GIRDLE AND'BRASSIERE AND HOLD-DOWN MEANS THEREFOR Oct. 10, 1950 Filed Aug. 28, 1948 Snnentor Hue/v S. zy/v/v M (Ittornegs Patented Oct. 10, 1950 MEANS THEREFOR Helen S. Glynn, Kansas City, Mo.
Application August 28, 1948, Serial No. 46,628
1 Claim.
This invention relates to a girdle and brassire and hold-down means therefor, and more particularly to the supporters on the girdle or corset for holding the brassire in the desired position.
Heretofore in some instances brassires have been fastened to the tops of girdles or corsets but due to the tendency of the girdle or corset to ride up, the brassire will also have a tendency to rise when worn, or becoming loose above the girdle or corset.
Most girdles are provided on the lower edges with elastic hose supporters and it is the principal object of the present invention to provide elastic strips of material having their upper ends removably attached to the lower edge of the brassire and their lower ends sewed to the elastic supporters at the lower edge of the girdle or corset to hold the brassire in the desired position and prevent its becoming loose and riding upwardly.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide hooks on the lower edge of the brassiere for receiving eyes in the upper ends of the elastic strips and placement of the elastic strips under the girdle and sewing the lower ends to the elastic supporters secured to the girdle and to provide a device of this character simple and economical to manufacture and efiicient in operation.
In accomplishing these and other objects of the invention I have provided improved details of structure, the preferred form of which is illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein:
Fig. l is a prospective view of my invention showing the girdle, brassiere and hold-down devices applied thereto as worn by the person, with parts broken away to better illustrate the invention and the elastic strips being shown in dotted lines underneath the girdle.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view through the brassiere, girdle and hold-down devices.
Fig. 3 is a prospective view of one of the holddown devices.
Referring more in detail to the drawing:
I designates a brassiere having breast portions 2 and 3, sides 4 and rear portion 5 which extend around the body 6 of the user and the rear portions being fastened at the rear by the usual snaps or hooks as indicated at I (Fig. 2). The brassiere has a skirt depending to substantially the waist of the user. Shoulder straps 8 and 9 are provided for the brassiere having adjustable fasteners as indicated at H].
II designates a girdle provided with supporters l2, preferably two in front and two in the rear,
for attaching to the hose (not shown) worn by the user, the supporters being secured to the lower edge of the girdle and provided with the usual fasteners as indicated at I3.
Atsubstantially the center of the front of the skirt portion of the brassire in alignment with the breast portions 2 and 3 of the brassire are hooks 14 which may besewed or otherwise suitably secured to the skirt of the brassiere as best illustrated in Fig. 2. Also secured to the back portions 5 of the skirt of the brassiere at substantially directed backwardly of the front hooks M are hooks l5 also secured by sewing or otherwise suitable means.
16 represents the hold-down device proper and I preferably provide four in number, two in front and two in back of the body of the user. The hold-down devices consist of a strip of elastic material provided with a loop H at the upper end. One side of the loop near the top thereof is provided with an eyelet l8 adapted to engage the front hooks I4 and rear hooks IS on the skirt of the brassire. The lower ends of the strips [6 are sewed to the upper ends of the elastic supporters lZ inside the girdle as indicated at l9 (Fig. 2), the supporters being sewed or otherwise suitably secured to the lower edge of the girdle as is the usual practice. The devices are particularly adapted for use with long brassieres which extend down and inside the girdle. The hooks and the eyelets, due to the loops, are so arranged that they do not contact the body.
In use of a device constructed and assembled as described the lower ends of the strips 16 are attached to the supporters [2 on the inside of the girdle and when the girdle is placed on the body the strips are pulled upwardly underneath the garment. The eyelets l8 engage the hooks l4 and I5 on the front and back of the brassiere respectively. The supporters l2 on the girdle are fastened to the hose and the device is ready to be worn.
It will be obvious from the foregoing that I have provided an improved combination girdle and brassiere with hold-down devices for the brassire which will prevent the brassire from riding upwardly and which will not pull on the girdle.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In combination with a girdle having a plurality of hose supporters secured to the lower edge thereof and a brassiere having a skirt portion of a length to substantially meet the top of said girdle, said brassiere having breast portions a plurality of elastic strips having their lower ends secured to the lower inside edge of said girdle adjacent said hose supporters, loops on the upper ends of said strips, and means for securing the tops of said strips to the lower edge of the skirt of said brassire, said means including hooks on the lower edge of the skirt portion of the brassiere and eyes in said loops on the upper ends of said strips engaging said hooks, the hooks on the front of the brassiere being in substantial alignment with the breast portions of the brassiere.
