Description
UNITED sTATEs PATENTFFICE GEORGE V. HAZARD, OF TORREY, NEW YORK!` DOOR-FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 26,494, dated December`20, 18591.l
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE V. HAZARD, of Torrey, in the county of Yates and State of New York, have invented a new andiIm# proved Door-Fastener; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had t0 the accompanying' drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon. 1
A is a metallic plate tapering from near its middle on one or both edges to `eachend and bent so that the sides are parallel and of equal length and at a proper distance from each other, according to the size of fastener intended. In each side is a slot extending from nearthe points of A, about half the length of each side, in such directionthat the parts of A between the slots and the door or door casing shall be wedge shaped for the purpose of pressing and holding the door close to its casings.
B is a metallic hooked or toothed bar of suitable size and strength at the end `opposite to the hook, and on the same side with it are two ears o o', turned up from the edges or attached, or the end of B maybe bent around, forming a hole through which and theslots in the sidesofAthe pivotCfw passes, holding B placeand movablenn and traversing the slots.; BG isqinadetofflt and shut compaetlyandl securelyfintoA 1 when the pivot isnearestthe points `of A, covering the hooks `or, teeth and inclosingf them as in abox. i 1y" p Toapply this fasteneito agdoor, draw the pivot to the points of A, lplacethehook 1 or teeth of B against the rabbet `of the door `1 and the bar acrossit,` the partA beinglheld a p in a direct line withlB, or 1nearlyso, orin 1i,` @lined from the door,th`en shut lathe `door, upon the bar, driving the hooker teethfinto the jamb, turndown jA upon theLdoor lor casing and crowd it alongf upon` the pivot, thereby forming a catch restinof close against` i the door and casingandlheldoy the `bar L; What I claim as my` invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is`` l l a The part A constructed and "arranged as f and for theepurposesset forth.
