Int. c1. Bzsb 21/12 U.S. Cl. 30-30 2 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A hair cutting device has a plate carrying a wafer-type razor' blade positioned at one face and adjacent one edge of the plate, a screw-thre-aded means for adjusting the position of the blade with respect to the adjacent edge of the plate, and a supporting bar projecting perpendicularly from the other face of the plate and having its free edge parallel with the said edge of the plate.
The present invention relates to an apparatus for cutting the hair of the head or of the body, and it is inv inexpensive apparatus which will enable an inexperienced person to cut his hair, and in particular make it possible for him to do so correctly.
According to the present invention, the apparatus con- `sists of a structure having a cutting blade and comprising a supporting bar disposed transversely to the plane of said blade, the free end of said bar being parallel to the cutting edge of the blade.
The supporting bar may be disposed perpendicular to the plane of the blade.
The free end of the supporting Ibar may be equipped with teeth.
The structure may consist of a plate, one surface of which carries the supporting bar disposed perpendicularly to said surface, the cutting blade being movable 4and the other surface comprising means for securingit.
The cutting blade may consist of a conventional perforated razor blade, and the means by which it is secured may consist of a threaded rod projecting from the corresponding surface of the structure and passing through a perforation in said blade. There is provided a blade-holder secured by a hole provided therein to said threaded rod, and a securing nut threaded onto said rod.
The end of the structure situated in the vicinity of the cutting edge of the blade may be provided with teeth.
Means may be provided for adjusting the position of thecutting edge of the blade in relation to the said teeth.
The means for adjusting the position of the cutting edge of the blade in relation to the teeth may consist of a rod mounted so that it can slide in a bore in the structure and disposed perpendicularly to the plane of the supporting bar said sliding rod being integrally connected, in the vicinity of one of its ends, with the threaded rod passing through the perforation in the cutting blade and the hole of the blade-holder on which the securing nut is threaded, said threaded rod being disposed perpendicularly to the sliding rod and passing through a slot in the structure, parallel to said sliding rod, which is also provided with means for control of its sliding movement and for securing it in the bore in the structure.
The means for controlling the sliding movement and for securing the sliding rod in the bore of the structure may consist of a knurled nut which is threaded onto a threaded part of said sliding rod, said nut being accommodated in an opening provided in the structure, perpendicularly to the bore.
An embodiment of the invention is hereinafter described by way of an example with reference to the accompanying drawings.
In these drawings:
FIG. 1 is a view, in perspective, of an apparatus according to the invention.
FIG. 2 is a section taken on the line II-II of FIG. 1.
The apparatus shown in the drawings consists of a structure 1 having an edge 2 with teeth 3, and a passage in which is disposed a rod 5.
The rod 5 comprises, in the vicinity of one of its ends, a bend 6, continued in the form of a threaded portion 7 passing through a slot 8 in the structure 1 parallel t0 the axis of the said rod 5.
Onto the threaded part 7 there is threaded a knurled nut 10 the purpose of which is to secure a blade-holder 9 having edges, parallel to the edge 2, with teeth 12.
Between the blade-holder 9 and the corresponding face of the structure 1 there is inserted a razor blade 11.
In that part of the structure 1 which is remote from the edge 2 there is an opening 15 leading into the passage 4, and the rod 5 is provided, at the end opposite to the bend 6, with threading 16, a knurled nut 17 being threaded onto the threading 16 and projecting through the opening 15.
It will readily be understood that by rotating the nut 17 the rod 5 can be caused to move in the passage 4, in such a way that the threaded rod 7 can be brought nearer to the edge 2 or moved farther away from it, as desired.
As the part 7 passes through the razor blade 11, by means of the hole provided in the latter, the edge of the said blade can be caused to project to a greater or smaller extent, at the extremity of the teeth 3, by operating the knurled nut 17.
On that face of the structure 1 which is opposite to that from which the threaded part 7 projects, a bar 18 extends perpendicularly to the said structure, and the free end of the said bar is provided with teeth 19, the free edge of the said teeth extending parallel to the free edge of the teeth 3.
The apparatus is employed as follows:
The razor blade 11 is inserted between the bladeholder 9 and the corresponding part of the structure 1, and the blade is -adjusted by rotating the knurled nut 17 in such a manner that the cutting edge of the blade projects to a greater or smaller distance beyond the free end of the teeth 3, according to whether or not a deep cut is required. Thereafter, for the actual operation of cutting the hair, the apparatus is positioned so that the free ends of the teeth 19 and 3 rest against the users head, and the apparatus is moved in the direction indicated by the arrow (FIG. 2).
The cutting angle will always be the same, so that a regular cut is obtained.
I claim:
1. An apparatus, for cutting the hair of the head and body, comprising a plate having first and second opposed surfaces, a perforated three-hole wafer-type safety razor blade movably disposed against said first surface of the plate, a threaded rod projecting perpendicularly through an elongated slot opening at said first surface of the plate and engaged through a perforation of the blade, a blade holder disposed against the balde and having a hole receiving the threaded rod, a securing nut threaded onto the rod to abut against said blade holder and thereby secure said blade against said lirst surface of the plate, a supporting bar having two ends and disposed transversely to the plane of the blade, said bar being connected at one of its ends to the plate and projecting from said second surface and having its other end parallel to the cutting edge of the blade, and means for adjusting the exposed cutting edge of the blade in relation to the adjacent edge of the plate, said adjusting means consisting of a rod slidable in a bore in the plate perpendicularly to the plane of the supporting bar, said slidable rod being integrally connected adjacent one of its ends with said threaded rod engaged through the blade and blade holder, and means for adjusting the longitudinal position of sliding of the slidable rod with respect to the plate, and for securing it in a selected position of sliding.
2. An apparatus, as claimed in claim 1, wherein the means for adjusting the longitudinal position of sliding of the slidable rod, and for securing it in a selected position, consists of a knurled nut threaded onto a threaded portion of said slidablefrrod, said nut being accommodated in an opening in the plate perpendicular to the bore in which the slidable rod is movable.
