ADAMS ATTORNEYS VEHICLE MARKER LIGHT BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention contemplates the elimination of one molded part, the marker light base, by providing a marker light of essentially one-piece construction. This is accomplished by incorporating in the molded lens itself means to which a conventional bulb and socket may be secured. Moreover, the lens may be so molded as to permit direct attachment of the lens to the vehicle with an intervening pad. Such a marker light is inexpensive to construct and lends itself to time-saving, single step installation.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is a plan view of a marker light according to the invention;
FIG. 2 is a side elevational view thereof;
FIG. is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of FIG. 1 and showing the lamp and socket in position;
FIGS. 4 and 5 are end views of the lens as viewed from the left and right, respectively, in FIG. 2; and
FIG. 6 is a sectional view of the lens on line 6-6 of FIG. 3.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT The marker light 10 of FIG. 1 comprises a molded plastic lens 11 and a molded rubber mounting pad 12.
The lens 11 is of cup-shaped design and has an integral flange 13 which extends angularly downward from the roof of the lens across the interior of the lens. As seen in FIG. 6, an opening 14in this flange is formed to receive a conventional bayonet-type self-locking lamp socket 15. As best seen in FIG. 3, the lamp socket l5 and lamp 16 are contained within the lens 11 and the lead wires 17 extend from socket 15 through a hole 18 in the pad 12 and a mating hole 19 through a portion 20 ofa vehicle.
Means for securing the lens directly to the vehicle are provided by outwardly projecting flange portions 21 and 22 at the ends of the lens. Flanges 21 and 22 have holes therethrough for receiving the sheet metal screws 23 which pass down through mating holes in pad 12 and vehicle portion 20 and secure lens 11 directly to the vehicle. Reinforcing ribs 24 and 25 may be provided in the molded lens connecting flanges 21 and 22, respectively, to the ends oflens 11.
As will be apparent to those familiar with the art, the invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the spirit or essential characteristics thereof.
We claim; 1. A vehicle marker light comprising a cupped,
molded, transparent, plastic lens having an integral apertured flange portion extending across the interior of the lens, a bayonet type, self-locking lamp socket secured in the flange aperture, a lamp in the socket, and'a resilient pad adapted to be secured between the lens and the vehicle, the lens having projecting flange portions apertured for fastening screws passing therethrough and through the pad for securing the lens directly to the vehicle.

Claims (1)

1. A vehicle marker light comprising a cupped, molded, transparent, plastic lens having an integral apertured flange portion extending across the interior of the lens, a bayonet type, self-locking lamp socket secured in the fLange aperture, a lamp in the socket, and a resilient pad adapted to be secured between the lens and the vehicle, the lens having projecting flange portions apertured for fastening screws passing therethrough and through the pad for securing the lens directly to the vehicle.
