Our invention relates t a figure or gurine, preferably shaped to represent a human being and mounted so as to move and at the same time, impart movement to an associated accessory or member, thus providing an attractive and interesting display piece or advertising novelty, adaptable for use in the show windows and show cases of merchandising establishments, or by giving the figure the shape of an animal such as a bear, elephant, seal or monkey, the device provides an interesting and attractive mechanical toy.
A further object of our invention is, to provide simple and eilective means actuated by a motor, preferably electric, for imparting simultaneous movement to the gure and to a movable part or part associated therewith.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, our invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts, hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a iront elevational view of a moving display iigure constructed in accordance with our invention,
Fig. 2 is an enlarged vertical section taken transversely through the lower portion of the body of the iigure and the movement imparting means,
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2,
Fig. 4 is a vertical section taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2,
Fig. 5 is a view looking upward and indicated by the arrow 5 in Fig. 4'.
Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawing which illustrates a preferred embodiment of our invention, It designates a base, preferably formed of sheet metal, plastics 0r the like, within which is a small motor I l, preferably electric, supported by brackets i2 and mounted on the lower end of the motor shaft i3 is a short crank arm i4.
Rigidly secured to the top of base i and to the plate i5 which supports motor il, is a sleeve I6, on the lower end of which is secured a crank arm Il, slightly longer than crank arm I4.
A pitman IS connects the crank arms I 4 and El; arranged for rotation in sleeve Eli is a tubular shaft iii which extends upwardly from the top of base I, and is rigidly secured in the lower portion 2E of a figurine, which may simulate a dancing girl, bathing girl, mannequin or the like. Where this lower portion 26 of the figure is molded or cast from metal, plastics or the like, shaft I9 is embedded fixedly therein. Lower portion 20 includes the limb and hip portions of the nished figure and detachably connected to the top of said lower portion, is the lower end of the upper portion 2| of the figure, which includes the body, arms and head representing parts.
A chamber or recess 22 is formed in the upper portion of lower body member I9 and a corresponding chamber 23 is formed in the lower portion of upper body member 2 I.
Depending from opposite sides -of the lower edge of the wall of upper body member 2|, are lugs 24, which bear against the inner face of the upper edge of the wall of lower member 26 and screws 25 pass through the wall of the lower member into said lugs, thereby detachably connecting the upper and lower body parts.
A fixed rod or shaft 26 extends through tubular shaft I9 and is secured at its lower end to a bracket 2l depending from plate I5 and the upper end of this rod above the upper end of tubular shaft I9, carries a fixed bevel pinion 28. A horizontally disposed shaft 29 is journalled in bearings 30, formed in the meeting edges of the walls of upper and lower body members 2I and 20 and carried by said shaft is a bevelled pinion 3| which meshes with pinion 28.
Secured on the end of shaft 29 in front of the body is an accessory or decorative member 30a, for instance, simulated fan, boquet, nag or the like and one of the hand representing members of the gure may terminate adjacent the lower end of said member as seen in section, in Fig. 3, thus giving the appearance of said hand grasping said member.
In operation, tubular shaft I9 is partially ro tated, first in one direction and then in the other, by driving connections I4, i and I'I from the motor shaft I3 and thus the figure carried by the upper portion of said shaft I9, will turn part way around intermittently in opposite directions.
Simultaneously, the engagement of pinion 3l with pinion 28 will partially rotate shaft 29, rst in one direction and then in the other, so as to swing the fan, boquet, ag or other article across the face and upper portion of the body of the gure which movement combined with the turning movements of the body produces the desired attractive 'and animated effects.
Thus, it will be seen that we have provided a motor actuated display "ligure or figurine which l is simple in structure, inexpensive of manufacture and Very effective in performing its intended functions.
Minor changes in the size, form and construction of the various parts of our improved display gure or toy may be made and substituted for those herein shown and described without departing from the spirit of the invention, the scope of which is set forth in the appended claim.
We claim as our invention:
In a motor actuated display figure or toy, a housing, a vertically disposed tubular shaft mounted for rotation in said housing and projecting upwardly therefrom, motor driven means within the housing for driving said tubular shaft first in one direction and then in the other, a -xed shaft extending through said tubular shaft, a body representing member securedV to said tubular shaft above said housing, said body representing member being formed in two detachably connected parts, a horizontal shaft journalled between said parts, a pinion secured intermediate the ends of said horizontal shaft, a pinion secured to the upper end of said fixed vertical shaft and meshing with the pinion on said horizontal shaft and a simulated accessory mounted on the forward end of said horizontal shaft in front of said body representing member.
