IMPROVEMENT IN VESTS.
Specilieation forming part of Letters Patent No. 37,261, dated December 23, 180:2.
1 9 all whom lt may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID VOGL, of the city of Loudon, in the Kingdom ot Great Britain, have invented a new and useful garment for gentlemen and ladies wear in imitation of Waistcoats and vests, of which the following is a full and exact; description, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings.
My invention consists in fastening vests or waistcoats behind instead of in front by means ot' elastic or rigid straps or bands or buckles or other suitable fastenings, the vest. or waistcoat not being opened in front, but being furnished in front with buttons or studs, with real or imitation button-holes, so as to appear similar to an ordinary vest or waistcoat, as shown by FigureA ofthe accompanying drawings. The straps or bands may be so arranged as to combine a belt with the waistcoat, and the garment may also be combined with cra vats` stocks, collars, shirt-fronts, or any of the said articles of Wear, so as to be a compound garment, presenting the i ppearance of separate and distinct wearing apparel, as shown by Figs. B and C ofthe accompanying drawt ings. For cold Weather, a iiap, forming the back, may be attached by means of buttons or other suitable fastenings, as shown by Fig. Dof the accompanying drawings.
I am aware that shirt-besoins and other garments were heretofore iliade closed in front and to be fastened behind. These I do not claim. My invention ditiers from all such garments, first, in preserving the perfect seniblance and oomeliness ot' the modern vest; second, in being adapted to be put on and ott' without removing or disarranging the coat or other external garment; and, third, in the total avoidance of injury to the front by but toning and unbuttoning. I shall therefore state my claim as follows-l claim:
The construction of vests closed in front, withoutarm-holes,and heldin position around the person by adjustable bands, substantially as described.
DAVID VOGL.
