Abstract

A holder for cake or bar soap including a magnet embedded within the holder for magnetic attachment to an armature in the form of a metal disc secured to and preferably embedded in and flush with a wall or other support, and a second magnet embedded within the holder for independently supporting a bar of soap also having an armature embedded therein. The combination holder and bar soap is adapted for singlehanded operation in attaching the holder to a support and in detaching the soap from the holder without disturbing the attachment of the holder.

Eg- 3A ELDRED E. CASTER INVENTOR.
BYQQM MAGNETIC MEANS FOR HOLDING A BAR OF SOAP AND ATTACIIING THE SOAPHOLDER TO A WALL The principal objects of the invention are:
To provide a combination as above described wherein the bar of soap being suspended from the holder at a single point of contact is otherwise fully exposed to the atmosphere which dries the soap when not in use and avoids its dissolution and resultant waste when placed in a dish or similar container as heretofore. 3
To provide a holder which is of simple, efficient, durable, inexpensive, molded construction, of pleasing appearance and removably secured to a wall or other support with the means of attachment concealed within and behind the holder.
The foregoing and other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more'fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being has to the accompanying drawing forming a part hereof and in which:
FIG. 1 is a front elevational view-of a soapholder made in accordance with my invention.
FIG. 2 is a side elevational view of FIG. 1 with fragments broken away to illustrate an armature secured to and preferably embedded within a wall or similar support and a magnet embedded within the rearward end of the holder for magnetic attachment to the armature.
FIG. 3 is a bottom plan view of FIG. 2 showing a second magnet embedded in the forward end of the holder.
FIG. 3A is a fragmentary detail view, similar to FIG. 3, showing a modified form of magnet.
FIG. 4 is a front elevational view of the armature referred to in the description of FIG. 2.
FIG. 5 is a rear elevational view of the holder and magnet embedded therein as referred to in the description of FIG. 2.
FIG. 6 is a bottom plan view of an armature adapted to be pressed into permanent holding engagement with a bar of soap, and 7 FIG. 7 is a view taken approximately along the line 7-7 of FIG. 6 with the armature embedded in the soap.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing wherein like reference numerals designate like parts, the holder comprises a circular base 1 molded integral with a horizontal arm 2 rounded at its outer end and along bothof its sides and having a flat bottom surface 3 as shown. The circular base has a magnet 4 embedded concentrically therein .and flush with the outer face of the base as shown in FIGS. Zand 5.
As best illustrated in FIGS. 2 and 3, an armature in the form of a metal disc 6 is embedded ina wall 7, or similar support,
and secured thereto by roundhead screw fasteners 8, as
shown. The diameter of the disc 6 preferably, through not restrictively, matches that of the base I to thereby offer max-.
imum stability to the holder.
As shown in FIGS. 2 and 5, the magnet 4 is provided with at least two diametrically aligned recesses 10 whose rims are rounded as at 11 to render the magnet self-centering relative to the armature 6 in the magnetic attraction of one to the other.
In mold-united securement within the outer end of the arm 2 and extending slightly downward-therefrom is a second permanent magnet in the form of a disc 14. For cooperation with this magnet 14 in holding a bar of soap 16, as illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2, I provide an inverted cup-shaped armature 17 whose circumferential bottom edge is beveled as at 20 to facilitate pressing the armature into the soap as trapped air escapes through the vent opening 18 in the top of the cup.
It will be readily understood that I may replace the magnet disc 14 of FIG. 3 with iron filings'or. metallic particles 14A. embedded in the arm 2 during its molding operation, as illustrated in FIG. 3A.
Iclaim:
l. A wall mounted fixture comprising a main body having an integrally molded flat base and outwardly extending arm;
a metal plate;
headed screw fasteners securing said plateto a wall; a first magnet permanently secured within said base magnetically holding the fixture against said plate;
a second magnet carried by said arm in spaced relation to said base;
a metallic member removably secured to an article to be suspended from the holder by magnetic attachment of said member to said second magnet; and
said first magnet having recesses therein matching the disposition of the heads of said screw fasteners to thereby render said first magnet and plate self-centering in the magnetic attraction of the first magnet to the plate.

Claims (1)

1. A wall mounted fixture comprising a main body having an integrally molded flat base and outwardly extending arm; a metal plate; headed screw fasteners securing said plate to a wall; a first magnet permanently secured within said base magnetically holding the fixture against said plate; a second magnet carried by said arm in spaced relation to said base; a metallic member removably secured to an article to be suspended from the holder by magnetic attachment of said member to said second magnet; and said first magnet having recesses therein matching the disposition of the heads of said screw fasteners to thereby render said first magnet and plate self-centering in the magnetic attraction of the first magnet to the plate.
