1 Claim. V(Cl. 35--56) f This invention relates to a garment` accessory holder and more particularly concerns a rack or holder 4for ties, belts, socks and other garment accessories.
According to the. invention there is provided a board adapted to be mounted in a vertical position. On the board isa chart constituting a color guide and garment selection schedule keyed to the color guide. The chart indicates preferred and tasteful color combinations for each type of `outward garment to be worn. The board also carries a plurality of hooks adapted to hold ties, belts, and other garment accessories all keyed for wearing with suits of particular colors or with particular color schemes of attire.
One `object of the invention is therefore to provide 'a rack` provided m'th a plurality of removable hooks to serve as tie holders.
A further object according to a modification is to provide a rack having a plurality of hooksV joined by a removable crossbar to increase the carrying capacity ofV the rack.
`Still another object is to provide a garment accessory rack or holder with a color guide and garment selection chart.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to .ace
of preferred and tasteful colors, as indicated at i6, for f each type of outward garment to be worn. Y
Surrounding the chart 14, an outline 18 shaped similarly to the chart is printed. The lbottom long side of the outline is formed with pointed indentations 19 and above each point 20 there is printed indicia 21 indicating ties or the likey `forwearing with suits of particular colors. Four such points Ztl are shown but it will be understoo-d that any number desired may be provided.
A hook 22 is supported by the board underneath each 4 point 20.
Each hook 22 comprises a curved metal body, round in cross section, with one end 26 bent to form a short horizontal portion 32, terminating in a short Vertical portion 34 as viewed in FlG. 4. The other end 30 of the body has a reduced extremity Vover which is slipped.- a hollow bu-lbous cap 24 of suitable material to prevent \ties from slipping off of the hook. The caps of i'the hooks are each colored with a different and distinctive bodying one form of the invention, with an extension Y thereof `shown in dot-dash lines.

Referring in detail tothe drawings, in FIG. l there is shown a rack -10 embodying 'one -form of the invention. The rack comprises a rectangular-shaped board 12. A hole 15 Vis formed at each of the upper corners of the board as viewed in FIG. l and a plurality of spaced holes 17 along the bottom end.
On the face of the board, a color-chart 14 is printed or otherwise applied thereto. `The chart includes a diagram" comprising ruled columns headed by the names of articles of outward wearing apparel, such as suits,
shirts and thelike, and underneath, in boxes, the names color as indicated at 25 corresponding to a portion of the chart 14 carrying the color schedules of the'suit withy which the ties are to be worn.
" A'In mounting the hooks -on the board 12, the hook is tilted upwardly and the extremity 34 of the hook is passed through a bushing 34 in the hole 17. The hook is then tilted downwardly so that its horizontal portion 32 seats in the bushing and the body of the hook extends downwardly along the face of the board, with the extremity 34 engaging the rear of the board and holding the hook in place. Ties are supported byy the hooks by looping the ties over the body of the `hook in the usual manner.
In FIGS. 3 and 4, a modiiied form of hook 22.a is shown comprising a straight bodyvportion instead ofa curved body portion. Each end of the body portion is bent perpendicularly to the body portion. One bent end 25a is again bent forming a horizontal bent portion 32a, the latter bent portion terminating in an upwardly bent extremity 34a as viewed in FIG. 3. The other bent end 30a of the body is capped with a colored cap 24a similar to cap 24.
Referring now to the modification o-f the invention shown in FIG. 5, in this form of the invention lthe board l'12a has a modified color chart 14a wherein the upper long side of the outline 18a forms part of the top line of the color chart 14a, and wherein the indentations `19av instead of ending in points '20 are provided with V-shaped projections 23 midway the ends thereof. In addition, the chart 12a has printed thereon the word Socks in vertical arrangement between the holes I172L and the word Gloves in Vertical arrangement outside the end holes.
In this form, the hooks 22a are similar in construction to the hooks 22 of the form of FIG. l with similar caps 24a, but such hooks are connected together by a metal crossbar 40, round in cross section, with upturned ends 44 and 46 `as viewed in FIG. 5. The upturned ends 44 and 46 are finished off with differently colored caps 48 and 50, respectively. The crossbar 40 is removably connected across the hooks by means of U-shaped spring clips y49 secured to the crossbar by welding or the like and yopening downwardly. The vclips are sprung over the bottom portion of the hooks 22a fastening the crossbar thereto. The portions of the crossbar between the hooks 222L are adapted to support socks in looped fashion,
and the end portions of the crossbar outwardly of the end hooks are adapted to support gloves in similar fashion. The end caps 4S and 50 are colored to indicate diiierent colors for the supported gloves. Of course, other articles of wearing apparel such as handkerchiefs, jewelry and the like might be supported on the crossbar i 40. `TheV-shapedpoint 23 indicates that the socks supported on that section of the crossbar are to be of the same color as the supported ties on the hook` 22a to the left thereof as viewed in FIG. 5.
In FIG. 8, a modied form of hook 22b is shown. The hook 22h is somewhat similar to the hook 22 of the form of FIG. 1, but in this form the metal body is covered with a thin plastic cover 52 and the cap 24 is omitted. The cover 52 is colored any desired color to distinguish the articles supported thereon from others.
The modified form of rack 16X shown in FIG. 9 differs from the form shown in FIG. l in that the openings 17X along the bottom of the board 12X are elongated slots instead of round holes. Each slot 17X is notched as indicated at 54 midway its ends along its bottom long side to receive a modified form of hook 22X. Hook 22X has a curved at body 56 semicircular in shape with one end bent forming an extension 58 extending perpendicularly to said one end and terminating in a T-shaped extremity t), extending parallel to said one end. The hooks are diierently colored to indicate different colors for the articles of wearing apparel.
In mounting the hook 22x in this form, the T-shaped extremity 60 is inserted longitudinally of the slot 17x, and the body of the hook is then twisted so as to bring the body portion thereof disposed at right angles to the board 12X, with the extension 58 seating in the notch 54, and the T-extremity 6% abutting against the rear of the board 12X as shown in FIG. 9.
The display rack thus provides the user with a convenient color guide and garment selection chart in addition to supporting hooks for garment accessories color keyed to the chart. The supporting hooks may be removed frorn the rack board for compact storage and shipment and can easily be inserted in the board to reassemble the rack. The holes 15 in the board permit it to be hung on nails, hooks, etc., on a suitable vertical support. The boards '12, 12a and 12X may be made of 1 plastic, Wood, composition material, tiberboard or other suitable material. The board may be made as long as desired as indicated by the extension 12 shown by dotted lines in FIG. 1, with an additional hole or holes 17 shown for further hooks 22, 22a, 22b or 22X.
While I have illustrated .and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself rto the precise constructions herein disclosed and that various changes and modifications may be made within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
A rack for supporting garment accessories comprising a rectangular-shaped thin board having holes at the corners thereof along one long edge and having elongated slots spaced along the other long edge thereof, said slots having notches midway the ends thereof, a color chart on the face of the board above the slots indicating appropriate colors for various articles of wearing apparel, said charts having pointers pointing toward the slots below, with indicia above the pointers indicating various colors of articles of Wearing apparel, and hooks removably supported by the walls of the'notches for supporting wearing apparel, said hooks each having a curved at body with a T-shaped extremity at one end for insertion through the slot and engagement with the rear surface of the board, the pedestal portion of the T-shaped extremity being at merging into the curved body, the -bodies of the hooks being differently colored to correspond with the colors indicated in the indicia thereabove.
