Description
Sept.24, 1968 H. s. MANAHAN 3,402,467 I COMBINATION HAIR TRIMMER AND BLADE HOLDER Filed March 17, 1967 FIGJ INVENTOR. 65mm 52 NANA/164W flrra/q/vsr United States Patent 3,402,467 COMBINATION HAIR TRIMMER AND BLADE HOLDER Harry S. Manahan, 454 Magnolia Ave, Long Beach, Calif. 90812 Filed Mar. 17, 1967, Ser. No. 624,058 2 Claims. (Cl. 30-30) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE To provide an effective hair trimmer and blade holder it is important that the blade, as well as its toothed guard, must be held against accidental removal or displacement. To accomplish this a rotatable latching ring is provided which engages both the toothed guard and the blade. Thus a single latching ring will effect both the latching and the unlatching of the blade.
A combination hair trimmer and blade holder in which the blade is held in the handle against accidental removal by means of a rotatable latching ring which engages the blade. Also the toothed guard is held with the same latch ring so that both of these parts are held against accidental removal or accidental shifting on the handle.
An object of my invention is to provide a novel combination hair trimmer and blade holder in which the blade is engaged by a rotatable latch on the handle to securely hold the blade within the handle.
Another object of my invention is to provide a novel combination hair trimmer and blade holder in which the toothed trimmer comb may be rotatably adjusted 011 the handle by grooves or teeth on the handle engaged by the toothed guard.
Other objects, advantages and features of invention may appear from the accompanying drawing, the subjoined detailed description and the appended claims.
In the drawing:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of my hair trimmer and blade holder.
FIGURE 2 is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional view of the hair trimmer and blade holder with the parts in disassembled position.
FIGURE 3 is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional view showing the blade removed from the holder.
FIGURE 4 is an enlarged sectional view taken on line 4-4 of FIGURE 2.
FIGURE 5 is a sectional view taken on line 5-5 of FIGURE 4.
FIGURE 6 is a vertical sectional view of the hair trimmer and blade holder.
FIGURE 7 is an end view of the hair trimmer and blade holder illustrating various positions of the toothed guard.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates a handle which is formed with a counterbore 2 in its outer end. A slot 3 is formed in the handle 1 and extends substantially the length of the counterbore 2.
A blade 4 of the single cutting edge type fits accurately within the groove 3 and extends substantially the length of the counterbore 2. A short lip 5 may be provided at the inner end of the counterbore 2 and a notch 6 in the blade 4 fits around the lip 5 to hold the blade securely in position. To prevent the blade 4 from being accidentally pulled outwardly with relation to the handle 1, I pro vide a manual latch ring 7 which fits in the annular groove 8 adjacent the outer end of the handle 1. The latch ring 7 is formed with a finger 9 at one end thereof and a lug 10 at the other end thereof, so that the ring may be rotated on the handle 1 and so that the finger 9 can be moved into or out of a slot 11 which is cut in the blade 4, as best shown in FIGURE 3. Thus the latch ring 7 will securely hold the blade 4 against accidental dis placement.
The guard 12 is formed with a sleeve 13 at its lower end, which encircles the outer end of the handle 1. The inside of the sleeve 12 is grooved or toothed, as shown at 14, to fit the grooves or teeth 15 on the handle. Thus the guard 12 can be adjusted circularly on the handle 1 to space the toothed portion 16 of the guard as desired. Possible adjustments of the guard are shown in FIGURE 7. The sleeve portion 13 of the guard 12 is formed with a slot 17 into which the lug 10 fits to thus hold the guard 12 against accidental displacement.
Having described my invention, I claim:
1. A combination hair trimmer and blade holder comprising a handle, said handle having a slot in one end thereof, a blade fitted into said slot, and latch means on said handle engaging the blade to hold the blade against displacement, and a gurd movably mounted on the handle, and teeth on the guard positioned adjacent the blade, said handle having grooves therein engaged by the guard.
2. A combination hair trimmer and blade holder comprising a handle, said handle having a slot in one end thereof, a blade fitted into said slot, and latch means on said handle engaging the blade to hold the blade against displacement, and a guard movably mounted on the handle, and teeth on the guard positioned adjacent the blade, said handle having grooves therein engaged by the guard, said latch means engaging the guard in one position of the parts.
