SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 250,021, dated November 22, 1881. Application filed November 4, 1880. (ModeL) To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A.VREELAND, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bangs for Barrels; and I hereby declare thefollowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a vertical sectional view. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional lateral view. Fig. 3 is a plan view; and Figs. 4 and 5 are respectively sectional and plan views of a modification of my improved ventilating-bung.
The invention relates to vents for barrels, kegs, and the like; and it consists of a rubber bung having a flanged metal core or tube, over which is stretched a slitted rubber or elastic valve, secured to the metal portion by a wrapped wire, or otherwise, as will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates the rubber bun g provided with the flanged metal core B having the tube D. To this is secured a slitted elastic valve, E, preferably in the form of a glovefinger, fastened to the tube D by wrapping the finger with wire, as shown.
In the modificationa thin piece of rubber is stretched over the tube and wrapped to secure it in place. This rubber is not slitted, but the action of drawing the contents from the barrel will stretch it sufficiently to form the air-passage.
Ventilated bungs having elastic valves are not broadly new, and protection is asked only for thespecificoonstruction hereinafterclaimed.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent In a ventilating bung or vent for barrels and the like, the combination, with the rubber bung A, of the flanged metal core B provided with the tube D,- and the elastic slitted valve E secured thereto, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
