United States Patent 3,168,275 HOLDER FOR BOXED CLEANSING TISSUES Stanley T. Grondin, Sturgeon, Wis. (Rte. 4, Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) Filed Feb. 21, 1962, Ser. No. 174,825 1 Claim. (Cl. 248-205) The present invention relates to an improved holder for a dispensing-type sheet material container which is expressly, but not necessarily, designed and adapted to receive and temporarily hold a box of cleansing tissues.
As the preceding general statement of the invention reveals cartons, boxes and containers, usually of cardboard and similar stock are currently being used for merchandising and thereafter handling and dispensing rolled wax paper, aluminum foil, paper napkins, tissue handkerchiefs and so on. While the instant invention pertains to a holder for dispensing boxes, whatever product may be withdrawn and thus dispensed therefrom, it was primarily devised with the thought in mind that it would provide a satisfactory and seemingly ideal holder for cleansing tissues of the type wherein the cardboard or equivalent box is provided with a slot or opening from which the folded tissues are caught hold of and withdrawn for use one at a time. To this end the invention consequently pertains to a sheet metal, plastic or an equivalent holder for a dispensing box.
Briefly, the holder is characterized by an elongated hollow box-like housing or receiver which is wholly open at opposite ends, partly open at the front, and which permits the tissue containing box to be neatly fitted therein held in such a way that the available tissues may be caught hold of and withdrawn.
More specifically the holder comprises an elongated suitably open receiver which is rectangular and essentially channel-shaped in cross-section. Thus constructed the holder provides a fiat back or rear wall, longitudinal top and bottom walls and wherein the forward edges of the top and bottom walls are provided with turned-in companion flanges whose adjacent lengthwise edges are spaced apart to provide a slot permitting access to be had to the pull-out tissues.
The invention features a simple, practical and economical holder of the form thus briefly described and wherein certain marginal edges are flanged for rigidity and wherein at least one of the flat walls, for example the back wall, is provided with pressure responsive adhesive material which may be applied to a wall or a cabinet surface whereby to thus obviate the necessity of securing the holder by way of nails, screws or equivalent fasteners.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
FIGURE 1 is a view in perspective showing a fragmentary portion of a support wall or the like, showing the improved holder and how it is mounted and, in addition, showing in phantom lines the tissue-containing and dispensing box and how it is held for use;
FIGURE 2 is a section on the vertical line 22 of FIGURE 1 looking in the direction of the arrows; and
FIGURE 3 is a view similar to FIGURE 2 but showing how, if desired, the adhesive attaching material or media may be shifted, for example, to the top wall so that the holder may be suspended from beneath a kitchen cabinet or the like.
It will be understood that the invention herein disclosed and under advisement lends itself to adoption and use wherever a satisfactory horizontal or vertical support surface is available. While the holder may perhaps best serve in ones home it is obviously effective for use in hotels, ofiice buildings and, for that matter, can be mounted for use in an automobile or other vehicle. It follows that the reference numeral 6 in FIG. 1 desig nates any appropriate vertical stationary support surface and that 8 in FIG. 3 designates a horizontal support surface. For convenience the surface 6 may be a bathroom wall and the surface 8 the underneath side of a kitchen cabinet or the like. The tissue or equivalent dispensing box is denoted at 10, the same having a slot 12 through which the tissues 14 are pulled out and withdrawn in a now well-known manner. With the present invention instead of placing the box on a shelf, atop a toilet flush tank, hamper, or the like it may with the aid of this invention be slipped into the novel holder 16 and thus better serve the user.
The holder comprises a rectangular sheet-like receiver which may be made of sheet plastic material or other suitable slightly flexible and resilient sheet stock. It comprises an adaptation which is essentially channel-shaped in cross-section and embodies a main flat back wall 18 (FIG. 1), a right angularly disposed top wall 20, and a corresponding bottom wall 22, the ends of the channel or receiver being open to permit the carton or box 10 to be readily inserted and removed. The cross-sectional dimension of the receiver should be such as to snugly receive and hold the box 10. Along the lengthwise front edges the walls 20 and 22 are provided with auxiliary front walls 24 projecting toward each other and spaced apart at their free edges to provide a slot therebetween to permit access to be had to the tissues 14. The marginal edges of the ends of the walls 20, 22 and 24 are preferably provided with outstanding suitably flared reinforcing flanges which are all conveniently denoted by the numeral 26. Then, too, the confronting side edge portions of the walls 24- are flared or bent outwardly as at 23.
In FIGS. 1 and 2 the marginal band of adhesive material 30 is applied to the exterior side of the back wall 18 and is thus attached to the surface 6. In the arrangement seen in FIGURE 3 the adhesive, instead of being applied to the back wall, is applied to the top wall as conveniently denoted at 32 in FIG. 3 so that it may be suspended from the horizontal support surface 8.
As is evident there are so many places at which the herein disclosed holder might be aptly and satisfactorily used that no effort will be herein made to list the same.
It is believed that a careful consideration of the specification in conjunction with the views of the drawing will enable the reader to obtain a clear and comprehensive understanding of the construction of the holder, the manner in which it is designed and adapted to perform and the significant features and advantages thereof. Consequently, a more lengthy description is believed to be unnecessary.
The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
A holder for boxed cleansing tissues and the like comprising an elongated open ended housing generally 6- shaped in cross section, constructed of sheet material, and including an elongated, upright, and panel-like base wall whose upper and lower lengthwise edge portions inelude vertically aligned generally parallel laterally directed top and bottom Walls which in turn terminate along their edge portions remote from said lengthwise edge portions, in laterally directed partial front Walls disposed in a comm-on plane generally paralleling said base Wall, terminating at their free edge portions a spaced distance apart, and defining an open ended slot extending therebetween, the adjoining edge portions of said top, bottom and partial front Walls being outwardly flared and defining continuous reinforcing flanges extending throughout the length of said adjoining edge portions, and the exterior surface of at least one of said 4 base, top and bottom Walls being provided with pressure sensitive material.
