Description

(No Model.) l
' J. A. DYBLIE.
SHUTTER WORKER.
UNITED STATES artnr rtree.
JIILIUS AARS DYBLIE, OF GUMMINGS, ILLINOIS.
sHu'rTER-woRKER.
SPECIFICATION forming partof Letters Patent No. 310,566, dated January 13, 1885.
Application filed August 26,1884. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern'.-
Be it known that I, JULIUs AARs DYBLIE,
Vof Cummings, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Shutter-Workers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which 'form part of this specification.
My invention relates to. an improvement in shutter-workers;4 and it consists in the combination, with the blind, of a bracket which is secured thereto, a shaft which is pivoted in the window-stole, and vwhich has an arm eX- tending at right angles therefrom, and a connecting-rod which connects said arm with the bracket on the window-blind, as will be more fully set forth hereinafter.
The object of my invention is to provide a mechanical appliance by which I am able to open and shut outside windowblinds from within without raising the window or removing the mosquito-screen.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis an inside view of my invention as applied. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a top plan view, the blinds and window-frame being shown in section. Fig. 4 is an enlarged detail view.
D represents a shaft which is provided at one of its ends with a square seat corresponding to the square holein key F, and which has its other end beveled on its upper side, as shown in Fig. 4. This shaft is further provided with an arm, A, which extends at right angles from it near its beveled end. The shaft Dis secured in an opening made through the window-stole, and by a double cap, E, sev cured to the window-sill just behind and in a line with the projection I. This, togetherl with the catch H, secured to the blinds, forms the ordinary lock. Double cap E straddles shaft D on both sides of an arm, A, leaving it free4 toa circular and reciprocal motion. Pressing shaft D outwardly in its bearings, the above-mentioned bevel on said shaft D will come lin contact with the catch H and cause said catch to rise up and unlock the blind from the projection I. On the shaft D, between the arm A and the outer bearing on the double cap E, is placed a spiral spring, K, the function of which is to keep the shaft'D outof contact with the catch H. The opening in the window stole through which the shaft passes is counterbored from the inside to admit the insertion of the key F, by means of which the shaft is turned.
B represents a bracket which is secured to the inside edge of the blind on or about-alevel with the catch H, as shown in Figs. l, 2, and 3. This bracket is connected with arm A by means ofa connecting-rod, C.`
The operation of myinvention is as follows: supposing the blinds are closed and it is desirecl to open them, the key is inserted on the shaft, and by pushing it in'disengages the catch H. A quarter-turn is then given to the shaft by turning the key F from right to left, or from left to right, according to which blind it is desired to operate. This causes the blind to open, so as to stand at right angles to the wall. Reversing the movement of the key Will swing the blind back on the wall, locking itself on its hinges. In closing the blind the operation of the key will be reversed.
Having thus Vdescribed my invention, I claim- 1. The combination of a shaft having its bearings in the window-'frame and provided with an arm, a bracket which is secured to the blind on its inner side, and a connectingrod connecting the bracket with the arm of the shaft, and means for rotating said shaft, substantially as described.
2; The combination of the shaft D, having a beveled end, double cap E, arm A, secured to said shaft, a spring, K, bracket B, secured to the blind, connecting-rod C, and catch H,
substantially as described;
In testimony whereof jI affix inysignature in presence of two witnesses.
.IULIUS AARS DYBLIE.
