Description

March 5, 1957 M. WILSON SHAVING ATTACHMENT FOR ELECTRIC SHAVERS Filed Dec. 22, 1955 United States SHAVING ATTACHIVIENT FOR ELECTRIC SHAVERS The present invention relates generally to electric shavers, and more particularly to an attachment for reciprocative type electric shavers for cutting or shaving hairs in restrictive places, as the nostrils and ears.
In brief, the present invention comprises a base member of elongated tubular configuration formed for removable attachment to the head of a standard reciprocative shaver without modification thereof. One end of the base member extends outwardly from the shaver head and is suitably slotted in a manner similar to the outer member of the shaver head. Mounted within the base member is a reciprocatable member which has at one end cutting slots cooperatively disposed in respect to the slotted portion of the base member, and has at the other end means for connection to the reciprocated arm of the shaver.
Hence, an object of the present invention is to provide a novel attachment for electric shavers, which is eflectively powered thereby to shave or cut hairs in restricted places, as the nostrils and ears.
Another object is to provide a novel attachment for electric shavers which can be readily removably attached to a standard electric shaver without modification thereof.
Another object is to provide a novel attachment for electric shavers which is of simple construction, and which can be used by an individual with a minimum of instruction.
Another object is to provide a novel attachment for electric shavers which can be easily cleaned and repaired.
The foregoing and other objects and advantages are apparent from the following description taken with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure l is a top plan view of a reciprocative type shaver, such as the Remington triple head, illustrating a preferred embodiment of the present invention attached thereto;
Figure 2 is a side elevational view of the assembly of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is an enlarged top plan view of the present novel shaving or cutting attachment;
Figure 4 is a bottom plan view thereof;
Figure 5 is an enlarged vertical cross-sectional view taken on substantially the line 55 of Figure 1;
Figures 6, 7, 8 and 9 are further enlarged transverse cross-sectional views taken substantially on the lines 6-6, 77, 88 and 9-9 of Figure 5; and
Figure 10 is a top plan view of the reciprocatable member of the attachment.
Referring to the drawing more particularly by reference numerals, 12 indicates a reciprocative type electric shaver, such as the Remington, which has three heads 14, 16 and 18, into each of which extends a vertical reciprocative shaft or arm 20.
A preferred embodiment of the present novel shaving or cutting attachment, designated 22, is shown operatively mounted on the shaver 12 in Figures 1, 2 and 5-9. The attachment 22 includes a base member 24 and a reciprocative member 26 removably mounted therein.
" 2,783,533 C6 Patented Mar. 5, 1957 The base member 24 is of elongated hollow cylindrical form, as is clear from the drawing, one section of which is cut away to provide opposed mounting edges 28, a stop 30, and a reduced portion 32 which terminates in a right angular flange 34. The other section 35, which is of reduced diameter, includes opposed equally spaced transverse slots or channels 36, and is normally closed by a removable plug 38. A ring is securely mounted in the first-mentioned section of the base member 24 at the juncture with the second-mentioned section thereof, as is clear from Figure 5, and includes a guide and stop boss 42. The ring 40 has a reduced portion 44 which extends into the head 16.
The reciprocative member 26 is of elongated form and includes a hollow cylindrical portion 46 and a shaft portion 48. The cylindrical portion 46 has opposed equally spaced transverse slots or channels 50. The shaft portion 48 has an elongated slot 52, an aperture 54, and a manipulative knob 56. The cylindrical portion 46 may be split longitudinally between the slots 50 to allow some tension against the inner walls of the section 35 (not shown).
Figure 5 clearly illustrates the assembled attachment 22 mounted upon the shaver 12 with the base member 24 clamped in operative position on the head 16, and with the aperture 54 surrounding the free end of the reciprocatable stem 29. It will be noted that the boss 42 is in the channel 52, which insures proper alignment of the slots 50 with the slots 36. The attachment is ready for use to shave or cut hair in restricted places, as the nostrils and ears, energization of the shaver 12 eflecting reciprocation of the reciprocative member 26 to produce a cutting or shaving action.
To remove the attachment 22, it is but necessary to raise the knob 56 against the flange 34, which will release both members 24 and 26 and permit the attachment 22 to be withdrawn to the left (Fig. 5).
To release the reciprocative member 26 for cleaning, or the like, the plug 38 is removed, the knob 56 is raised, and the reciprocative member 26 is moved through the base member to the left (Fig. 5)
It is clear that there has been provided a shaving attachment which fulfills the objects and advantages sought therefor.
It is to be understood that the foregoing description and the accompanying drawing have been given by way of illustration and example. It is also to be understood that changes in form of the elements, such as would be required to attach to square heads or heads through which the reciprocating stem does not extend, rearrangement of parts, and substitution of equivalent elements, which will be obvious to those skilled in the art, are contemplated as within the scope of the present invention which is limited only by the claims which follow.
What is claimed is:
l. A shaving or cutting attachment for electric shavers comprising a base member formed for attachment to a head of a reciprocative electric shaver, said base member including a stop for engagement with one end of a shaver head and a flange for engagement with the other end or" the shaver head, and a reciprocative member mounted in said base member for reciprocation by the shaver, said base and reciprocative member having cooperative means for removing hairs in restrictive areas, as the nostrils and ears.
2. A shaving or cutting attachment for electric shavers comprising a base member formed for attachment to a head of a reciprocative electric shaver, and a reciprocative member mounted in said base member for reciprocation by the shaver, said reciprocative member including means for engagement with the reciprocative stem of the shaver which actuates the shaver head supporting the greases attachment, said base and reciprocative member :having cooperative meansfor removing hairs in restrictive areas,
as the nostrils and ears.
3. The attachment of claim 2 and including a guide member mounted in said base member, said reciprocative member including a guide slot engaging a portion of said guide member to maintain said cooperativehair removing means in effective relation.
4. A shaving or cutting attachment for electric shavers comprising a base member formed for attachment to a head of a reciprocative electric shaver, a reciprocative member mounted in said base member for reciprocation by the shaver, said base and reciprocative member having cooperative means for removing hairs in restrictive areas, as the nostrils and ears, the base member including a stop for engagement with one end of a shaver head and a flange for engagement with the other end of the shaver head, the reciprocative member including means for engagement with the reciprocative member of the shaver which actuates the shaver headsupporting the attachment.
5. A shaving or cutting attachment for electric shavers comprising a base member formed for attachment to a head of a reciprocative electric shaver, said base member including a stop for engagement with one end of a shaver head and a flange for engagment with the other end of the shaver head, and a reciprocative member mounted in said base member for reciprocation by the shaver, said reciprocative member including "attaching means for effecting reciprocative movement thereof simultaneously Wi '1 the reciprocative member of a razor on which said attachment is operatively mounted, said base and reciprocative member having'cooperative means for removing hairs in restrictive areas, as the nostrils and ears.
