Referring more ,particularly lto the drawings, wherein `like numerals designate like y parts throughout, numeral I0 ,designates generally the casing; of thepresent invention, numeral I2 designates the seatingstructure, and numeral I4 designates a conventional umbrella.
Thecasing .I 0 is formed `of a tubular p ortion I6 having a closed end yI8 and an openupper exteriorly threaded end 22. Positioned on the lower or closedend I8 is a rubber-like suction cup or base portion vwhich isrecessedat-2I for positioning about the .lower-end of the casing.l
,The upperportion of the casing I0 is Aformed from a .multi-sided portionv 24 having a reduced cross sectional end 26 .whichis threaded at 18 for securing on the upper en'df22 .of the-tubular '2 portion I6. The upper end of the portion 24 ls bent back upon itself at 28 to provide an open upper end ,30. The upper portion 2'4 of the casing I6 is preferably vformed with an octagonal cross section, and has each of its faces provided with stamped portions 32 having an upper tongue 34 bent inwardly, and a lower tongue 36 bent outwardly, as seen best in Figures l and .3. One o'f the faces 38 of the portion 24 is provided with a longitudinalrslot .40 for a ,purpose to be hereinafter described.
Looking now atFigures 5 and 6, theseating structure will presently beblescribed. The seating structure I2 is provided with a pair of octagonal rings, a lower one -4'2 andan upper one 44. The octagonal rings '42 and 44 are vertically spaced'by an octagonal sleeve 46, each end f each face of the octagonal sleeve '46 having bifurcated hinge ends '48 and 50 for connection'to the octagonal rings 42 and '4'4 respectively. The upper octagonal rings '44 have eight flat Vstraps 5.2having hinge ends '54 for connection'to'thering 44. 'Theat straps 52 are provided with "downwardly stamped portions 58 providing shoulders for cooperation with supporting means, and 'have conventional fashion. -Afplurality of concentricv supporting cords 'I4 are passed throughthe ra dially spaced pairs of apertures '16. Apluralityy of radially disposed tying cords I2 are secured vvto the outer cord`66 and inner cord 68'to complete the seating portion.
Looking now vat Figures 3 and 4,'the'purpose 'of the slot 40 will be described. An actuating pin I8 is xedly secured tothe spacer'46, has a spacer washer 80 mounted thereon, and a locking'screw 82 for securing the vertical spacer 46 in either its upper or'lower position.
As seen in vFiguresl and 3, the seating structure I2 is in collapsed position Within the upper open receiving end 24 of the casing T9. "The nut 82 on the threaded pin l'is seeuredin the lowermostposition nof vthe slot and a conventional umbrella I4 is positioned within the hollow casing, so that the entire device may readily be carried by the strap 84 secured by the pin 86 to the casing I6. When it is desired to provide a seat for supporting a person desiring to observe sporting events, parades, and the like, the nut 82 is loosened and moved to its uppermost position in the slot40 and secured. It will readily be seen that as the pin 'I8 is moved upwardly, the spacer 46 will move upwardly therewith carrying the flat straps 52 and supporting straps 56 similarly upward. When the upper ends 88 of the supporting straps 56 engage the inwardly extending tongue 34, they will be projected outwardly from the upper portion of the casing 24 being pivoted about the lower octagonal ring 42 and bearing against the outwardly extending tongue 36. At the same time, the flat straps 52 will be pivoting about the upper octagonal ring 44 and bearing downwardly against theupper lip 28 of the casing portion 24. At the same time the flat straps 52 reach a horizontal position, bringing the cords to a taut arrangement, the upper ends 68 of the supporting members 56 will engage the downwardly projecting lips 58, whereby the entire seating portion I2 may be supported. The nut 82 will then be secured in its uppermost position.
By constructing the present invention from hollow tubular material, a convenient storage casing is provided for a conventional umbrella I4, so that an umbrella is conveniently at hand in thecase of inclement weather.
From the foregoing, it will readily be seen that I have provided a novel device which is readily adapted to be opened up to provide a seat at the carriers will. It will be noted that the number of horizontal supporting straps 52 depends upon the number of sides which the rings 44 and 42 are provided with. It will therefore be seen that the number of horizontal supporting straps 52 may be varied by providing rings having dilerent numbers of sides as desired.
The cord used in the present invention may be formed of any of the conventional materials available on the market. Some changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of the parts of my device without departing from the real spirit and purpose of my invention, and it is my intention to cover by my claims any modified forms of structure or use of mechanical equivalents which may be reasonably included within their scope without sacrificing any of the advantages thereof.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim to be new is:
1. A combination collapsible seat and umbrella `holder comprising a hollow casing having a support base and an open upper end, means receivable in said open upper end adapted to be positioned to provide a seat when in a second position, means for supporting said rst mentioned means when in said second position, said rst mentioned means comprising a plurality of at straps hingedly connected to a multi-sided ring reciprocable in said casing, means for moving said ring to an upper position whereby said straps are free to pivot to a horizontal position, and said second named means engageable with the outer portions of said straps to provide supports therefor.
2. A combination collapsible seat and umbrella holder comprising a hollow casing having a support base and an open upper end, means receivable in said open upper end adapted to be positioned to provide a seat when in a second position, means for moving said rst mentioned means from collapsed position in said casing to said second position, means for supporting said rst mentioned means when in said second position, said first mentioned means comprising a plurality of flat straps hingedly connected to a multi-sided ring reciprocable in said casing, and cord means interwoven with said 4flat straps to provide the seat.
3. A combination collapsible seat and umbrella holder comprising a hollow casing having a support base and an open upper end, means receivable in said open upper end adapted to be positioned to provide a seat when in a second position, means for supporting said rst mentioned means when in said second position, said rst mentioned means comprising a plurality of flat straps hingedly connected to a multi-sided ring reciprocable in said casing, means for moving said ring to an upper position whereby said; straps are free to pivot to a horizontal position, said second named means engageable with the outer portions of said straps to provide supports therefor, and cord means interwoven with said flat straps to provide the seat.
4. A combination collapsible seat and umbrella i holder comprising a hollow casing having a support base and an open upper end, annular means receivable in said open upper end adapted to be positioned to provide a seat having a central opening when in a second position, means for supporting said first mentionedv means when in said second position, and said hollow casing and annular means providing an umbrella receiving case whereby an umbrella can be inserted through said open end and annular means for positioning in said case.
5. A combination collapsible seat and umbrella holder comprising a hollow casing having a support base and an open upper end, means receivable in said openupper end and adapted to be positioned to provide a seat when in a second p0- sition, means for supporting said rst mentioned means when in said second position, said rst mentioned means including a multi-sided sleeve, a plurality of nat straps hingedly connected to the upper and lower ends of said sleeve, said casing having slots for slidably receiving the straps connected to the lower end of said sleeve, the straps connected to the upper end of said sleeve having shoulders formed thereon for receiving the outer ends of the straps connected to the lower end of said sleeve when in said second seat forming position.
6. A combination collapsible seat and umbrella holder comprising a hollow casing having a support base and an open upper end, means receivable in said open upper end and adapted to be positioned to provide a seat when in a second position, means for supporting said first mentioned means when in said second position, said rst mentioned means including a multi-sided sleeve, a plurality of flat straps hingedly connected to the upper and lower ends of said sleeve, said casing having slots for slidably receiving the straps connected to the lower end of said sleeve, the straps connected to the upper end of said sleeve having shoulders formed thereon for receiving the outer ends of the straps connected to the lower end of said sleeve when in said second seat forming position, and means for slidably electing raising and lowering movement of said sleeve with respect to said casing.

A combination collapsible seat and umbrella holder comprising a hollow casing having a support base and an open upper end, means receivable in Said open upper end and adapted to be positioned to provide a seat when in a second position, means for supporting said first mentioned means when in said second position, said rst mentioned means includuing a multi-sided sleeve, a plurality of flat straps hingedly connected to the upper and lower ends of said sleeve, said casing having slots for slibaly receiving the straps connected to the lower end of said sleeve, the straps connected to the upper end of said sleeve having shoulders formed thereon for receiving the outer` ends of the straps connected to the lower end of said sleeve when in said second seat forming position, and means for selectively positioning said sleeve in its lower and second positions.
8. A combination collapsible seat and umbrella holder comprising a hollow casing having a support base and an open upper end, means receivable in said open upper end and adapted to be positioned to provide a seat when in a second po- 6 sition, means for supporting said first mentioned means when in said second position, said rst mentioned means incluuding a multi-sided sleeve, a plurality of nat straps hingedly connected to the upper and lower ends of said sleeve, said casing having slots for slidably receiving the straps connected to the lower end of said sleeve, the straps connected to the upper ends of said sleeve having shoulders formed thereon for receiving the oiter ends of the straps connected to the lower end of said sleeve when in said second seat forming position, and cord means interwoven with the upper straps to provide a seat.
