Another object of the -invention is to combine this nostril hair clipper in the handle of a safety razor, so
United States Patent O that it will be available to trim protruding hairs of the nostrils, whenever the person shaving detects such hairs, but will in no way interfere with the use of the safety razor, which may be of any construction.
With the above and other objects in View the invention comprises certain new and useful constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts, clearly described in the following specification, and fully illustrated in the drawings, in which:

Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the handle detached from the razor head.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view through the razor handle, showing the nostril trimmer enclosed there by.
Fig. 4 is a side view of the outer cutter tube, partly in section.
Fig. 5 is a longitudinal sectional view showing the inner cutter shaft in elevation.
Fig. 6 is a longitudinal sectional view of the outer cutter tube, showing `the inner cutter shaft in elevation, and also showing a follower pin and zig-zag cam groove for producing reciprocation of the sliding inner cutter shaft. i
Fig. 7 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view showing the zig-zag cam groove and spring pressed follower pin engaged therewith.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the practical embodiment of the invention, 10 designates a double edge razor blade holder, having anupper clamping plate or member 11, formed with the usual central screw 11a, and a lower clamping plate or member 12, having an opening through which the screw 11a extends to engage the internal screw thread of the tubular handle 13. This construction is old and well known.
In the body of the tubular handle a nostril trimming unit 14 is nested and secured in place. This unit includes the outer tubular cutter 15, and the inner shaft or tube 16. This inner shaft or tube is formed with an external screw thread 17 which is coupled in the internal screw threads 15a of the outer tubular cutter, and another screw thread 18, larger in diameter than the screw thread 17, which is coupled in the internal screw thread 13a of the tubular handle 13.
The inner end of the tubular cutter 15 is formed with 2,764,81 l Patented Qctf.` 2, 1956 ICC 2 long,l triangular end cutting teeth 1:9', equally spaced apart to provide triangular spaces 19a, on the tapered end of the cutter. The inner end of the sha-ft 16 isformed tubular and'j also formed with triangular end teeth 20, which are spaced apart toJ provider spaces: 20ct, which fit snugly within the teeths1`9- of the outer cutter, and are shown, to be slightly longer than theI teeth 19;
`The external thread I8'A of the inner cutter holds the nostrilhair trimmer coupled in the tubular handle 13, andr theL lower end of the inner tubular or partly tubular cutter 16 is formed with a knurled' button head 156i, to permit' of it' being` easily coupled" and uncoupled. The inner cutter' is. coupled tothe outer tubular" cutter by meansofthe screw' threads 17` and 15d, and the two screw threads malte only a single turn or* aturn and' a lhalli eac-h. By/funscrewing the* inner cutter from` tire outer cutter; when the nostril trimmingunit is detached from the razorlrandle, the inner cutter teeth 210 will' be rotated against theouter cutter `teeth 19, andar the same time the inner cutter 15 will be reciprocated if manual pressure is maintained upon it to cause it to ride up and down on the female screw thread 15a of the outer tube or handle 13.
By continuing to rotate the inner cutter in an unscrewing direction, when the nostril hair trimmer is inserted in a nostril, a double shearing action will be imparted to the inner teeth, which have a snug fit in the outer cutter teeth. As the hair trimmer is inserted in the nostril opening and the outer cutter tube 15 held against rotation or rotated while the inner tube is not rotated, or the inner tube rotated while the outer tube is held i against rotation, a rotary shearing action will be `developed against nostril hairs which enter the V-shaped slots between adjacent` cutter teeth, and as the inner cutter is slightly reciprocated by the reverse turning of the inner cutter against the coupling threads 15a, so that no nostril hairs will remain uncut, and a neat and quick trimming job may be completed, without injury to the user or loss of time.
In Fig. 6 I show a modied form of the invention, wherein the inner cutter shaft 30 is formed with the usual end triangular cutting teeth 31, and provided with a zigz-ag cam groove 32, located inwardly of .the external screw thread 33a thereof, which is coupled to the razor handle internal screw thread 13a, as will be readily understood. When this hair trimming unit is withdrawn frornthe handle 13, then the inner cutter shaft 30 may be rotated in the outer cutter tube 33, and the follower pin 34 of the outer cutter tube 33 will cause the inner cutter shaft to reciprocate inside of the outer cutter tube. The
`outer cutter tube is formed with triangular end cutter teeth 35, which cooperate with the cutter teeth 31 to shear the nostril hairs. The follower pin is secured to the end of the flat spring 34a, which is secured in a groove of the outer cutter tube, so that the follower pin can ride easily in the zig-zag cam groove 32 of the inner shaft, when there is relative rotative motion between the inner cutter and the outer cutter.
By this construction the inner cutter remains always coupled in the outer cutter, and double shearing action is accomplished by the reciprocation of' the inner cutter shaft in the outer cutter tube, and by this relative rotation. By lifting the follower pin out of the cam groove 32 theinner cutter may be withdrawn from the outer cutter.`
The ready separation of the inner cutter from the outer cutter, in both forms of the invention, permits of easy cleaning of the inner and outer cutter teeth, and their oiling for best cutting action. It is found that the reciprocation of the inner cutter teeth `against the outer and enclosing cutter teeth results in a betterhair trimming action, and hairs are cut without causing the cutter teeth to pull on them, with resulting pain and discomture to the user.
lt is understood that various changes in the details of the invention, as claimed, may be made.
Having described my invention I claim as patentable:
1. The combination with a tubular handle for blade holding razors, of a nostril hair trimming unit disposed in the tubular handle, said unit comprising an outer tube having end cutting teeth and an inner shaft having end cutter teeth snugly tting in the end cutting teeth of the outer cutter, all of said teeth being of triangular shape and provided with hair receiving slots between adjacent teeth, the inner shaft having an external screw thread coupled in the end of the tubular handle and having an external screw thread of smaller diameter than the first external screw thread which is coupled in the tubular cutter, said last named screw thread being relatively short and having a short travel in the outer cutter tube, whereby the teeth of the inner shaft will have a rotative shearing action in the teeth of the outer cutter tube when the inner shaft is rotated in the outer cutter tube, and will also have a reciprocating action within said outer cutter teeth.
2. A nostril hair clipper, comprising an outer tube having a tapered end formed with longitudinal V-shaped slots and sharpened V-shaped teeth, a cutter shaft having longitudinal V-shaped teeth and V-shaped slots between said teeth slidably and rotatably fitted in the tube so that its teeth will extend endwise of the teeth of the tube, the tube being formed with an internal screw thread in the end opposite to said cutter teeth and the shaft being formed with an external screw thread threaded in the internal screw thread and providing means for coupling said shaft in said tube, said engaged screw threads also providing means for reciprocating the shaft in the tube when said shaft is partly unscrewed and turned back and forth in said tube, whereby the teeth of the shaftvwill be reciprocated within the teeth of the tube to sheer nostril hairs placed between said teeth, the outer end of the shaft having a button to be grasped by the fingers.
