Description

Nov. 5, 1957 c. F. BRowNFlELD UNIQUE CONTAINER 0R PACKAGE ,Filed July 7, 1955 fia IAIIHIIII United States Patent UNIQUE CONTAINER R PACKAGE Charles F. Brownfield, Chicago, Ill.
Application .Iuly 7, 1953, Serial No. 366,550
1 Claim. (Cl. 206-41.2)
This invention relates to a new improved container or package for cigars or cigarettes. The package is an improvement over the usual packages or containers of the prior art that are hard to open and hard to keep air out after being opened. My improved package assures freshness and availability, each cigar or cigarette being sealed in an individual space which may be either round, square or triangular.
My invention further relates to cigars, cigarettes and the like provided with novel means to remove the same from the package or container.
A further object is the provision of a container or package of the type described which will be simple in construction, economical to manufacture and highly efficient in use.
Other objects will be more apparent from the following description wherein reference is had to the accompanying drawings, upon which:
Fig. 1 is a front perspective view of a container or package constructed in accordance with my invention, with a portion of the top being removed and one of the cigarettes therein being raised in a removing action;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a cigarette and one of the strips and portion of the top that is used for removing the same;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross-sectional View through the package shown in Fig. 1, and is taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a removal strip attached to the cork tip of a cigarette;
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary cross-sectional view similar to Fig. 3, showing spring means for ejecting cigarettes from the package or container; and
Fig. 6 is a similar fragmentary cross-sectional view showing a rubber band for a similar use.
In the embodiment of the invention shown in the drawings, 10 comprises a conventional cigar or cigarette case having a plurality of individual tubular receptacles 12 for cigarettes. Each of the cigarettes C is positioned in one of the individual containers 12, each cigarette having associated therewith in the container a flexible strip 14 formed with a portion 16 to underlie the end of a cigarette C, and fastened adjacent the end 16 to a rigid paper board strip 18 which is positioned along one side of the cigarette in its individual holder 12.
The opposite end of the strip 14 may be attached to a portion 20 of the top of the cigarette case, each portion 20 having a flexible strip 22 that is adhesively secured to the side of the package 10, the strips 22 having serrated edges 24 for easily tearing oli the same.
plan
In Fig. 4 I have shown a modified form of the invention wherein the strip 14 has an upper end 26 which is not connected to the top portion 20, but extends out wardly therefrom, and after the cover 20 is open the cigarette C may be withdrawn with the tape 26 of the strip 14, the opposite end 28 being fastened by scotch tape 30 or otherwise to the cork tip end C1 of the cigarette.
In Fig. 5 I have shown a modified form of cigarette ejector which may comprise an individual coiled spring 32 positioned in the holders 12 below each of the cigarettes C. With this construction, when the cap 20 is pulled loose, the cigarettes will be moved upwardly by the spring members 32.
In Fig. 6 I have shown a further modified form of the invention wherein I secure the upper end 34 of a strip of rubber 36 adjacent the upper end of the opening in the holder 12. The lower end 40 is fastened to the portion 16 of the removing strips and the band is stretched so that when the individual tops 20 are removed the taut rubber band will move the cigarette upwardly, uncovering a portion of the same.
While I have illustrated and described a specic embodiment of the invention, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that changes and modifications may be made therein, and I do not wish to limit myself in any particular; rather what I claim as new and desire to secure and protect by Letters Patent of the United States is:
A package of cigarettes comprising a main container that is generally cubical in shape, said container having a pair of rows of vertically disposed individual cigarette holding containers therein, individual cigarettes in each of said containers, individual cover strips on said main container overlying the open ends of each cigarette holding container, an L-shaped strip positioned in the lower end of each cigarette container, a stretched rubber band secured to said strip and fastened at its upper end in said container whereby when a cover strip is removed from the open end of one of said cigarette holding containers a cigarette will be raised in its container with its end projecting above the top of the main container.
