UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES M. BUTLER, OF DANVILLE, OHIO.
VE-G ETABLE-CUTTE R.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 275,136, dated April 3, 1833.
Application filed December 26. 188:2. (No model.) i
To all whom t't may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES M. BUTLER, of Danville, in the county of Knox and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vegetable Gutters; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figurel is a perspective view ofmy improved kraut-outter, and Fig. 2 is a bottom view of the same. I
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
My invention contemplates certain improvements in an implement to cut and stamp cabbage for sauer-kraut," or to out other vegetables; and it consists in theimproved construc tion and combination of parts of the same, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A indicates the handle, set in a socket, B,which has four, or more or less, divergent arms, 0, which support a flat metallic ring, D. To this ring are fastened, by screws E, parallel cutterblades F. These blades are sharp at their lower edges, and are firmly secured to the ring or frame by the nutted screws.
Between the two outer cutter-blades and the rim are fastened two short blades, G, secured to the frame by nutted screws H and to the outer blades by nutted screws I.
When it is desired to use the cutter a layer of cabbage is placed in the tub in which it is intended to keep it, and by stamping down upon it with the cutter it will be cut finely and stamped at the same time. Another layer maybe treated in the same manner till the tub is full.
The cutter may also be used to cut turnips, beets, or other vegetables for cattle-feed, and the two short blades help to out what is in the edges of the cutter, besides bracing the outer blades.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States-- The herein-described sauer-kraut cutter, consisting of handle A, socket B, having arms 0, 'ring or frame D, parallel cutter-blades F, fastened by screws E, and short blades G, fastened by screws H and I, all constructed and combined substantially as and for the purpose shown and set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES M. BUTLER.
