Description

Jan. 30, 1951 T. sATo 2,539,703
SINGLE LOCKING WEDGE Filed June 2, 1948 ATTDRNEYS Patented Jan. 30, 1951 UNITED STATES ATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention relates to a locking wedge device for shoring posts and the like.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a locking wedge device of the character stated comprising a lower member adapted to rest upon the ground, va iloor or the like, and an upper member resting upon the lower member and adapted to be secured to the lower end of a shore, post or the like, the contacting faces of the members being inclined and provision being made for the insertion of a pin through a projection on one part, which serves as a guide to prevent lateral displacement of the members one with relation to the other.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a locking wedge device for shoring posts which is of simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to apply to the post and to the ground, floor, or the like and efficient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. l is a side elevational view of my locking wedging device with the parts thereof connected to the post and to the ground iioor or the like and'with the pin inserted to retain the wedges in locked positions,
Fig. 2 is `an end elevational View of the wedge device,
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1,
Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the `wedge device with the upper part removed from the post,
Fig. 5 is ya bottom plan view of the upper lwedge part,
Fig. 6 is a rear elevational View of the part adapted to be connected to the post,
Fig. 7 is a collective and perspective view oi the two wedging parts.
Referring now to the figures, I represents a wedging part adapted to rest upon the ground, a floor or the like and having inclined top surface II adapted to cooperate with an inclined bottom surface I2 of a top wedging. part I3.
The -wedging part I0 may be formed of a single piece of strip folded to provide an upright portion I4 and the inclined surface II. Secured to the center of the inclined surface II is a guide portion I which extends from one end of the same to the other and prevents the lateral displacement of the parts relative to each other. This guide portion has a series of holes I6 adapted to receive a pin I'I whereby to hold the parts locked together against vertical displacement.v The inclined surface portion II is supported on partitions I8, I9 and 20 and has a plurality of vertically spaced holes 2I through which a tool bar may be extended to move the part I3 and post 23 on part I0.
The part I3 which is adapted to be :connected to a post 23 is formed of a strip of metal which is folded to provide the inclined face portion I2, an upright portion 24 and an attaching portion 25 which lies flush upon the bottom of the post :and is secured thereto by fasteners 26 and by fasteners 2'I extending respectively through upwardly extending portions 28 and 29.
Through the bottom inclined portion I2 is a slot 3| adapted to receive the projection I5 on the part IIJ. Large openings 32 are provided in the bottom portion I2 through which a tool can be extended for securing the fasteners 26 in the bottom edge of the post 23. Partitions 34 serve to support the bottom inclined portion I2 of the part IIJ.
With the part I3 fixed to the post 23 serving as ya shoring member and a bar tool extended through the openings 2I the part I3 :and post 23 can be Worked with the tool upwardly on inclined surface II of part I0 to re-position the post.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A locking wedge device comprising a part adapted to rest on the ground, land having an upwardly inclined top face, a second part having an upwardly inclined bottom face and upwardly extending opposed parallel sides connected thereto that are adapted to embrace a shore post, the inclined facing of the said parts being adapted to cooperate with one another, and the inclined portions of the i'irst part having a longitudinally extending guide projection and the bottom inclined portion of the second part having a longitudinally extending recess that is adapted to receive the projection on the rst part, for slidably guiding the movement of the parts on one another, and to prevent lateral displacement of one with respect to the other, and means for locking the parts in their wedged positions, said locking means comprising a seriesrof openings extending along the guide projection of said first partg'and a pin extending through one of the openings on the guide projection, and adapted to engage the said second part.
2. A locking wedge device comprising a part adapted to rest on the ground, and having an upwardly inclined top face, a second part having an upwardly inclined bottom face and upwardly extending opposed parallel sides connected thereto that are adapted to embrace a shore post, the inclined facing of the said parts being adapted to cooperate with one another, and the inclined portions of the first part having a longitudinally-extending-guide projection andthe bottom inclined portion of the second part having a longitudinally extending recess that is adapted to receive the projection on the iirst part, for slidably guiding the movement of the parts zon one another, and to prevent lateral displacement of one with respect to the other, `and meansjf'or locking the parts in their kvvedgedgpositions, said locking means comprising a series of openings extending along the guide projections fof said first part, through which a pin may be extended to secure the part to the shoring post and the second part having openings through which a tube may be extended to Work the post part over 5 the inclined surface of the second part.
