v. BAVARO 3,121,587 MULTIPLE POSITION CHAIR FRAME WITH RoLLERs FOR STRETCHING THE CLOTH FOR USE AS ARM-CHAIR, COUCH, BED AND THE LIKE Feb. 18, 1964 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Filed July 2, 1962 ATTORNEY United States Patent MULTlPLE PQSHION CHAIR FEAR 1E WITH RGLL- ERS FOR STRETCHING THE CLOTH FOR USE AS ARMCHAER, COUCH, BED AND THE LIKE Viucenza Bavaro, Viale Regina Margherita 2, Milan, Italy Filed July 2, 1962,. Ser. No. 206,594 2 Claims. (til. 2971) The present invention relates to a multiple position chair frame with rollers for stretching the cloth for use as armchair, couch, bed and the like. It is one object of the present invention to provide a multiple position chair frame which permits overturning the frame in several ways as required for the desired use, so f.i. as usual arm-chair, couch, bed and the like, wherein said cloth is used as protective means against the sun rays, as sustaining means for the person, the cloth being wound, unwound and rewound to the end for settling by means of two end rollers capable of being engaged bilaterally to the frame by means of pairs of hooks to be inserted into eyelets conveniently provided for on the chair frame itself.
With this and other objects in view, which will become apparent in the following detailed description, the present invention will be clearly understood in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective side view of a multiple position chair frame, from which the cloth has been removed;
FIG. 2 is a top plan view of the cloth wound on stretching rollers;
FIG. 3 is a section along the lines 33 of FIG. 2; and
FIGS. 4 to are perspective views of the chair in several positions which may be assumed by the chair frame for several uses.
Referring now to the drawings, and in particular to FIG. 1, the chair frame comprises a strong and rigid tube, preferably made of metal, and having the sides A and B, which are provided with lower, lateral and upper projections so as to stand on the floor selectively by being supported by the ends 2, 3; 3, 4; or 4, 5 of the projections, in order to assume the position of a conventional chair, or of a couch, or of a bed, respectively, or still as a protecting means against the sun rays as shown in FIGS. 4 to 10. each of the side portions A and B is equipped with a series of eyelets 6 which project inwardly of the chair frame, capable of receiving hooks 7 provided for at the ends of rollers 8 used for winding, unwinding and stretching cloth 9 of the multiple use chair frame.
The hooks 7 are of the snap-hook type, which are easy to be opened and closed in order to permit that the stretching rollers 8 can be connected with the corresponding eyelets 6 in such manner as the chair frame assumes the desired position among those possible by winding or unwinding the cloth 9 in accordance with the required length for the particular position of the chair frame.
Each of the frames A and B comprises a first leg 6' and a second leg 6 The legs 6' of the frames A and B are connected by a first base member 3 and the legs 6 of the frames A and B are connected by a second base member 2.
The frames A and B are thus formed integrally from a length of tubing and the leg 6' is bent approximately 45 to form a first arm 1, while the leg 6 is likewise bent approximately 90 to form a second arm 1 extending toward the joining joint between the first leg 6 and the first arm 1 and then to curve into a second arm portion 1 which diverges from the first arm 1. The free end of the first arm 1 is connected with the free arm of the second arm portion by means of a third base member 4, so that each of the frames A and B is equipped with such third base member 4.
In addition to the positions shown on the drawings, the multiple use chair frame can also be used for other purposes, such as seesaw supporting means, f..i., which application can be brought about by removing the cloth 9 and using a device, the ropes of which are tied to the respective eyelets 6 of the upper portion of the chair frame.
While I have disclosed several embodiments of the present invention, it is to be understood that these embodiments are given by example only and not in a limiting sense, the scope of the present invention being determined by the objects and the claims.
I claim:
1. A multiple position frame comprising an integral length of tubing including two frames dis posed substantially parallel to and spaced from each other,
each of said frames including a first leg and a second leg,
a first base member connecting the free ends of said first leg of said two frames,
a second base member connecting the free ends of said second leg of said two frames,
said first leg and said second leg extending from the corresponding of said base members,
a first arm joined and forming an angle of at least with said first leg,
la second arm joined and forming an angle of at least about 90 with said second leg,
said second arm extending toward the point of joining between said first leg and said first arm to curve into tan arm portion diverging from said first arm, and
a third base member connecting the free end of said first arm with the free end of said first arm portion,
said frame being adapted to be positioned selectively so that said frame is supported by said first base member and said second base member, said first base member and said third base member, and said second base member and said third base member, respectively.
2. The multiple position frame, as set forth in claim 1,
wherein said frames have a plurality of eyelets disposed on each of said frames opposite the other of said frames,
a pair of rollers,
hook members secured to the ends of each of said rollers,
said hook members being connected to said eyelets, so that said rollers are selectively releasably secured to different parts of said frames, and
a length of cloth,
the ends of said cloth being wound on said rollers to provide a predetermined length of said cloth for use 'as a chair, couch, bed and sun shade, respectively.
