Description
March 27, 1951 J. BAUM NOVELTY GLOVE FOR ANIMATED FIGURES Filed Nov. 18, 1947 arwe/wtm c]. L,,Ba u m aw- JQLM 9 Patented Mar. 27, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE NOVELTY GLOVE FOR ANIMATED FIGURES Joseph L. Baum, Hartford, Conn. Application November 18, 1947, Serial No. 786,628
2 Claims. 1
This invention relates to gloves and more particularly to gloves having pictured on the back side thereof an animated figure so disposed and related to the glove that movement of the hand and/or fingers of the glove will effect movement of the limbs or body of the figure.
It is an object'of this invention to provide a glove of the kind to be more particularly described hereinafter, which will be so decorated that movement of the fingers or hands of a wearer, in the glove, will efiect movement of a figure picturized on the glove.
Another object of this invention is to provide a glove of this kind which will at the same time provide a desired hand covering and attractive novelty.
A further object of this invention i to provide a glove or hand covering of this kind having on the back or upper side thereof a characterization of an animated figure in which the jointed appendages of the figure overlie the fingers of the glove in such a manner that the joints of the arms or legs of the figure register with or overlie the position of the knuckles of the wearer of the glove whereby movement of the fingers will effect movement of the figure to give the appearance of lifelike movement of the figure.
With the above and other object in view, my invention consists in the arrangement, combination and details of construction disclosed in the drawings and specification, and then more partlcularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings,
Figure 1 is a top plan view of a pair of gloves embodying .a form of this invention,
Figure 2 is a transverse cross section of one of the gloves,
Figure 3 is a top plan view of a modified form of this invention.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral l designates generally a glove having secured on the upper or back side thereof a figure I l characterizing some animated figure. The figure H is made of fabric or other suitable flexible material and cut to the desired shape for being secured to the back of the glove ID.
The figure II, as shown in the drawing, is secured to the glove by stitching l2 about the upper edge thereof. The glove in, as shown in the drawing, is formed with fingers H which extend separately from one end of the glove and are formed as a continuation of the back thereof.
The figure I I as shown in the drawing, depicts a human character in which the appendages as the arms and legs are formed separately. While this figure characterizes the human body, the figure may be such as to embody thecharacterization of other animated figures having arms and legs.
The legs as l5 of the figure II are so disposed relative to the back of the glove [0 that they overlie the rear surface of certain of the fingers M. The body portion as l6 of the figure II will overlie and be secured to the upper surface of the back of the glove, with the legs formed integral therewith. The legs 15 are so disposed that the portions of the legs which characterize the knees or other joints will overlie the position of the fingers 14 below the joints of the fingers enclosed in the gloves.
As the thumb portions ll of the gloves l0 are offset rearwardly relative to the finger l5 thereof, the upper appendages of the figure H, such as the arm I8 in the drawing may overlie the upper surface of the thumb. The arm [8 will be related to the thumb I! in the same related position as the legs I5 are related to the fingers l4 whereby the joint or elbow of the arm will substantially register with the knuckle or joint of the thumb ll.
With the animated figure disposed and secured on the back of the glove II] in this manner, movement of the fingers of a wearer of the gloves will efiect movement of the figures II, This movement will be such as to move the legs and arms about, the simulated joints thereof in a lifelike manner.
In Figure 3 there is shown a modified form of this invention in which the figure of a fish is applied to the back of a mitten. The figure of the fish designated by the numeral 20 is so applied or secured to the mitten 2| that a portion of the figure 2O overlies the back of the hand of the wearer of the glove, a portion of the figure overlies the fingers, and another portion overlies the thumb 22. Upon moving the thumb or the fingers of the gloved hand or both relative to the back 24, an animated motion of the figure 28' is thereby attained. While a fi ure of a fish is pictured in the drawings, other figures may be applied to the back of the glove to obtain the same efiective attraction.
The figures may be applied to the gloves and mittens by embroidery, painted thereon, woven into the glove, appliqued, or in other suitable manner as desired.
I do not mean to confine myself to the exact details of construction herein disclosed,.but claim all variations falling within the purview of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A novelty glove comprising a glove having a back, a thumb and fingers, the form of an animated figure attached to the back of the glove, said figure including appendages, the appendages of said figure overlying the fingers and thumb of said glove in such a manner that the simulations of the joints of said figure will coincide with the knuckles of the wearer of the glove whereby movement of a hand within the glove will effect, the lifelike movement of the appendages of said figure.
2. A novelty glove comprising a glove having a gauntlet, a back portion, a plurality of fingers and a thumb, an animated figure formed of flexible material and secured to said back and including a pair of legs secured in overlying relation to a pair of said fingers with an arm overthe simulated joints of said legs will coincide 4 with the joints of the fingers of the wearer of the glove whereby movement of said pair of fingers of said glove will efiect the lifelike movement of said legs.
