1 Claim, 4 Drawing Figures suns This invention relates to a strap of the kind used as a connecting means between a lifting or other handling appliance and goods that are to be loaded or unloaded by means of said appliance. The connecting means is in the form of a loop consisting of a core formed by one or more skeins, and a protective covering around said core.
The protective covering around previously known straps is realized by arranging a strip of flexible material and of suitable width around the core and interconnecting the longitudinal strip edges by a seam. Sewing together the strip in the longitudinal direction is a timeconsuming work, and however strong the material used, the resulting seam is the weakest link of the strap and breaks by far too early under the influence of the high stresses and the severe service conditions to which the strap is exposed in use.
To eliminate the drawbacks outlined above, the strap according to the invention has a protective covering formed by a hose or tube with an unbroken seamless wall.
The invention will be described more in detail hereinbelow with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a core formed by a skein;
FIG. 2 is a corresponding perspective view of a protective covering for the core shown in FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 is a corresponding perspective view of a finished strap;
FIG. 4 is a section on line lV-lV in FIG. 3.
The finished strap 1 illustrated in FIG. 3 is of the kind used as a connecting means between a lifting or other IOII handling appliance (not shown) and goods that are to be loaded or unloaded (or pulled) by means of the appliance. The strap 1 is in the form of an endless loop of flexible material. The loop consists of a core 2 formed by one or more skeins 3. For greater simplicity, only one of these skeins 3 is shown in FIG. 1. The two ends 4 of the skeins 3 are preferably interconnected, for instance tied together. Moreover, the strap consists of a protective covering around the core 2. said covering being formed in accordance with the invention by a hose or tube 5 with an unbroken seamless wall 6 (FIG. 4). Such a hose or tube 5 can be provided in various ways around the core 2, but the methods most suitable in point of economy and practicability are not part of the present invention. The hose or tube 5 covers the entire core 2, and one end 7 of the hose or tube 5 is inserted in the other end 8. The ends 7 and 8 may also be joined together in abutting relationship. The hose or tube 5 preferably is of such a length in relation to the core 2 as to form transverse folds, thus being longer than the circumference of the loop, whereby the hose or tube can adjust itself to the changes in length to which the strap is subjected in use.
Modifications are possible within the scope of the inventive idea defined in the appended claims.
lclaim:
l. A strap for use as a connecting means between a lifting and other handling appliance and goods that are to be loaded or unloaded by means of said appliance, said strap comprising a loop consisting of a core formed by at least one skein, and a protective coverin around said core, said protective covering being a flexi le tube with an unbroken seamless wall whereby there is formed an endless loop with said skein running continuously turn by turn through the entire loop.

Claims (1)

1. A strap for use as a connecting means between a lifting and other handling appliance and goods that are to be loaded or unloaded by means of said appliance, said strap comprising a loop consisting of a core formed by at least one skein, and a protective covering around said core, said protective covering being a flexible tube with an unbroken sEamless wall whereby there is formed an endless loop with said skein running continuously turn by turn through the entire loop.
