Application January 10, 1947, Serial No. 721,256
1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to a garment supporting hook adapted to be mounted on a door hinge and secured in place by the hinge pintle.
A particular object of this invention is to provide a garment supporting hook with a transversely curved base plate adapted to embrace the cylindrical knuckles of a door hinge and a hook retaining means engageable with the hinge pintle for securing said hook in place.
A further object is to provide an inexpensive garment supporting hook which is readily adaptable to a door hinge.
Other objects, advantages and characteristic features of the invention will be more readily understood from the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of the garment supporting hook mounted on a hinge shown in section.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the garment supporting hook.
Fig. 3 is an end elevational view of the hook as it appears on the door hinge.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 5 designates a door hinge comprising flange plates 6 and a plurality of intermeshed knuckle portions 1 adapted to receive a hinge pintle 8. The flange plates are secured to a door frame 9 and a door it by suitable screws H.
A hook l2 comprising a bill portion 13 and a base plate M is adapted to be mounted on said door hinge. Base plate [4 is transversely curved to fit snugly against the cylindrical knuckle portions 1 of the hinge with the marginal side edges I5 of the base plate M being sufiiciently spaced apart from hinge flange plates 5 to permit adequate opening of the door I ll with respect to door frame 9. The upper end of book base I4 is provided with a disc-like cap portion it having a central opening 11. The cap portion I6 is fitted on the free end edge of uppermost knuckle 1 with base plate E i embracing the cylindrical surfaces of knuckles i. Hinge pintle 8 is then passed downwardly through the opening ll of cap portion 1 ii and through the centrally aligned openings provided in the knuckles 1. The hinge pintle 8 is provided with a knob it so that the cap portion it of hook base plate I4 is secured in place between knob l8 and the uppermost hinge knuckle l.
I claim:
A garment supporting hook adapted to be mounted on a door hinge comprising an elongated base plate transversely curved to fit snugly against the cylindrical knuckle portions of the hinge, a disc-like cap member integrally connected to the elongated base plate at the upper marginal edge, said cap member being provided with a central opening and adapted to be fitted on the free end edge of the uppermost hinge knuckle with the elongated base plate extending downwardly therefrom a substantial distance in embracing engagement with the knuckle portion of the hinge, and a bill hook having its lower end integrally connected to said elongated base plate above but in close proximity to the lower end of the base plate and having its free upper end disposed below the upper marginal edge of the base plate in spaced relation thereto, the hook opposing surface of the base plate extending above the lower end of the hook being free of obstructions.
