Abstract

A cleaning kit for a gun made up of a tubular container adapted to fit over the muzzle end of a gun barrel, a closure intermediate the length of the inside of said container, a compression spring is supported on the closure and a washer is supported on the outer end of the spring engaging the muzzle of the gun. The container has a keyhold shaped slot in it that receives the sight of the gun, holding the container in place, and the gun cleaning rod is attached to the closure and extends almost entirely through the gun to its breech so that it acts as a safety device preventing the gun from being loaded when the cleaning device is in position.

The container has a keyhold shaped slot in it that receives the sight of the gun, holding the container in place, and the gun cleaning rod is attached to the closure and extends almost entirely through the gun to its breech so that it acts as a safety device preventing the gun from being loaded when the cleaning device is in position.
2 Claims, 4 Drawing Figures '16 50 I? II COMBINATION CLEANING KIT AND GUN SAFETY DEVICE OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION It is an object of the invention to provide an improved cleaning kit and gun barrel combination.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved Safety device for a gun.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved cleaning kit for a gun.
With the above and other objects in view, the present invention consists of the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that changes may be made in the form, size, proportions, and minor details of construction without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is a side view of the cleaning kit and gun according to the invention.
FIG. 2 is an enlarged view ofthe cleaning kit and gun barrel.
FIG. 3 is an enlarged view of the end of the gun barrel showing the cleaning rod extending through the breech.
FIG. 4 is an enlarged cross sectional view of the gun barrel and cleaning kit in place thereon.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS The cleaning kit and gun combination is shown in FIGS. 1 and 2. The gun barrel 11 has a breech 21 and a sight 17. The cleaning kit is madeup of the sleeve which slides over the end of the gun barrel 11 and has a curved keyhole open ended slot 26 which receives and slides over the sight 17. The cleaning rod 13 is made of a slender nylon rod that has joints made like popper beads indicated at 27 made up of a male member that is received and snapped into a female member in each adjoining section. Cleaning tips 22 have slots 23 for receiving rag patches such as 24. These tips may be snapped into the end of the cleaning rod. Cleaning rod 13 is held to the plug 14 by pin 15. The spring 16 butts against the plug 14 and against the washer 29, which is limited from sliding on the rod by the peened portions 30. A crutch tip" 12 in the form of a cap slips over the end of the tube which forms the outside of the kit. As in most gun barrels, the barrel 1] is shown thicker at the breech end 21 than at the muzzle end.
The kit also contains a vial of oil 19 and a scratch brush 18. Cloth patches 24 may also be stored in the sleeve 10. Element 12 is a standard crutch tip" and sleeve 10 is a section of plastic hose. Sight 1? is of a type often found on a gun barrel. Slot 26 is the conventional type of open ended keyhole slot. The rod acts as a safety device and prevents the gun from being-loaded when the rod is in place.
The foregoing specification sets forth the invention in its preferred practical forms but the structure shown is capable of modification within a range of equivalents without departing from the invention which is to be understood is broadly novel as is commensurate with the appended claims.
The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:
l. A gun cleaning kit and gun combination comprismg a tubular container adapted to fit over a gun barrel having a breech,
a closure intermediate said tubular container,
a compression spring supported on said closure,
means on said compression spring to engage the end of said gun barrel,
a keyhole shaped slot adjacent the end of said tubular container,
said gun barrel having a sight thereon received in said keyhole shaped slot,
said slot receiving said sight,
a cleaning rod being fixed to said closure and extending through said gun barrel to said breech thereof, and a closure over the end of said tubular,
said tubular being adapted to receive cleaning articles for cleaning said gun.
2. The combination recited in claim 1 wherein said rod is made of a plurality of sections,
each section has an axially located female socket in one end and a generally spherical male member on an adjacent end adapted to snap into said female socket for holding said sections together.

Claims (2)

1. A gun cleaning kit and gun combination comprising a tubular container adapted to fit over a gun barrel having a breech, a closure intermediate said tubular container, a compression spring supported on said closure, means on said compression spring to engage the end of said gun barrel, a keyhole shaped slot adjacent the end of said tubular container, said gun barrel having a sight thereon received in said keyhole shaped slot, said slot receiving said sight, a cleaning rod being fixed to said closure and extending through said gun barrel to said breech thereof, and a closure over the end of said tubular, said tubular being adapted to receive cleaning articles for cleaning said gun.
2. The combination recited in claim 1 wherein said rod is made of a plurality of sections, each section has an axially located female socket in one end and a generally spherical male member on an adjacent end adapted to snap into said female socket for holding said sections together.
