Description
United States Patent 3,343,774 SELF-DRAINING SOAP REST 0R TRAY James .I. Pryor, Rte. 4, Fitzgerald, Ga. 31750 Filed Mar. 25, 1966, Ser. No. 537,433 Claims. (Cl. 248346.1)
ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE that slope downward and outward from the center section.
An object of the invention is to provide an improved soap rest or tray which is easily cleaned, attractive in appearance and will be self-draining and which may be reversed in position to support a cake of wet soap for automatically and efiiciently draining the same.
Another object of the invention is to provide an im proved soap rest or tray which will be either stamped 1 rom a sheet of metal or, if desired, will be molded from a plastic material for reversible and efficient use.
A further object of the invention is to provide an annularly series of radially extending V-shaped troughs inclined from the perimeter of a soap rest or tray which will be reversible to be supported on either side, and which will automatically drain a cake of wet soap and channel excess water via these troughs to the perimeter.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a reversible self-draining soap rest or tray which will be highly eflicient in operation, and relatively inexpensive to manufacture and produce.
Other objects will appear as the description proceeds.
In the accompanying drawings which form a part of my application:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the preferred form of my self-draining soap rest or tray; I
FIG. 2 is a side elevation of my improved self-draining soap rest or tray;
FIG. 3 is a cross-sectional view through my improved self-draining soap rest or tray;
FIG. 4 is a plan view of my improved self-draining soap rest or tray;
FIG. 5 is a modification of my improved self-draining soap rest or tray showing the outer edges of the V-fianges slightly rounded to simulate flower petals;
FIG. 6 is a further modification of my improved selfdraining soap rest or tray being substantially circular in shape and provided with a centrally located opening;
FIG. 7 is a still further modification of my improved self-draining soap rest or tray; and
FIG. 8 is a sectional view through the self-draining soap rest or tray showing a cake of soap supported thereon.
Like characters of reference are used throughout the following specification and the accompanying drawings to designate corresponding parts.
In carrying out my invention, I provide an improved form of self-draining soap rest or tray being generally 3,343,774 Patented Sept. 26, 1967 indicated by the reference numeral 1, and which will either be stamped in a single operation from a sheet of metal, or which will be molded in a mold from a suitable plastic material.
The soap rest or tray is formed with a plurality of V- shape troughs 2 on one surface and with a plurality of similar V-shape troughs 3 on the opposite surface which, when on a supporting surface, will incline inward and upward from the outer periphery of the rest or tray toward the inner central opening which may be either circular as at 4, or elongated as at 5, as shown in FIGURES 1, 4 and 5. It will "be apparent from FIGURE 8 of the drawings that the central opening will be somewhat elevated above the surface 6 upon which the rest or tray is sup ported.
In FIGURE 6, the rest or tray 1 is substantially circular in shape and is formed with a circular opening 4, whereas in FIGURE 7, the rest or tray 1 is substantially square in shape and is likewise formed with a circular opening 4.
In FIGURE 7, the rest or tray 1 is somewhat oval in shape with an elongated opening 5. In addition, the peripheral ends or edges of the troughs 2 are rounded, as at 7, to simulate the petals of a flower, such as a sunflower.
In either position of the soap rest or tray, the V-shape troughs will incline inwardly and upwardly from the outer periphery of the rest or tray to the opening 4 or 5, which will always be elevated above the surface of the rest or tray-supporting surface 6.
From the foregoing description, it will be apparent that I have devised and produced a highly eflicient self-draining soap rest or tray which will be inexpensive to manufacture.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to Secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. A reversible, self-draining soap rest or tray comprising a one-piece body having similar top and bottom corrugated surfaces, said corrugations forming a series of ridges and valleys, are generally V-shaped in cross-section and radiate from a central portion to a peripheral edge.
2. A device as set forth in claim 1 in which said body has at least one centrally disposed opening.
3. A device as set forth in claim 1 in which said ridges are adapted to support a cake of soap and incline towards the center in one position, and become valleys and form drain channels sloping toward the outer peripheral edge when the device is reversed.
4. A device as set forth in claim 3 is formed from a sheet of metal.
5. A device as set forth in claim 3 in is formed of a plastic material.
