at their intersections, with the movable plate 13, carrying the four rail-sections F F and G G, and the movable plates 0 D, each carrying two rail-sections, F G, substantially as shown and described. I
BENJAMIN B. MORGAN.
