(Cl. 211-71) The present invention consists of a mounting device for decorative items which, in one preferred form, is adapted to be mounted upon an upstanding auxiliary supporting member, such as an upstanding end member of a church pew adjacent an aisle, and which is provided with decorative-item-ho-lding means adapted to controllably and removably hold at least one decorative item in a visibly observable display position.

In one preferred form, the decorative-item-holding means may include an upwardly open receiver adapted to carry candles, flowers, or other decorative item.

Also, in one preferred form, the decorative-item. holding means may include engaging means adapted to be provided with and effectively hold, mount, or fasten thereto a decorative longitudinal member such as a ribbon and/or a ribbon bow, or the like.

A multiplicity of the mounting devices of the present invention may be carried by a multiplicity of church pew ends along an aisle and may each carry candles or flowers and a ribbon longitudinal member along the aisle for decorating same such as during weddings or various other occasions suitable for such decoration.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a mounting device for decorative items of the character referred to above which is of extremely simple, cheap, foolproof construction such as to be conducive to widespread use of the device.

Further objects are implicit in the detailed description which follows hereinafter and will be apparent to persons skilled in the art after a careful study thereof.

For the purpose of clarifying the nature of the present invention, two exemplary embodiments are illustrated in the hereinbelow-described figures of the accompanying single drawing sheet and are described in detail hereinafter.

FIG. 1 is a fragmentary perspective View of a portion of a church aisle showing a plurality of upright church pew end members carrying mounting devices of the present invention, which are shown in fully operative relationship effectively supporting decorative candles and ribbon.

FIG. 2 is an enlarged perspective view of one exemplary embodiment of the mounting device for decorative items comprising the present invention shown alone and prior to mounting cooperation with a church pew end member and prior to engagement with decorative items such as candles, flowers, and ribbons in the manner il-. lustrated in FIGS. 1 and 4.

FIG. 3 is a fragmentary sectional view taken in the direction of the arrows 3-3 of FIG. 2.

FIG. 4 is a sectional view taken in the direction of the arrows 44 of FIG. 2, but shows the device in fully mounted relationship with respect to a church pew end member and also shows it supporting two distinct types of decorative items comprising an upper bundle of artificial flowers and a laterally positioned ribbon and ribbon bow.

FIG. 5 is a fragmentary sectional view of an upper portion of the mounting device of the present invention including an additional flower receiver comprising a vase closed at the bottom so that it may receive and carry the stems of real flowers and in addition, if de- BJPZIEM Patented Mar. 27, 1962 sired, may carry a quantity of water therein for the purpose of refreshing the flowers.

Referring to FIGS. 1-4 for exemplary purposes, one illustrative embodiment of the invention takes a typical exemplary form wherein it comprises resilient engaging and mounting clamp means, such as the curved spring fingers 10, which are adapted for removable engagement with an upstanding auxiliary supporting member such as an upstanding end member 11 which may be the end member of a church pew of the type indicated generally at 12 in FIG. 1.

The resilient engaging and mounting clamp means 10 is provided with main body means, indicated generally at 13, and, in the specific example illustrated, comprising a thin-sheet main body means of substantially inverted L-shape having an upper transverse member 13T adapted to lie upon the top edge of the church pew end member 11, and including a vertically downwardly directed memv ber 13D adapted to rest against the outer aisle-end surface of said church pew end member 11.

A connecting element 14 is attached by threaded fastener means 15 to the resilient engaging and mounting clamp spring fingers 10 and has its central portion fastened to the vertically downwardly directed member 13]) of the main body means 13 by adhesive fastening means, cohesive fastening means, mechanical fastening means, or by being integrally formed therewith. In the example illustrated, as best shown in FIG. 4, this mounting of the bar 14 on the member 13D is accomplished by adhesive or cohesive fastening means indicated at F.

The main body means 13 is provided with decorativeitem-holding means coutrollably and removably holding at least one decorative item in a visibly observable display position.

1n the specific example illustrated, the main body means 13 is provided with two such decorative-item-holding means including an upper one, indicated generallly at 1611, and a lower one, indicated generally at 16L, with the upper one 16U comprising an upwardly open receiver 17 of substantially tubular form carried by the transverse portion 13T of the main body member 13 and extending vertically thereabove in a manner well adapted to receive and support the stem portions, such as indicated at 18 in FIG. 4, of a bunch of artificial flowers, such as indicated generally at 19 in FIG. 4.

The lower decorative-item-holding means 16L takes a specific form wherein it comprises fastening member engaging means including an outwardly projecting member 20 carried by the vertically downwardly directed member 13D of the main body member 13 and provided with and defining a vertical aperture 2.1 therethrough, which is provided with and which is adapted to receive a fastening longitudinal tensile wire member, such as is shown at 22 in FIG. 4, for fastening thereto and supporting a ribbon means and bow, indicated generally at 23, whereby to effectively support the ribbon in looped form along the aisle end 11 of the church pews 12, as best shown in FIG. 1. At the same time the upper receivers 17 may each carry a bunch of artificial flowers of the type shown at 19 in FIG. 4 or may each carry a candle of the type shown at 24 in FIG. 1 or any other suitable decorative item.

FIG. 5 illustrates a slight modification of the complete invention which consists merely of the addition of an upstanding vase, such as is indicated at 25C, which has a closed bottom 26 so that the interior of the vase may carry water, such as is indicated at 27, whereby to be adapted to effectively support a bunch of live flowers (not shown) in the water 27 and the vase 25. The bottom portion of the vase 25 is received within the receiver 17 carried by the upper transverse member 13T 3 of the main body means 13. All portions of this modification exclusive of the new vase 25C are the same as those illustrated in FIGS. 1-4, and, therefore, will not be described or illustrated again.

In one preferred form, all. portions of the device exclusive of the spring clamp fingers 19, threaded fasten.- ing means 15, and the tubular upper receiver 17 may be made of colored or, clear, transparent or translucent plastic material, thus being of an extremely functional construction and yet of a decorative and highly attractive exterior appearance suitable for church aisle pew end decoration use in the general manner indicated in FIG. 1.

It should be understood that the figures and the specific description thereof set forth in this application are for the purpose of illustrating the present invention and are not to be construed as limiting the present invention to the precise and detailed specific structure shown in the figures and specifically described hereinbefore. Rather, the real invention is intended to include substantially equivalent constructions embodying the basic teachings and inventive concept of the present invention.

I claim:

1. A mounting device for decorative items comprising: engaging and mounting means for removable engagement with an upstanding auxiliary supporting member; decorative-item-holding means effectively carried by said engaging and mounting means and adapted to controllably and removably hold at least one decorative item in a visibly observable display position, said decorative-itemholding means including an upwardly open receiver and laterally positioned and directed fastening member engaging means adapted to be provided with a fastening member for fastening a decorative member thereto.

2. Adevice of the character defined in claim 1, wherein said fastening member engaging means comprises an outwardly projecting member defining a vertical aperture therethrough provided with and receiving a fastening longitudinal tensile member adapted to laterally support decorative ribbon means.

3..A device of the character defined in claim 1, where-. insaid receiver is effectively provided with an upstanding receivingrvase.

4. A mounting device for decorative items comprising: resilient engaging and mounting clamp means for removable engagement with an upstanding auxiliary supporting member, said engaging and mounting clamp means being provided with a thin-sheet main body member of substantially inverted L-shape having an upper transverse member adapted to lie upon the top edge of an auxiliary upright supporting member and including a vertical downwardly directed member adapted to rest against the outer end surface of said auxiliary upright supporting member; decorative-item-holding means effectively carried by said main body member and adapted to controllably and removably hold at least one decorative item in a visibly observable display position, said decorative-item-holding means including an upwardly open item receiver carried by said upper transverse member of said main body member and extending vertically thereabove and fastening member engaging means carried by said vertically downwardly directed member of said main body member and adapted to be provided with a fastening member for fastening a decorative member thereto.

A device of the character defined in claim 4, wherein said fastening member engaging means comprises an outwardly projecting member carried by said vertically downwardly directed member of said main body member and defining a vertical aperture therethrough provided with and receiving a fastening longitudinal tensile member adapted to support decorative ribbon means and effectively mount same with respect to the main body member positioned immediately outwardly adjacent to the vertically downwardly directed member thereof.

6. A device of the character defined in claim 4, wherein said item receiver carried by said upper transverse member of said main body member is effectively provided with an upstanding flower-receiving vase.
