SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 393,226, dated November 20, 1888.

Application filed March 5, 1888. Serial No. 266,117.

To all whom t may concern.-

Be it known that I, DORA K. FREDERICK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Marshallsville, in the county of Macon and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bath-Tub Seats, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

My invention consists in molding or forming a bath-tub seat of a single piece of condensed paper-pulp and providing the same with a coating of suitable water-proofing material, whereby I am enabled to produce an extremely cheap and durable article of commodity that will be eminently useful in almost every household, as will be fully understood from the following description, when taken in connection with the annexed drawings, in Which- Figure l is a perspective view of my improved seat. Fig. 2 is a vert-ical longitudinal section through the seat resting on a bath-tub. Fig. 3 is a vertical cross-section through the seat.

Referring to the annexed drawings by letter, A designates my improved seat, which is made of a single piece of condensed paperpulp molded into the required shape and coated with a water-proof material. This seat A consists of a longitudinal portion, a, having oblong slots b b through it, the edges bordering which are rounded or beveled, as indicated in Figs. 2 and 3, at c c, for the purpose of allowing a free passage of water through said portion c. the seat portion a a concavity, d, having a perforation through its bottom and adapted to serve as a soap-receptacle.

The ends c c of the seat are directed upward and outward, as clearly indicated in Fig. 2, terminating in outwardly-directed wings a2 a2, the bottoms of which are in a plane parallel to the plane of the seat portion a and form with the ends a a obtuse angles.

It will be observed by reference to Fig. 2 that the outer sides of the ends a a do not touch the bath-tub B except at the angles x x. By this means the seat can be made to fit the tub closely, and yet when it is wet and necessarily elongated it will not bind on the sides of the tub,owing to the inclination of the ends a a', as described. It will also be observed that the seat, which is supported by its wings upon the top of the tub, can be readily moved in the direction of the length of the tub or removed from the tub when desired.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

As an improved article of manufacture, a bath-tub seat constructed of condensed paper pulp molded in a single piece. and dried, the seat being provided with a coating of waterproofing material, substantially as herein set forth.
