Description

June 5, 1951 w. H. BAUGH 2,555,672
GARMENT HANGER Filed July 18, 1946 INVEN TOR. (0/4 (080 fl. 8006/),
Patented June 5, 1951 ilbliii'ii STATES EPATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to garment hangers par ticularly utilizable as a hanger for mens trousers wherein the ends of the trouser legs are supported at the respective opposite ends of the hanger.
These and other structural features and relationship or parts are hereinafter more fully described and claimed and a trousers hanger embodying my invention is shown in the accompanying drawing in which- Fig. l is a plan view of the hanger.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof.
Fig. 3 is a cross section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a section taken on line t-4 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view showing an alternative form of the clamping element securable to the end of the supporting body.
The hanger according to my invention comprises a bar I provided with ribs 2 in parallel spaced relation on each of the opposite sides of the bar 5. A clamping device is provided on each end of the bar and preferably formed of sheet metal having a base 3 secured to the end of the bar as by means of a screw (5. Extending inwardly of said end is a strip having a portion 5 on each of its opposite sides inclined inwardly and a portion 6 parallel with the bar and having a portion 1 extending outwardly at less than a right angle to the bar and having an inbent portion 8 parallel with the portion l and a terminal portion 9 parallel with the side faces of the bar. Said inturned portions 9 are formed to provide a series of longitudinal grooves Ill providing ribs l I which engage in recesses in the side faces of the bar l formed by the longitudinal ribs 2.
The bar I has a transverse aperture centrally between the ends thereof to receive the terminal end I 3 of a hook element it as will be understood from Figs. 2 and 4.
The hanger is of a character to permit two trousers to be supported thereby, the legs of one trouser being inserted between the portions 9 of the clamping element and the bar one side thereof and the other pair having the respective legs secured in place on the opposite side of the bar in the same manner bythe clamping portions 53. The edges of the trouser legs in positioning the same on the hanger have one leg introduced between the clamping portions 9 on one end of the device and the other leg of the trousers being likewise 50 an integral ribbed portion 15 inwardly of the respective angular portion [6. The two ribbed portions lb of each clamping element are substantially in parallel relationship with and engage the respective opposite ribbed sides of the bar and preferably the inner ends ll of the angular portion I6 are outwardly bent to form a curved portion whereby the edges of the trousers legsmay be readily introduced between said curved position and the bar to a position to be clamped in place by the elements which are corrugated or ribbed as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, thus securing the trouser legs firmly in position.
The two forms of the clamping element shown in Figs. 1 and 5 are alike in function but the form of the device shown in Fig. 5 requires less material than the form shown in Fig. 1.
It is believed evident from the foregoing description that the various features and objects of the invention are attained by either of the forms.
Having thus described my invention, its utility and mode of operation, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
A hanger comprising an elongated bar having on opposite sides thereof spaced longitudinally extending parallel ribs, an upright supporting element extending through a central portion of said bar, and U-shaped inwardly directed garment clamps extending over the opposite ends of said bar and centrally secured to end portions thereof, each clamp having a pair of angular inwardly extending portions directed towards each other, with their corresponding ends outturned angularly with respect to said bar, said inwardly extending portions having central extended portions arranged in parallel engaging relation to the sides of said bar, and being provided with parallel spaced longitudinally extending ribs parallel with said bar ribs and arranged in vertically staggered relation.
