Two additional strings or bands extend through the other hem of each square respectively and are secured about the neck of the wearer with the squares of fabric covering the breasts.
3 Claims, 1 Drawing Figure BRASSIERE The present invention relates to a brassiere to be used, in particular, in a bathing suit.
The object of the present invention is to allow in a simple way obtaining a brassiere capable, in particular, of being easily fitted to various breast shapes.
A brassiere according to the invention comprises a string intended to encircle the bust of a user horizontally, while passing under the breasts of the latter, and two breast caps fitted to said string in a manner such that they are able to slide thereon, the upper parts of said caps being held by means of any suitable means.
In this way, by moving the caps closer to or away from each other, every user is able readily to adapt the brassiere according to the invention to the shape of her breast.
According to a preferred embodiment of the brassiere according to the invention, each breast cap is constituted by a square piece of fabric, the lower edge of which is provided with a hem of a sufficient size to allow the string passing therethrough, and the upper edge of which includes likewise a hem within which a smallcord passes, which, after being tied round the neck of the user, holds the cap in position.
Preferably, the string consists of a comparatively rigid elastic band which is covered with the same fabric as that forming the caps, for the sake of elegance.
On the other hand, cords small cards allow, if desired, gathering the upper portion of each cap, whereby vertical pleats are formed, which give said caps some depth and a draped appearance, and make it possible to omit the usual breast darts.
The side edges of each cap are advantageously reinforced at the backs thereof either with a narrow strip of fabric or false tuck, or with an elastic fabric, or else with a rubber strip, in order to prevent, if necessary, the breasts from protruding beyond said edges.
The invention will be clearly understood, anyway, from the following description, with reference to the appended diagrammatic drawing, the single FIGURE of which illustrates, by way of a non-limiting example, an embodiment of a brassiere according to the inventron.
The brassiere 2 includes essentially a string 3 and two caps 4 and 5.
The string 3 consists preferably of a stiff rubber band, each end of which is provided with buckle portions 6a and 6b adapted to close and open easily and quickly. The length of one of the halves of said string is adjustable, while the whole string is advantageously covered with the same fabric as that constituting the caps 4 and 5.
Said caps consist each of a square piece of fabric, one of the edges of which is provided with a hem, 7 and 8 respectively, the size of which is sufficient for allowing the string 3 passing therethrough.
The cap edge opposed to the above-mentioned edge is provided likewise with a hem, 9 and 10 respectively, through which a small cord, 12 and 13 respectively, passes.
The brassiere according to the invention is used in the following way:
After encircling her bust with the string 3 by disposing the latter horizontally under her breasts, the user stretches the small cords l2 and 13 suitably, and knots them around her neck.
The brassiere being thus put on, it is only necessary for the user to move the caps in an inward or outward direction to adjust the brassiere according to the disposition of her breasts.
On the other hand, by pleating the upper parts of the caps to a variable extent, as shown on the left hand side cap 4 in the drawing, it is possible to give the caps a greater or lesser depth and a draped appearance, so that the breast dart usually necessary may be omitted.
The side edges of the caps, 4a, 4b and 5a, 5b respectively, are, besides, reinforced on their backs by means of an elastic or non-elastic strip of fabric 14, or merely a rubber strip, intended to prevent possible ungraceful rolls of flesh.
If should be noted, besides, that the brassiere according to the invention enables a user to profit better by sun exposure, by exposing the skin to a greater or lesser extent to the sun, merely by shifting the caps.
Obviously, as appears already from the foregoing, the invention is not limited to the sole embodiment thereof as described herein by way of non-limiting example: it covers, on the contrary, all modified embodiments thereof within the scope of the appending claims.
I claim:
1. A brassiere comprising two rectilinear pieces of fabric, each of said pieces being folded back and secured along two opposite edges to define first and second hems open at each end, a first elongated flexible member extending through said first hem of each piece and adapted to extend about the body of the wearer directly below the breasts, a second elongated flexible member extending through the second hem of one piece and a third elongated flexible member extending through the hem of the other piece, said second and third member being adapted to be secured about the neck of the wearer.
2. A brassiere as set forth in claim 1 further comprising reinforcing strips secured along the two remaining edges of each piece.
3. A brassiere as set forth in claim 3 wherein said reinforcing strips are elastic.

Claims (3)
