(Cl. 21186) This invention relates to a laundry hanger, and has as its primary object the provision of an improved clothes hanger adapted to be secured to the shower curtain rod of a conventional shower over a bathtub, permitting the clothes to drip into the tub, and at the same time providing a substantial area of line space otherwise inaccessible in small apartments or the like.

An additional object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which is readily adaptable to a variety of sizes and widths of shower stalls, and which may be readily attached to any conventional shower curtain rod, with a minimum of effort and difiiculty.

A still further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character having improved line tensioning means, whereby the lines will remain taut at all times, such and such tautness may be readily renewed in the event that the line should become slack.

Still other objects reside in the combinations of elements, arrangements of parts, and features of construction.

Other objects will in part be pointed out hereinafter and in part be shown in the accompanying drawings wherein:

FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of one form of hanger embodying features of the instant invention shown as applied to the shower curtain rod of a conventional shower.

FIGURE 2 is an enlarged top plan view of the device of FIG. 1.

FIGURE 3 is an enlarged end elevational view of the device.

FIGURE 4 is a perspective view of a constructional detail, partially broken away; and

FIGURE 5 is a perspective view of a further constructional detail, parts thereof being broken away.

Similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views of the drawings.

Having reference now to the drawings in detail, and more particularly to FIG. 1, there is generally indicated at It) an enclosure for a bathtub 11, which includes a conventional shower curtain rod 12, which is inserted in suitable conventional fittings 13 at the opposite ends of the tub 11. The shower curtain (not shown) is normally adapted to *be suspended from the rod 12, and may be so employed without interference with the device of the instant invention.

The device of the instant invention comprises a pair of elongated tubular rods 14, each of which contains telescopically an extension rod 15, provided with a rubber foot or end cap 16, at one end, rods 15 being frictionally held in position.

Each of the tubular rods 14 is provided at its end with a pair of opposed slots 17, in which is mounted a flexible metallic fastening clip member or band 18, which is adapted to encircle the rod 12, as best seen in FIG. 4. A cylindrical clamping member 19 is secured to one end of the clamp, and contains therein a screw or bolt 20, which, when tightened, serves to clamp the flexible "ice member 18 in adjusted position, in this embodiment about the rod 12.

An elongated bar or rod 21 extends between the telescopic portions 15, and serves as a spacer for the proper alignment of that end of the device.

A continuous clothes line, preferably of plastic material, is indicated at 25, and is connected at one end to an eye 26 which extends through a suitable bore in one of the members 14, and is held in position by a wing nut 27. The line then extends through an opposed bore 23 in the opposite member 14, and through an eye 29 in an adjusting bolt 30. The bolt 30 extends through aligned bores 3-1 in tubular member 14, and is adjusted in position by means of a wing nut 33 so that the ten sion on the line 25 may be increased or decreased as desired. From the eye 29 the line extends through an opposite bore in member 14 indicated in dotted lines at 35, and thence to the opposite member wherein a similar device including an eye bolt 29 and a wing nut 33 is provided. This sequence of operations is repeated through a similar arrangement on the opposite member 14 until the terminal end of the line is secured as at 40 to an eye bolt 41, which carries at its terminal, a wing nut 42. The arrangement is such, therefore, that the line can be adjusted at any suitable normal tension, and suitably tightened o-r relaxed as desired.

From the foregoing it will now be seen that there is herein provided an improved hanger, which accomplishes all the objects of this invention, and others, including many advantages of great practical utility and commercial importance.

As many embodiments may be made of this inventive concept, and as many modifications may be made in the embodiments hereinbefore shown and described, it is to be understood that all matter herein is to be interpreted merely as illustrative, and not in a limiting sense.

I claim:

A clothes hanger comprised of a pair of oppositely disposed parallel tubular supporting members, each having at one end a pair of aligned slots, a metallic band fastening clip extending through the slots of each member adapted to extend around the conventional shower rod of a conventional shower enclosure, clamping means for each band for securing said tubular members in aligned relation, a tubular end rod telescopically mounted in the opposite end of each tubular supporting member, a slip resistant end cap on each end rod adapted to abut the inner wall of the shower enclosure to retain said supporting members in substantially horizontal position aligned with the shower rod, a connecting rod extending transversely between said end rods adjacent said end caps, a clothes line extending transversely between said tubular supporting members in spaced parallel lines and adjusting means for tensioning said clothes line.
