NATHAN K. STANLY, OF NEWBURYPORT, MASSACHUSETTS.
BOTTLE-TAG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 275,432, dated April 10, 1883.
Application filed January 19, 1883. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NATHAN K. STANLY, of Newburyport, in the county of Essex, State of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Bottle-Tags, of which the following is a description sufficiently full, clear, and exact to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which said invention appertains to make and use the same, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which the figure is a plan view of my improved tag detached.
Like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different figures of the drawing. 7
My invention relates to that class of bottletags which are detachable and designed for designating the contents of the bottle; and it consists in a tag composed of elastic rubber or similar material, and having a ring or loop adapted to pass over the neck of the bottle, the loop and body of the tag being integral or formed of one piece, whereby a simpler, cheaper, and more efiective device of this character is produced than has heretofore been in ordinary use. g
It is usual to attach tags of this class to the bottle by means of a short chain passing around the neck of the same, and permitting the tag to swing freely in any direction 5 but tags, when so attached, are easily displaced, and very'liable to assume aposition in pouring out the contents of the bottle to materiallyinterfere'with the proper performance of that operation. The chain being loose around the neck of the bottle, the tag is also liable to become accidentally displaced, so thatits inscripof elastic rubber, or similar material, preferably cntfrom sheet-rubber by means of a suitabledie, and inscribed to indicate the contents of the bottle on which it is used. The hole in the loop or ring should be slightly smaller than the neck of the bottle or decanter for which it is designed, so that when in use it will act contractively to keep the tag in proper position. The tag and loop being in one piece, it will be obvious that the body of the tag is not liable to be accidentally displaced. or turned so as to cover its inscription, and that it cannot fall down into a position to interfere with the use of the bottle.
Having thus explained my invention, what I claim is---- Asan improved article of manufacture, a bottle-tag composed of elastic rubber or similar material, its attaching loop and body being integral, or formed ot'one piece, substantially as set forth.
NATHAN K. STANLY.
