VILLIAM F. RAYMOND, OF SANDUSKY, OHIO.
HORSESHOE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 317,200, dated May 5, 1885. Application filed November 20, 1884. (No model.)
T a/ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM F. RAYMOND, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Sandusky, in the county of Erie and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Horseshoes, and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in Which- Figure l is a perspective view of my improved horseshoe, taken from the under side of the same. Fig. 2 is aside view of the same. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line x x in Fig. 2. Fig. 4L is a transverse vertical sectional view taken on the line y y in Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the spring heelpiece detached from my improved horseshoe; and Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the horseshoe with the toe-weight piece substituted for the side-weight piece shown in the preceding figures.
The same letters refer to the same parts in the several gures.
My invention has relation to that class of horseshoes in which a yielding block of rubber or similar material is inserted between t-he heels of the shoe and additional heel-pieces; and it consists in the improved construction and combination of parts of such a shoe, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A indicates the toe and quarters ofthe shoe, and B B are the heels, which are reduced in thickness toward the ends. Shoulders 'C C are formed facing rearward upon the lower faces of the quarters at the points where the reduction commences upon the under sides of the heels, and tapering spring heel-pieces D D are secured by screws or similar means at their forward ends to the quarters, their forward ends tting against the shoulders O, and the upper faces of these spring heel -pieces are formed with recesses E, in which fit wedgeshaped blocks F, of rubber or similar yielding material, the said blocks fitting between the heels of the shoe and the spring heel-pieces. Galks G are preferably secured upon the under sides of the spring heel-pieces, and a toecalk, H, may be secured upon the lower face of the toe. Screw stemmed or shanked calks I I are inserted with their Shanks in threaded perforations J J in the quarters of the shoe, and bear with the inner faces of their fiat heads upon the forward ends of the spring heelpieces, assisting in securing thesaid heel-pieces overlapping the said ends. Sole-plates S and T, adapted to protect a portion of or the entire sole of the hoof, are secured by screws or similar means to the toe and to one or both of the spring heel-pieces, so that they may yield with the said heel-pieces.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- In a horseshoe, the combination. with the detachable spring heel-pieces, of the screwcalks overlapping the front or attached ends of the same, as and for the purpose shown and .set forth.
Vitnesses:
