An object of the present invention is to provide a replaceable reservoir safety shaver which lends itself to ready use, and requires no attention other than cleaning after a shaving operation with occasional replacement of a cartridge containing shaving lubricant.
Another object of the present inven ion is to provide a replaceable reservoir safety shaver which is easy to operate, and which is positive in action;
A further object of the present invention is to provide a replaceable reservoir safety shaver which is constituted of'few parts, is appealing to prospective users, and is FIGURE 5 is an exploded taken on the line view of the replaceable reservoir safety shaver of FIGURE 1;
- FIGURE 6 is a perspective view of the shaving head removed from the replaceable reservoir safety shaver of FIGURE 1, and laid down so that the bottom is faced out;
FIGURE 7- is a view similar to FIGURE v3, with parts broken away, showing the valve member after execution of sliding movement in-one direction with one of its passages in communication with the plunger shifted to open position and in communication with one or" the passageways of the head; and
FIGURE 8 is a plan view of the shaving head of FIG- URE '1, with the razor blade mount removed, showing the valve member, in inoperative position and the relation of its vertical passages to the passageways in the shaving head.
Referring to the drawings, numeral 19 designates a replaceablefreservoir safety shaver of the present invention. This shaver comprises a shaving head 12, a replaceable cartridge 14 serving as a reservoir and containing shaving lubricant under pressure connected to the head 12, an open top shell 16 encompassing the replaceable cartridge and having the open top releasably engaging the shaving head 12 and serving as a handle, and a safety razor blade mount 18 overlying and fixedly attached to the top of the shaving head, the mount being adapted to support a blade so that a cutting edge overlies the discharge end of a passageway provided in the adjacent side of the shaving head 12. v
The shaving head 12 has a top it a bottom 21, and a plurality of opposed sides between the top 21) and bottom 21. There are two'pairs of opposed sides, the one pair comprising the opposed sides 22 and 23, and the other pair comprising the opposed sides 24 and 25. The head is provided with a transverse bore 26 intermediate the top 2d and the bottom 21, the bore extending between one of the pair of opposed sides 22 and 23 and opening out of the sides 22 and 23. The head 12 has a passageway 27 which extends along each of the other pair of opposed sides 24- and 25 with one end opening into the bore 26 and the other end opening out of the top 20 of the head 12. Specifically, each passageway 27 is of a configuration, FIGURES 7 and 8, simulating a V with the apex end 28 constituting the one end opening into the bore 26 and the free ends of the legs 29 opening out of: the top of the head 12. p
The bottom 21 of the head 12 is provided with a recess 17, FIGURES 6 and 7, which extends inwardly and terminates at a point adjacent the bore 26, and an outlet port 719 extends from the terminating point of the recess 17' and opens into the bore 26.
A valve member 36) is mounted in the bore 26 of the shaving head 12 for sliding movement in opposite directions, the valve member, FIGURES 3, 5, 7 and 8, being provided with spaced vertical passages 31 and horizontal grooves 31 on its top face. The valve member is formed with an embracing means or groove 32 extending transversely across its under face, the groove being disposed midway between the passages 31. The purpose of this means or groove 32 will become subsequently ap parent.
Operatively connected to each end of the valve memher 3% and normally projecting out of the adjacent sides 22 or 23 is a spring-biased operating button 34, the button serving to effect the sliding movements of the valve member fill in the respective directions responsive to application of a compressive force applied to a selected button. Specifically, the valve member 36 at each end terminates in a stem St? on which is press fitted a button 3d, and circumposed about the stem is a coil spring 33, one end of the coil spring 33 bearing against the button 34 and the other end of the coil spring 33 bearing against a shoulder provided in the head 12, as clearly shown in FIGURE 4. Application of a compressive force to the button 35 iadjacent the side 22, FIGURE 3, brings the passage 31 and horizontal groove 31 on its top face adjacent the side 22, FIGURE 7, into-communication with the said one end or apex end 28 of the passageway 27 in the side 24- of the shaving head 12. Application of a compressive force to the button adjacent the side 23, FIGURE 3, brings the other or" its passages 31 and horizontal groove 31 on its top face, FIGURE 8, into communication with the said one end or apex end 28 of the passageway 27 in the side 25.
The replaceable cartridge 14 has a valve plunger 43 which controls the flow of shaving lubricant therefrom, the valve plunger being normally spring-biased to a closed position, as shown in FIGURE 3. Specifically, the valve plunger 4% is mounted in a socket 46 provided in the top of a dispensing tube 47 extending into the cartridge 14, the plunger having a base which, FIG- URE 2, rests upon an upstanding coil spring 48 supported within the socket id. The valve plunger 40 projects slidably out of the top of the replaceable cartridge 14. The replaceable cartridge is insertable into the recess 17 so that the projecting part of the valve plunger 40 extends through the outlet port 19 and its free end is within thebore 26. and is embracinglyreceived within the embracing 7 means or groove 32 in the valve member 30 witha portion of the replaceable, cartridge adjacent the top encompassed by the recess 17.
Releasable interengaging means on the replaceable car tridge portion and the wall of the recess 17 detachably secures the replaceable cartridge14 to the head 12. Spe-" cifically, this releasable "means comprises a collar .42 I
which embracingly engages the top portion of the re placeable cartridge '14, FIGURE 5, the collar being pro:

position into registry withsaid passage and the associated horizontal groove 31.
Thereplaceable reservoir safety shaver, because of its simplicity of structure, requires no attention, other than a cleaning after use, and occasional replacement of the replaceableeand disposable cartridge containing the shaving lubricant. 'Even' this replacement may be effected with ease and facility, since all it requires is the detachment of the shell 16'fromthe. head 12, the turning or rotating ofthe replaceable cartridge -14 in the direction to bring the lugs '43 into registry with the slot 44, applying a withdrawal force to the replaceable cartridge 14 to cause. the lugs 43 to travel outof the slot 44, the withdrawal of the-col1ar42 from the repl'aceable cartridge and'rnounting upon therefill replaceable cartridge 14, the insertion of the refill replaceable cartridge so that .the lugs 43 are enteredin the slot44, pushing the replaceable cartridge 14 toward the head 12'until the lugs 43. arereceived I J Within or are'engaged by the entry'points of'the. arcuate prises-a guard-'50 which overlies andis fixedly'attached to the top '20 of :the shaving head l2. The guard 50 is provided'along' each of its sides with spaced elongated 1 slots=52 whichare inregistry with the adjacent freeends. of the legs '29 of the -V-'shaped passageways j '27 of. the" head 12.. The foregoing description and figures are for illustrative'purposes to explain the principle and features of the extending through a longitudinal slot 52 providedin the double-edged-safety razor blade f53. The blade 53is held in 'fixedmounted position upon the guard '50 by means-of a backing member 54 which ishingedly connectedto an end of the guard 50and is. swingable from the extended position, shown in FIGURE 5, to a position Y overlying andenga'ging the guard 50. The top portions of the'anchor' bars 51 are embracingly received in a longitudinal slot 55 formed in theunder face of the'backing member, as sh Wn-in FIGURE'ZI The backing member present invention. In. thisregard, the shell or handle beofany convenient or desirable shape or' size. Furfther, the slide member 30, althoughshown as square, may
be round, triangular, rectangular, or any other convenient geometrical shape; 7
The foregoing description, whileitdeals'witha replaceable'reservoir shaver of the multiple or double-edged blade, is by no means restricted or confined .to such. The
presented'replaceable'reservoirsafety shaver canbe used 54 is held in mounted'position by means of the latch y 7 element 56- carried by the backing member and releasably engaging with a hook "57 provided ;on the "guard '50.
It is to be notedthat due to the curvature of the guard 50 and'the backing member 54, the blade'53, when mounted'ther'ebetween, acts to exert a pressure upon the latch element 56 to hold it in tight engagement with the .hook 4 57. i v In use of the thus-described replaceable safety shaver,
