SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 377,929, dated February li 1888.

To all whom it mayconcern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC H. COLLER, of .Poughkeepsie, in the county of Dutchess and State of New York, have invented certain Irn provements in Churn-Powers, the construction and operation of which I have described in the following specification and illustrated in its accompanying drawings with sufficient clearness to enable competent and skillful workmen in the arts to which it pertains or is most nearly allied to make and use my invention.
My invention relates to an improvement in weight-motors for operating churns and other light machines; and it consists in the peculiar construction hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a weight-motor embodying my improvements, showing a churn connected thereto. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the Figs. 3 and 4 are detail views.
A represents the main frame, and B a ver tical frame which is supported on the upper side of the main frame. On this Vertical frame is swiveled a standard, 0, in which is journaled a pulley, O.

The operation of my invention is as follows: A churn or other suitable mechanism has its plunger or operating rod 1? connected to the outer end of the walking-beam, and the operator ,by grasping the handle Q,causes the lever X to lower the hanger, so that the pinion W engages the wheel S. He then turns the crank in the direction indicated by the arrow in Fig. 1, and thereby causes the wheel S and the drum to rotate,so that the rope is coiled on the drum and the weights elevated. The wheel .N remains idle on the drum-shaft while the rope is being coiled, owing to the pawls slipping idly over the ratchet-teeth in the hub of said wheel. When the Weights are sufficiently elevated, the operator causes the lever to raise the hanger, so as to disengage the pinion W from the wheel S,when the weights descend, and by uncoiling the rope from the drum im part rotary motion to thelatter and the wheel N, and through the intermediate train of speedmultiplying gearing, hereinbefore described, to the crank-wheel. The latter, through the pitman,oscillates the walking beam and causes the latter to operate the plunger-rodfof the churn. The power of the motor and the speed thereof are regulated by adding or removing the depending endof the rope;
