Claims priority, application Switzerland October 28, 1952 3 Claims. (Cl.-24205.14)
This invention relates to a slide for slide fasteners of the type having two cooperating fastener stringers each comprising a row of closure members, said fastener stringers" running through a bifurcated guiding channel of the slide, said slide further comprising a manipulating member, a bracket, a slide body separately manufactured from said bracket and a locking element provided insaid slide body and having a projection projecting into said bifurcated channel and adapted to engage the intervals' between said closure members, in order to lock the slide against displacement along the rows of closure members.
It is a prime object of the present invention to provide a slide of the above-mentioned type, in which the manipulating member cooperates with said locking element on three different sides of said slide in such a way, that a pull effected upon said manipulating member results in a movement of the bracket relative to the slide body, which movement retracts the said projection of the locking element out of engagement with said closure members and out of said guiding channel.
The slide according to the present invention has the advantage that it may be operated from either side of the slide fastener by means of one andthe same manipulating member, and that this member cooperates at either side of the fastener with the locking element for retraction of the latter out of its locking position when the slide is to be shifted along the stringers of the slide fastener.
The slide of the present invention is especially suitable for use in articles of dress such as jackets, coats 21.0. as well as also in tents and any other places where operation of the slide fastener from both sides of it is required.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification of which the accompanying drawings form a part and represent an embodiment of the invention given merely by example.

The slide represented in the annexed drawings is provided with a slide body 1 and with a bracket 2, manufactured separately of each other, preferably by pressing or die casting metal or any suitable synthetic material. The slide body 1 comprises in known way an upper slide plate 3 and a lower slide plate 4 rigidly connected to each other by a slide wedge 5. T- shaped members 6 and 7, respectively, are provided at the end of the upper and lower slide plate 3, 4 respectively. The bracket 2 is provided with corresponding T-shaped grooves 8 and 9, respectively, which, as the slide is assembled, receive the T- shaped members 6, 7 of the slide plates 3, 4, re-
spectively.

The T-shaped member 6 projects upwardly from a rib 10 extending over the whole upper slide plate 3 and forming at the rear end of the slide body a forked member 11 The rib 10 is further provided with a recess 12 extending unto the T-shaped member 6 and opening into an enlarged space 13.
A T-shaped, curved locking element 14 is disposed in the recess 12, which element has its leg laterally curved out at its end 15 and provided with a pawl 17. The lock- I ing element 14 is provided with a hole 18 and the forked member 11 of the slide body l'provided with a hole 1.9. The locking element 14 is connected with the slide body 1 by means of a pin 20 pressed into the hole 19. The locking element 14 is rotatably mounted on said pin 20. The U-shaped bracket 2 is provided at its upper leg with a recess 21 and at its curved portion adjacent the lower leg with a projection 22. The recess 21 is adapted to receive, as the slide is assembled, the upper transverse portion 23 of the locking element 14, and to assure the connection of the bracket 2 with the slide body 1.
In order to press the pawl 17 of the locking element 14 for engaging the intervals between the not shown closure members of the slide fastener a boring 24 is provided in the wedge 5 of the slide, which boring 2 4 is adapted to receive a small spring 25 acting against the transverse portion 26 of the locking element 14 Assuming the manipulating member 27 is on the upper side 3 of the slide and is pulled forwardly (Fig. 3). The heels 28 of said manipulating member 27 will bear against the abutment 29 of the bracket'and pull the latter forwardl'y. Thereby the projection 22 of the'bracket 2 bears against the transverse portion 26 of the'locking element 14 and tilts the pawl 17 out of its locking position. As soon as the pull on the manipulating member 27 ends, the spring 25 presses the locking element 14 back into its locking position. In order to shift the slide in the opposite direction, the manipulating member 27 is pulled rearwardly and the two heels 28 at the ends of the legs of the member 27 bear against the rear limiting wall 30 of the bracket 2 (Fig. 4). Thereby the bracket 2 is pulled rearwardly and the surface 31 of the recess 21 bears against the upper transverse portion 23 of the locking element 14, tilting the pawl 17 out of its locking position between the closure members of the slide fastener. As soon as the pull on the manipulating member 27 ends, the locking element is tilted back into its locking position by the action of the spring 25.
Assuming now that the manipulating member 27 is on the lower side 4 of the slide and pulled forwardly (Fig. 5). The heels 28 of the member 27 will bear against the abutment 32'of the bracket and pull the latter forwardly. Thereby the projection 22 of the bracket 2 bears against the transverse portion 26 of the locking element and tilts the pawl 17 out of its locking position. As soon as the pull on the manipulating member 27 ends, the spring 25 presses the locking element 14 back into its locking position.
In order to shift the slide in the opposite direction, the manipulating member 27 is pulled rearwardly and the two heels 28 of the legs of the member 27 bear against the rear limiting wall 30 of the bracket 2. Iclaim: p 1 In a slide for a slide fastener comprising a body formed with a longitudinally extending fastener receiving channel, an operatively U-shapedbracket. having laterally spaced legs slidably mounted on said body at opposite sides thereof, respectively, for movement longitudinally thereof and having a part at one. end of said body extending transversely thereof for connecting said legs, a pull for said slide carried by said bracket for sliding said slide selectively in either of opposite directions, such operations of said pull acting to slide said bracket relative to said body in the selected direction in which the pull is operated, the combination of a rigid operatively T-shaped memberwhich adjacent the juncture of the stem and cross-arm of such T is swingably mounted on said body adjacent said transversely extending part of said bracket, said stem extending longitudinally of said body toward the open end of said bracket and adjacent its free end carrying a locking pawl for theslide; said bracket being formed to present oppositely facing abutments, one at one side of the axis of swinging of said T-shaped member and the other at the opposite side of said axis, cooperating with those portions of the crossarm of such T which lie at opposite sides, respectively, of said axis for causing such sliding of said bracket relative to said body in either of said opposite directions by operation of the pull to swing said T-shaped member in each instance in the samedirection to raise such stem for moving said pawl into unlocked position; and a compression spring carried by said body and acting on said T-shaped member for swinging said member in the opposite direction to lower said stem for moving said pawl into locked position when the pull is not being operated.
2. The combination according to claim 1 in which one of the oppositely facing abutments on the bracket acts on the cross-arm to swing it when the pull slides the bracket relative to the slide body in such direction as tends to move the transversely extending part of the bracket away from the end of said body, said body being formed to present a third abutment cooperating with that portion of the cross-arm which cooperates with the other of said oppositely facing abutments to act as a stop for limiting the degree of swinging of the T-shaped member in pawl unlocking direction by the first mentioned abutment, whereby said third abutment prevents said 'T-shaped member frorn being swung far enough by said first mentioned abutment to move out of cooperation with that abutment thus causing the cross-arm to retain said bracket on said body.

The combination according to claim 1 in which one of the oppositelyfacing abutments on the bracket acts on the cross-arm to swing it when the pull slides the bracket relative to the slide body in such direction as tends to move the transversely extending part of the bracket away from the end of said body, said body being formed to present a third abutment cooperating with that portion of the cross-arm which cooperates with the other of said oppositely facing abutments to act as a stop for limiting the degree of swinging of the T-shaped member in pawl unlocking direction by the first mentioned abutment, whereby said third abutment prevents said T-shaped member from being swung far enough by said first mentioned abutment to move it out of cooperation with that abutment thus causing the cross-arm to retain said bracket on said body, and the compression spring is constituted by ahelically coiled spring received in a bore formed in the slide body, the spring at one end butting against the portion of said cross-arm with which said third abutment cooperates.
