Description

J. M. BUBLL.
GHURN.
' Patented Aug. v'7, 1860.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN M. BUELL, OF ZANESVILLE, OHIO.
CHURN.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 29,460, dated August 7, 1860.
To all whom 'it may concern.'
Be it known that I, JOHN M. BUELL, of the city of Zanesville, in the county of Muskingum and State of Ohio, have invented an Improvement in Dasher Churns, the construction and operation of which Ihave described -in the following specication and illustrated in its accompanying drawings with suicient clearness to enable competent and skilful workmen in the arts to which it pertains or is most nearly allied to malre and use my invention.
The nature of my invention consists in applyingl to the common dasher churn a combined bowl and tunnel shaped device by means of which the cream is prevented from spattering out, and any cream, brought up on the handle, being rubbed ofi, is returned again to the churn, and also in combination with this device a spiral spring which equalizes the motion of the dasher and renders its operation more easy.
In order to enable others to construct and use my invention I will describe the same by reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figure I is a perspective and Fig. II a sectional view, the same letters in each referring to the same part-s.
F, is the lid of common dasher churn; g, handle of dasher; A, device for preventing spatters escaping and returning any cream rubbed oii" g to the churn.
d is the bowl shaped part of device A and in which spatters 1, 2, 3, 4, &c., are caught.
E, is the tunnel shaped part of device A and which serves to receive and return the cream rubbed oi g.
This device may be constructed of wood or any other material desired.
B is a spiral spring attached at one end to device A at g/ and to head block O at e, O being provided with a thumb screw s or other device by which it may be firmly attached to Spring B should be long enough to give in its vibration full and free motion to the dasher and should have just expansive force enough to raise the dasher when once pressed down.
To use this invention place the device A with the spring B and head block O allv attached as above described) on handle g, the device A resting down on lid F. Raise g to the highest point it is to be raised in the operation of churning. Fasten head block O to g firmly by means of thumb screw s or other device. Press down gl.' O being attached will be carried down by it, thus compressing B. When down B will immediately 'expand and raise g to the same point again and so it will continue to operate making the labor of churning to consist merely in pushing down the dasher. Then the churning is completed, unfasten O and raise the whole arrangement of 'A, B and O np and off the handle g.
Vhat I claim as my invention and wish to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The device A constructed as described, in combination with the churn, spring B, handle g, and head block O, the whole operating as described and the purposes set forth.
JOI-IN M. BUELL.
