Mtl- 113) This invention relates to article carriers of a type which are fabricated from a single blank of ilexible sheet material, with the blank being cut and creased to divide the same into a plurality of panels which are thereafter folded and secured in predetermined relation so as to provide, when in an article receiving position, twin compartments separated by a longitudinally extending center partition and handle structure with each compartment subdivided into a multiplicity of article accommodating cells by cross partitions extending in longitudinally spaced relation between the center partition structure and the oppositely disposed side Walls of the carrier.
Cellular carriers have heretofore been designed for use in connection with the marketing of bottled beverages such as soft drinks, beer and the like, Which have been fabricated from lightweight paperboard stock so as to keep down the cost of the carriers and make it practical from an economical standpoint to employ them with the disposable glass bottles recently introduced in the beverage industry. Several forms of a carrier of this type are disclosed in copending application Serial No. 10,971, filed February 25, 1960, which are adapted to be fabricated from a paperboard material of relatively light Weight, for example, .020 stock, las compared with the .040 stock commonly used and which are constructed so that the bottles in the individual cells are separated by a minimum thickness of paperboard of .04() inch in order to meet railroad shipping regulations and permit the use of the carriers in the marketing of beer which may be shipped by rail, the packaging rules enforced in rail transportation of bottled beer providing for a minimum thickness of .040 inch of paperboard material between the bottles and the carrier. In one of the forms disclosed in the above referred to application, double thickness is obtained in the cross partition `areas by cutting one of each pair of cross partition forming panels partially from an adjacent end wall panel, While this carrier complies with railroad shipping regulations and is satisfactory for packaging certain bottled products such as soft drinks, it is not acceptable to -the beer industry because of the spoilage of the beer in the end bottles in the carton due to the light admitted to the sides of the bottles through the apertures inthe end wall panels resulting from cutting therefrom portions of the cross partition panel members.
It is a general object of the present invention, therefore, to provide an improved bottle carrier which is fabricated from a single sheet or blank of relatively light weight, flexible paperboard material wherein the blank is cut and folded so as to provide in the erected carrier a double thickness of material between the yarticles in adjoining cells and imperforate end and side walls so as to completely :enclose the bottles placed in all the cells except for the openings at the tops of the cells which do not affect the contents `of the bottles.
It is a more specific object of the invention to provide an improved paperboard article carrier from a paperboard blank of minimum size which is slit, creased and folded to provide opposed side walls, a longitudinal partition and handle structure paralleling the side wall-s and of approximately the same height, and cross partition members which `are taken atleast in part from the longitudinal partition structure and which extend between the latter and the side walls when the carrier is in erected condition with the cross partitions providing a double thickness of ICC material between the cells and the longitudinal partition structure having portions in the areas between the cells on opposite sides thereof which afford a double thickness of material for separating the articles.
It is a further object of the invention to provide Ia twin compartment multicellular bottle carrier formed from a rectangular sheet of paperboard of relatively light weight, for example, .02() thickness, which is cut and scored to provide a bottom wall forming panel, side wall forming panels hinged to opposite side edges thereof, pairs of end Wall and longitudinal partition forming panels hinged to the opposite ends of the respective side Wall panels, longitudinal partition and handle forming panels which are cut from the material between the end wall and longitudinal partition panels at each end of the blank and cross partition forming panel elements which are cut from the longitudinal p-artition forming panels which extend adjacent the end Wall panels at the four corners of the blank.
These and other objects and advantages of the inven- -tion will be apparent from a consideration of the article carrier which is shown by way of illustration in the accompanying drawings wherein:

Referring to the drawings, there is illustrated an embodiment of the carrier which incorporates the principles of the invention. The carrier is yfabricated fnom a blank l@ (FIGURE 5) of iiexible paperboard sheet material which is of generally rectangular outline and which is relatively thin, for example, having a thickness of .0'20 inch, commonly referred to in the paperboabd industry as 20 point stock. The blank lll is cut and scored to divide the same into -wall and partition `forming panels which are thereafter folded and secured together to form. the carrier of FIGURE 1. Since the cut and scored blank is, to a large extent, symmetrical about the longitudinal and 'transverse center lines a-a and b-b, respectively, the corresponding elements 'which are found on opposite sides of the longitudinal center line a-a will be designated by the same reference numerals and where an element `found on one side of lthe ltransverse center line b--b has a counterpart on the other side thereof, it will be desig- B are subdivided .to provide end Walls and a combination partition and handle struct-ure. The center section A of the -blank is divided in the direction transversely of the blank into a center or bottom wall forming panel 11 and two side Wall forming panels 12. The bottom wall forming panel 11 is separated from the side Wall forming panels 12 by parallel, longitudinally extending crease or score lines 13 which are spaced a predetermined distance apart, which distance is slightly less than the overall width of the carrier in its set up article receiving condition. The bottom wall panel 11 is subdivided into two parts or half panel-s by longitudinal s-core line 14 which is parallel with the score lines 13 and coincides with the longitudinal center line a-a of the blank and which permits folding of the bottom wall so that the carrier may be fabricated in collapsed condition. Each of the side wall forming panels 12 are separated from the end sections B and B of the blank `by transversely extending, parallel score lines 15 and 415 which -form hinge lines -or two pairs of blank sections C, C and C', C', the latter constituting the outside portions of the blank end sections B and B' or the four corner sections of the blank 10. The bottom wall forming panel 11 is separated from the center portions D and D of the blank end sections B and B by the cutting lines 16 and 16' which extend in the direction transversely of the blank between corresponding ends of the longitudinal score line 13 and which are oifset inwardly relative to the transverse score lines 15 and 15.
The blank portions or sections D and D' are separated from the corner sections C and C at one side of the blank by longitudinally extending and aligned cutting lines 17 and 17 which are parallel with and odset outwardly of the longitudinal score line 13 between the bottom wall panel and the side Wall panel 12 at that side of the blank. At the other side of the blank sections D and D are partially separated from adjoining corner sections C and C by longitudinally extending and aligned cutting lines 18 and 18 which are parallel with and extend in outwardly offset relation from the ends of the longitudinal score line 13 in the direction of the end of the blank. The blank sections D and D remain attached to the corner sections C and C' along hinge forming perforated lines 19 and 19 which constitute outward extensions of the cutting lines 18 and 18' which terminate short of the end edges of the blank. The blank sections D and D are cut free of the terminal end portions of the adjoining corner sections C and C' along the longitudinally extending lines 20 and 20'.
The four corner sections C, C and C', C' of the blank are subdivided into wall and partition forming panels in an identical manner by parallel, longitudinally spaced, transverse score lines 21 and 21', to provide pairs of end Wall forming Ipanels 22 and 22', which adjoin the side wall panels 12, and longitudinal partition -forming panels 23 and 23', the latter being separated from the adjoining end wall forming panels 22 and 22 by the hinge forming score lines 21 and 21. End panel members 24 and 24' and cooperating panel members 25 and 25' which constitute two part cross partition members in the set up form of the cal-trier are taken from the longitud-inal par-tition forming panels 23 and 23'. The end portions of the longitudinal partition panels 23 and 23' are cut on the longitudinally extending lines 26 and 26' to free the top ends of the one set of cross partition panels 24 and 24 and the panels 23 and 23' are `scored on transversely extending score Ilines 27 and 27 which yform hinges for the cross partition panels 24 and 24. The hinge forming score lines 27 and 27' are spaced from the score lines 21 and 21 in the longitudinal direction of the blank a distance corresponding to the distance between the score lines 15 and 21. The cross partition 'forming panels 25 and 25' are derived by cutting the longitudinal partition panels 23 and 23' on the generally U-shaped cutting lines 28 and 28'. The cuts are made so that the ends of the leg forming portions of the U extend into the panels 24 and 24 and these panels are scored on the transversely extending lines 29 and 29' which are parallel with l the score lines 21 and 21' and spaced therefrom in the longitudinal direction of the lblank a distance which is greater than the distance between the score lines 15, 21 and 15', 21'. The score lines 29, 29 :form hinges tor the panels 25 and 25' `which hinges are located within the end panels 24 and 24'. Additional transverse score lines 30 and 3d' divide the cross partition panels 25 and 25 so as to provide glue tab forming portions 31, 31' Vat the free inner ends thereof. The panels 25 and 25' are adapted to fold about the score lines 29 and 29' so as -to bring a portion of the body thereof which adjoins the hinge into face-to-face engagement with the end panels 24 and 24 (FIGURE 6), thus lforming double ply cross partition members with glue tabs 31 and 31' bendable about the score lines 30 and 30' for connecting with the side wall panels in the set up form of the carrier (FIGURES 1 and 4). The laterally spaced side edge forming lines Vwhich constitute the legs of each of the U-shaped cuts 2S and 28 defining the cross partition mem- bers 25 and 25" extend in the longitudinal direction of the blank and are spaced inwardly of the lateral edges of the corner sections of the blank. These cutting lines have outwardly diverging portions so that the maximum transverse dimension of each of the cross partition members 25 and 25' is substantial, being somewhat less, however, than the corresponding dimension of the end .panel members 24 and 24' against which these members are folded to form the two ply or double thickness partitions, which, in the erected condition of the carrier (FIGURES l and 4) extend in transverse planes laterally of the longitudinal partition structure and are connected to the inside -faces lof the side walls 12 by securing the glue tabs 31 and 31 lto the latter.
The sections D and D' at the opposite ends of the center portion of the blank are subdivided by hinge forming transverse score lines 32 and 32' into longitudinal partition and handle lforming panels 33, 34 and 33', 34. These panels are of approximately equal dimensions in the longitudinal direction of the blank and in the handle forming areas thereof which are adjacent the cutting lines 17 and 17', while in the partition forming areas adjacent the cutting lines 18 and 18 the outermost panels 34 and 34' have a dimension in the longitudinal direction of the blank vwhich is somewhat `greater than that of the innermost panels 33 and 33 so that when the panels 33 and 33' are folded about the score lines 32 and 32' into face engagement with the panels 34 and 34', respectively, the handle forming marginal portions are in aligned superimposed relation and the panels 34 and 34' have marginal edge portions 35 and 35 which, in the set up condition ofthe carrier, are overlapped and secured together (FIG- URES 2 and 4). Finger holes 36, 36' and 37, 37' are cut in the handle forming portions of the panels 33, 33 and 34, 34 which are spaced equal distances from the hinge lines 32 and 32' so that they are in alignment when the panels are folded upon each other. Finger holes 38 and 33' having hinged rein-forcing tlaps 39 and 39 are cut in the outer corners of the blank sections C and C so as to align with the finger holes 36, 37 and 36', 37' in the nal longitudinal partition structure.
The panels 33, 34 and 33', 34 are freed from the partition forming panels in the corner sections C and C at the one side of the blank by the cutting lines 17, 17 and from the -wall forming panels in the center section A of the blank by the cutting lines 16 and 16'. At the other side of the blank the panels 33 and 33 are freed from the end wall panels 22 and 22' in the adjoining corner sections C and C' of the blank by the cutting lines 18 and 18' which permits the panels 33 and 33' to be folded about the hinge lines 32 and 32' onto the panels 34 and 34', respectively. The cutting lines 20 and 20 free the cross partition panel members 24 and 24 from the panels 3d and 34 so that the panels 24 and 24 may binge about the score lines 27 and 27' `when the carrier is set up. The panels 34 and 34' remain connected to the ybottom form-ing edges of the longitudinal partition panels 23 and 23' on the hinge forming perforation lines 19 and `19' so that these panels may be folded into lface engaging relation yand secured together to form a longitudinal partition structure.
At one corner of the Iblank the cross partition member 24' is cut away at its inner end and -a hook formation 49 is provided on the inner edge of the adjoining longitudinal partition forming portion of the panel 23' which is adapted to engage in a slot-like aperture 41 provided in the bottom wall panel 11 so as to anchor the latter to the longitudinal partition and hold the carrier in set up condition until the articles are placed therein. The other side edge of the section D i-s vcut away at 42 and -a hook formation 43 is provided on the longitudinal partition panel 23' which is adapted to engage in the end notch 44 provided in the bottom wall panel 1l so as to anchor the latter to the longitudinal partition when the carrier is in set up condition.
The blank 10, when cut and scored, is glued and folded to provide the carrier which is illustrated in FIGURE 1. A suitable adhesive -is lapplied to the cross partition panel members Z5, 25' and the longitudinal partition panels 34 and 34' `as shown in FIGURE 5. The cross partition members 25 and 25' are folded outwardly about the hinge lines 29 and 29' into face engagement with the panel members 24 and 24 at all Ifour corners of the blank. A-t the one end of the blank the panel members 24' are then folded inwardly labout the score lines 27 to the position shown in FIGURE 6r. The longitudinal partition and handle reinforcing panel members 33 and 33' are folded about the score lines 32 and 32' into face engagement with the adjoining panels 34 and 34' also as shown in FIGURE 6. The Itwo corner sections C at the one end of the blank are then folded inwardly about the score lines 21 and the corner sections C', C' at Ithe other end of the blank are folded inwardly about the sco-re lines as in FIGURE 7. The longitudinal partition and handle reinforming panels 33, 34 and 33', 34 are folded about the score lines 19 land 19' Onto the two longitudinal partition panels 2.4 and 24 to which they are attached and the assembly is finally folded about the center score line 14 to complete lthe fabrication of the carrier in collapsed flattened condition as shown in FIGURE 8.
When opened up as shown in FIGURE 1, the carrier provide-s a multicellular basket type container with two rows of .three -cells on opposite sides of the center or longitudinal partition structure which has upstanding portions providing a handle or suspending means. The cro-ss partition `forming members 24, Z5 and 24', 25' are secured in face-to-face engagement and each pair thereof is anchored to the inside :face of the side wall by associated glue tab members 311 and 31' so as to provide rigid cross partit-ions each with a dou-ble thickness of the board material between the bottles or other articles which are placed in the cells. In the area o-f the longitudinal partition which extends between the two center cells the panels 34 and 34 have overlapped marginal portions 35 and 35' which provide a double ply so that the articles in these cells are separated by two thicknesses of board material. At the ends of the carrier the folded and longitudinal partition panels 33, 34 and 33', 34' extend full depth between the end cells so as to cover the openings left in the longitudinal partition panels 23 and -23 by cutting the cross partition members and 25 'therein and folding the same out of the plane thereof whereby at least two thicknesses of the board material are provided between articles placed in the end cells. Since .the carrier employs a blank of rectangular shape and minimum size substantial savings of material are achieved and when lightweight stock is employed a very economical and inexpensive carrier can be produced which has adequate :strength and rigid-ity for single trip use, which satisfies the railway bottle beer shipping requirements as to minimum stock separating the bottles in the cells, and which provides for complete 4enclosure of the bottom and side Walls of the bottles so as to avoid any deterioration of contents due to admission of light to the same.
-While particular materials and speci-fic details of construction have been referred to in describing the form of the carrier which is illustnated, it will be understood that other materials and different details of construction may be resorted to within the spirit of the invention.

A paperboard article carrier comprising in assembled and erected condition, a bottom wall panel, a pair of upstanding side wall panels hinged to opposite side margins of said bottom wall panel, an end wall and partition forming structure integrally hinged by an upright crease to each end margin of each of said side wall panels, each end wall 'and partition forming structure comprising three panels integrally hinged to one another on crease lines paralleling the crease hinging the same to said side wall panel, said integrally hinged panels constituting an end Wall panel, a Ilongitudinal partition forming panel, and a cross partition forming panel, with the latter disposed at a right angle to the side wall panel, a supplemental cross partition panel cut from said longitudinal partition forming panel and its associated cross partition forming panel and having `a portion thereof hinged into face-to-face engagement with a portion of the free margin of the first mentioned cross partition forming panel, a connecting flap member on said supplemental cross partition panel which is cut from said longitudinal partition forming panel and secured to a side wall panel to hingedly connect the cross partition forming panel to said side wall panel, pairs of longitudinal partition and handle forming members which are foldable upon each other on .upright crease Ilines and which are integrally hinged to the lower edges of one longitudinal partition forming panel of each pair thereof at opposite ends of the carrier, each pair of said longitudinal partition and handle forming members being secured between a pair of longitudinal partition forming panels so as to provide a double thickness of material in the openings which result from cutting therefrom the cross partition panel members, one panel of each of said pairs of Ilongitudinal partition and handle forming panels having a dimension in the lengthwise direction of the carrier which is greater than one-half of the length of the carrier wherby the inner marginal portions of said longitudinal partition and handle panels are overlapped and secured together to form a double thickness of material in the article separating area thereof.

An article carrier comprising, in completed and erected condition, a bottom wlall panel, a pair of upstanding side wall panels integrally hinged to side margins of said bottom wall panel, an end wall and partition forming structure integrally hinged along an upright crease to each end margin of each of said side wall panels, each said structure comprising at least three panels integrally hinged to one another along crease lines panalleling the the crease line hinging the same to said side wall panel, said integnally hinged panels constituting in order from said last named crease line an end wall panel, a longitudinal partition panel and a cross partition panel which is at a right angle to said longitudinal partition panel, a second. cross partition panel cut from the longitudinal partition panel and said iirst mentioned cross partition panel, said second cross partition panel being hinged about a vertical score line which is spaced outwardly of the hinge line connecting the `first mentioned cross partition panel with its associated longitudinal partition panel to bring a portion thereof into face-to-face double ply forming relation with said rst mentioned cross partition panel, a glue iiap hinged to the free edge of said second cross partition panel and hingedly connected to an adjacent side wall panels, said cross partition panel members each having a dimension in the direction normal to their connecting hinge line which is no less than half the dimension in the corresponding direction of the longitudinal partition panel to which said first mentioned cross partition panel is connected, and a longitudinal partition forming and suspending member integrally hinged to the lower margin of one of the longitudinal partion forming panels at each end of the carrier, each said longitudinal partition forming member comprising a pair of panels folded upon each other about an upright crease and trapped between a pair of longitudinal partition panels at the end of the carrier so as to provide a double thickness of material in the areas of the openings in the longitudinal partition panels which result from cutting the cross partition forming panels therefrom, said longitudinal partition forming and suspending members having vertically extending inner marginal portions which overlap one another and are secured together so as to provide a `unitary longitudinal partition structure Iwith a double thickness of material in the article separating center area thereof.

An article carrier comprising, when completed and erected, a bottom wall panel, a pair of upstanding side wall panels hinged to the side edges of said bottom wall panel, an end wall and partition structure integrally hinged along an upright crease to each end edge of each of said side wall panels, each said end wall and partition forming structure comprising an end lwall panel, a longitudinal partition forming panel hinged to the end wall panel and a double panel cross partition hinged to the longitudinal partition panel and disposed at a right angle thereto, said cross partition having an inner panel hinged to said longitudinal partition panel and an outer panel which is cut in part from a portion of said inner panel which is intermediate the top :and bottom edges thereof and in part from the adjoining longitudinal partition panel and which is swung outwardly about a vertical hinge connecting the same 4to said inner cross partition panel, said last mentioned hinge connection being spaced outwardly of the hinge connection of said inner cross partition panel with said longitudinal partition panel, said outer cross partition panel having a glue flap hingedly connected -to an adjacent side wall panel, said inner and outer cross partition panels each having a dimension in the direction normal to their connecting hinge line which is at least half the dimension in the corresponding direction of the double panel cross partition.

An article carrier comprising, when completed and erected, a bottom wall panel, a pair of upstanding side wall panels hinged to the side edges of said bottom wall panel, an end wall and partition forming structure integrally hinged to each end edge of each of said side wall panels, each said end Wall and partition forming structure comprising an end wall panel, a longitudinal partition panel hinged to the end `Wall panel and a double panel cross partition which is hinged to the longitudinal partition panel and to a side wall panel and which is disposed at a right angle to the side wall panel, the two panels comprising said double panel cross partition being integrally hinged on a common vertical hinge line which is disposed on the inner side of the vertical center line of the cross partition with portions of said two panels which adjoin the vertical hinge line in face-to-face relation, said two panels each having a dimension in the direction normal to said common hinge line Iwhich is at least half the dimension in the corresponding direction of the cross partition formed thereby, the outer one of said two panels being taken in part from the longitudinal partition panel to which the inner one of said two panels is hinged and in part from said inner one of said two panels, and longitudinal partition reinforcing panels integrally hinged to the bottom. edges of the longitudinal partition panels and folded up- Wardly between said longitudinal partition panels so as to form a double thickness of material in the areas of said longitudinal partition panels from which said outer cross partition panels are taken.

An article carrier comprising, when completed and erected, a bottom wall panel, upstanding side wall panels hinged to opposite side edges of said bottom wall panel, a pair of end wall panels at each end thereof hinged to corresponding ends of the side wall panels and extending in end wall forming relation between the same, an upright longitudinal partition hinged at its opposite ends to the adjacent inner edges of the end wall panels, said longitudinal partition comprising pairs of longitudinal partition panels at each end thereof which are hinged at their outer edges to the adjacent inner edges of the end wall panels and extend inwardly thereof a distance no less than the vwidth of an end Wall panel, a cross partition panel member hinged tothe inner edge of each said longitudinal partition panel, a"`supplemental cross partition member cut partially from said cross partition panel memberand partially from the associated longitudinal partition panel so as to hinge outwardly about a vertical hinge connection into face engaging double ply relation withv an outer portion of said cross partition panel member, said vertical hinge connection being disposed intermediate the vertical side edges of said cross partition panel mem-ber and intermediate the top and bottom edges thereof, and a cross partition connecting member extending at the outer edge of said supplemental cross partition member and hinged to a side wall panel.

An article carrier comprising, in completed and erected condition, a bottom wall panel, a pair of upstanding side Wall panels integrally hinged to side margins of said bottom Wall panel, an end wall and partition forming structure integrally hinged along an upright crease to each endmargin of each of said side wall panels, each said structure comprising at least three panels integrally hinged to one another along crease lines paralleling the crease line hinging the same to said side wall panel, said integrally hinged panels constituting in order from said last named crease line an end wall panel, a longitudinal partition panel and a cross partition panel which is at a right angle to said longitudinal partition panel, a second cross partition panel cut in part from the longitudinal partition panel and in part from said iirst mentioned cross partition panel, said second cross partition panel being hinged about a vertical score line which is spaced outwardly of the hinge line connecting the first mentioned cross partition panel with its associated longitudinal partition panel to bring a portion thereof into face-to-face double ply forming relation with the outer portion of said iirst mentioned cross partition panel, a glue flap hinged to the free edge of said second cross partition panel and hingedly connected to an adjacent side wall panel, said second cross partition panel having a dimension in the direction normal to its hinge line which is greater than half the dimension in the corresponding direction of the longitudinal partition panel to which said rst mentioned cross partition panel is connected, and a longitudinal partition forming and suspending member integrally hinged to the lower margin of one of the longitudinal partition forming panels at each end of the carrier, each said longitudinal partition forming member comprising a pair of panels folded upon each other about an upright crease and trapped between a pair of longitudinal partition panels at the end of the carrier so as to provide a double thickness of material in the areas of the openings in the longitudinal partition panels which result from cutting the cross partition forming panels therefrom.

An article carrier comprising, when completed and erected, a bottom 'wall panel, a pair of upstanding imperforate side wall panels hinged to the side edges of said bottom wall panel, pairs of end wall panels hinged along one vertical edge to the end edge of a side wall panel and a partition and handle forming structure hinged to the opposite vertical edges of said end wall panels, said partition forming structure including a longitudinal partition panel hinged to the inner edge of each end wall panel and extending vertically from adjacent the bottom `wall panel to the top edges of the side wall and end wall panels, each said longitudinal partition panel having a handle vforming top portion with the inner vertioal margins thereof overlapped With the corresponding margins of a top handle frorning portion extending from the opposite end of the carrier, and a pair of cross partition panels out irorn each said longitudinal partition panel and folded out of the plane thereof into cross partition forming relation, ione of said pair of cross partition panels being taken from the inner margin of the associated longitudinal partition panel below the handle forming top portion thereof and having a Width greater than half the distance between the longitudinal partition panel and the adjacent side wall panel, the other one of said pair of cross partition panels being 'taken in part from the first mentioned cross partition panel and in part from adjoining portions of the associated longitudinal partition panel and being folded about a vertical hinge connection with said first mentioned `cross partition panel so as to bring glue tab forming end marginal portions thereof into engagement with said adjacent side Wall panel whereby to provide a double thickness of material in the center of said cross partition, and longitudinal partition reinforcing panels sandwiched between each pair of said longitudinal partition panels so as to extend over the holes therein which result from cutting the cross partition panels therefrom so as to provide a ldouble thickness of material in the cut out areas.

A paperboard blank which is cut and scored for fabricating la cellular article carrier, said blank being generally rectangular and being divided by longitudinally extending, transversely spaced, parallel score lines and longitudinally spaced, transversely extending scoring and cutting lines tinto a center section having la bottom Wall forming panel :and adjoining side wall forming panels Iand four corner sections each having an end Wall panel and a longitudinal partition lforming panel, said longitudinal partition panel being subdivided on a transverse hinge forming score line to provide a cross partiti-on :forming end panel having a width 'greater than half the Width of said end wal-l panel, a supplemental cross partition panel out in part from said first mentioned cross partition panel and in part from the remainder of said longitudinal pantition panel, said supplemental panel extending from a transverse cutting line intermediate the side edges of the remainder of saiid longitudinal pantition panel to a hinge forming transverse score line intermediate the side edges of said first mentioned cross partition panel, which score line terminates short of the top and bottom forming edges of said first mentioned cross partition panel, and said supplemental cross partition panel having a hinge forming transverse scone line `adjacent its cut inner end which separates a glue tab forming end section from the :remainder of said panel.

Claims (1)

1. A PAPERBOARD ARTICLE CARRIER COMPRISING IN ASSEMBLED AND ERECTED CONDITION, A BOTTOM WALL PANEL, A PAIR OF UPSTANDING SIDE WALL PANELS HINGED TO OPPOSITE SIDE MARGINS OF SAID BOTTOM WALL PANEL, AN END WALL AND PARTITION FORMING STRUCTURE INTEGRALLY HINGED BY AN UPRIGHT CREASE TO EACH END MARGIN OF EACH OF SAID SIDE WALL PANELS, EACH END WALL AND PARTITION FORMING STRUCTURE COMPRISING THREE PANELS INTEGRALLY HINGED TO ONE ANOTHER ON CREASE LINES PARALLELING THE CREASE HINGING THE SAME TO SAID SIDE WALL PANEL, SAID INTEGRALLY HINGED PANELS CONSTITUTING AN END WALL PANEL, A LONGITUDINAL PARTITION FORMING PANEL, AND A CROSS PARTITION FORMING PANEL, WITH THE LATTER DISPOSED AT A RIGHT ANGLE TO THE SIDE WALL PANEL, A SUPPLEMENTAL CROSS PARTITION PANEL CUT FROM SAID LONGITUDINAL PARTITION FORMING PANEL AND ITS ASSOCIATED CROSS PARTITION FORMING PANEL AND HAVING A PORTION THEREOF HINGED INTO FACE-TO-FACE ENGAGEMENT WITH A PORTION OF THE FREE MARGIN OF THE FIRST MENTIONED CROSS PARTITION FORMING PANEL, A CONNECTING FLAP MEMBER ON SAID SUPPLEMENTAL CROSS PARTITION PANEL WHICH IS CUT FROM SAID LONGITUDINAL PARTITION FORMING PANEL AND SECURED TO A SIDE WALL PANEL
