Description
UNITED STATES EDVARD MOEVERS, OF SUSANVILIJE, CALIFORNIA.
BRIDL.
SPCPCATION forming part of Letters' Patent Na 368,601, dated August 23, 189.7.
Application iiled June 15, 1887. Serial No. 241,321.
(No niolel.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD MoEvnRs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Susanville, in the county of Lassen and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bridles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and
. exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in bridles; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of the same, all as will be hereinafter fully described.
The annexed drawings, to which reference is made, fully illustrate my invention,in which- Figure l represents a perspective view of my device, and Fig. 2 is a detail sectional view.
Referring by letter to the accompanyingdrawings, A is the bridle, consisting of the checkrein a, overdraw or face-piece b, crownpiece c, throat-strap d, and bite. The facepiece is constructed with forked ends f aud g, which latter are provided with buckles h, for adj listing thesame to the bit, andthe endsfare provided with loops z', through which passes the check rein leading from the bit to the waterhook on the harness. The forked ends f afo resaid pass through runners j in rear of the rosette k, which latter is attached to the crownpiece c on either side thereof by a screw, Z.
It will be seen that the overdraw or face-piece consists of a single piece 'forked at both ends. The ends g are designed to be attached to the bit-rings or the sliderugs on a four-ring bit or a compressor of a Rockwell7 bit, and are so constructed that the face-piece can be taken up or let out, and it will be further observed that 1 the overdraw is below the ears of the horse and that no brow-band or cheek-pieces are used in connection with the bridle, and that I simply use the ordinary crown-piece with a throatlatch, which latter may be made with one or two billets at either end, forming the forked end of a common crown-piece which are used one for the throat-latch and the other for the attachment of blinkers,if desired 5 andthe rosette consists of the cover-plate and runner, made integral and the screw, which latter passes through the crown-piece below the horses ears and is screwed into the threaded perforation of the runner.
By the construction of a bridle as above set forth the same can be made light, afford coolness to the head of the animal, it is simple as well as cheap to manufacture, and being a com plete overdraw without running over the top of the horse's head, thus leaving the foretop perfectly free, and at sametimeis ornamental.
W'hat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. In a bridle, the combination ofthe runners le, constructed as described, face-piece b, crown-piece c, having,` the throat-latch d, checkrein c, bit e, and driving-reins, all as shown, and for the purpose set forth.
2. In combination with the crow apiece, facepiece, and checkrein, the runner having` the threaded perforation and the clamping-screw, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I ailx my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EDWARD MCEVERS.
Witnesses:
