Abstract

A foot and body vibrator having a motor with an eccentric attached to an unsupported end of a platform, the central portion being flexibly mounted to a base, and the other end being secured to or unsecured to the base. Vibrations from the motor are efficiently transmitted through the platform with the assistance of the securement means consisting of hard rubber member sandwiched between a U-shaped flexible spring and thence a base and platform.

Al 254/5 7'47 FOOT AND BODY VIBRATOR This invention relates to a foot and body vibrator apparatus of the platform type adapted to impart vibrations to the human body for the purpose of relieving strain or fatigue, stimulating blood circulation, and generally restoring the body to a condition of comfort.
An object of the invention is to provide a machine having a horizontal platform on which a person can stand with case while receiving the benifits resulting from the operation of the device.
Another object of the invention is to provide an apparatus as mentioned above with a coin controlled electrical circuit by which the electrically driven means for vibrating the platform may be operated. An appropriate housing for the entire apparatus is also provided. A further object of the invention is to provide an improved mechanism for the inducement of the vibratory action by means of an electric motor mounted on a freely suspended panel extending from the pedestal platform and balanced at one end of the open extreme of a U-shaped metal strip properly supported on a rubber member which contributes the necessary resilience for the efficient transmission of the vibrations set up by an eccentrically rotated mass powered by the motor.
A still further object of the invention is to eliminate the use of coil springs in the vibrating mechanism thereby reducing to a minimum the number of parts required, achieving optimum simplicity of construction, producing uniform and reliable performance and diminishing considerably the problems of maintenance and parts replacement.
With the above and other objects in view which will become apparent as the description proceeds, the invention resides essentially in-the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described in detail and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which,
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a foot and body vibrator with the cabinet in position over the vibrating mechanism;
FIG. 2 is a plan view of the vibrating mechanism and pedestal with the cabinet removed;
FIG. 3 is a side elevational view of FIG. 2, partially cut away;
' in FIG. 5. The suspended panel 22 is connected to the FIG. 4 is a fragmentary, enlarged elevational view of the mounting;
FIG. 5 is an end elevational view of FIG. 2, partially cut away, and with the side edges of the platform cut.
As illustrated in FIG. 1, the structure is supported on a solidly constructed base 10 which supports a horizontal pedestal or platform 11 as well as an upright cabinet 12 housing the entire mechanism except for the platform. A handbar 13 is conveniently placed in the front of the cabinet and a coin-slot 14 located in the upper part of the cabinet permits operation of a circuit connector and timer mechanism of a standard type (not shown in the drawing). A light 15 to signal when the unit is in operation is included in the upper part of the pedestal of platform 11 through an extended arm 23 secured to base 10 at a point resting on the upper side of a U-shaped flexible metal strip 26 placed sidewise which gives resiliency to the mounting of arm 23 for easy transmission of the vibrations produced by rotational displacement of a mass 28 eccentrically placed on the extended axle 29 of the motor and secured by a set screw 30 threaded into the axle of the motor, as shown in FIG. 2, thereby providing a means for adjusting the amplitude of the vibrations.
FIG. 4 shows in detail the arrangement for holding in place the resilient metal strip 26 the open extremes of which are separated by a hard rubber member 27 housing on top a slotted headless screw 24 secured to the bottom of arm 23 and a bolt 25 passing through a round hole in base 10.
From the foregoing it is obvious that the particular embodiment of my invention, as illustrated in the above description, is susceptible to many changes without affecting the basic advantages and objects of the invention. It is therefore intended that the appended claims shall include all equivalent arrangements coming within their scope.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed 1. A foot and body vibrator to provide comfort to the body of the user, which comprises:
a. A base;
b. A platform;
