The invention, in general, relates to building construction and more'particularly relates to an improved window sash affording substantially permanent protection against the ingress of rain, sleet, snow and dust therethrough.
The features of the present invention are entirely suitable and applicable to all types of windows including that class of windows known as casement window whether of single or many panes and whether installed in a single sash casement or a conventional double hung sash.. However, for purposes of explanation only; I have illustrated and shall hereinafter describe the invention in the environment of a single sash window having a multiplicity of panes.
A primary object of the present invention is to provide an improved window sash including means for obviating the ingress of rain, sleet, snow and undue dust and affording the ready removal of one or more panes thereof without dismantling the entire window or disturbing other panes thereof.
Another important object of the invention i to provide an improved window sash of the indicated nature which is additionally characterized by the inclusion of a continuous pane-holding and weather-strip member in at least one direction and a broken pane-holding and weather strip member in another direction for-enhancing the simplicity and ease of dismantling a damaged single pane and replacement thereof.
A still further object of my invention is to provide an improved window sash of the aforementioned character which'is of relatively inexpensive and simple construction.
Other object of the invention, together with some of the advantageous features thereof, will' appear from the following description of a preferred embodiment of my invention which is illustrated in the accompanying drawings. In its preferred form, the improved window sash of my present invention preferably comprises a pair of frames, means for detachably holding said pair of frames together, one of said pairs of frames including integral spaced continuous divisional members running in directions at substantially right angles and dividing the sash into a plurality of equal spaces which are filled with panes, and the other of said pair of frames including integral, spaced continuous members :running in one direction together with broken and removable complementary elements running at right angles to the last mentioned members t divide the other of said pair of frames into similar equal spaces; said members and elements cooperatively affording pane-holding means, and weather-proof rubber strips on the edges of said members and elements, the removable disposition of said elements in said other of said pair of frames affording convenient and ready removal of one or more panes as well as replacement thereof at will.
As illustrated particularly in Figures 1, 2 and 5 I of the accompanying drawings, I provide a pair of frames, designated generally by the reference numerals H and I2, which preferably are fabri- .cated from a light-weight, untarnishable metal or which can be molded from a suitable plastic material or from a hard wood, as desired. The frame I l constitutes the inner and the frame 12 the outer of my improved window sash in that frame II is disposed on the interior of a room in which the sash is installed while frame [2 is on the exterior of the room. The pair of frames H and [2 are detachably fastened together by means of a plurality of screws 13 which preferably are of the round or oval head type and the screw holes in the frame I l are so formed as to afford counter-sinking of the screws as indicated in Figure 2 of the drawings.
