UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ERANors H. JENNINGS, 0E WARSAW, INDIANA.
STEAM-GENERATO R.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 245,725, dated August 16, 1881.
Application filed April 16, 1881.
To all whom itmay concern:
Be it known that I, FRANCIS H. JENNINGS, of Warsaw, in the county of Kosciusko and State of Indiana, have invented .centain new and useful Improvements in Steam-G enerators; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to whichitappertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings, which form a part of this specification.
Figure l is a side view. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view, and Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view taken through the boiler.
Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by like letters of reference.
This invention relates to a simple and inex-' pensive device for generating steam, to be used for steaming feed, boiling clothes, and other purposes; and it consists in certain improvements'iu the construction of the same, which will be hereinafter full y described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings hereto annexed, A represents the base or fire-box, which may be made of sheetiron, and formed, as shown, with flanges B B for a sliding door, 0, which is for the admission of fuel, and to regulate the draft. The top of the fire-box is provided with a circular opening, D, for the passage of the flames and the products of combustion in an upward direction through the body of the cylindrical boiler, which is mounted vertically upon the said base. The boiler E consists of a double cylinder connected by end pieces or flanges, F, so that the inner cylinder shall form the draft tube or fine, while the space between the two cylinders forms the water-chamber.
G is a vertical tube or pipe, connected tothe water-chamber, near the lowerend of the latter, for the admission of feed-water, and a tube or pipe, H, located near the upper end of the boiler, serves to conduct the steam to the place where it is to be used.
The top of the firebox is provided with (No Model.)
hinged rings or links I I, arranged on diametrically-opposite sides of the opening D, to engage lugs or studs J on opposite sides of the boiler, which is in this manner retained in position upon the base or tire-box. The parts may, of course, be readily separated for the purpose of packing or storing them.
To the upper end of the vertical boiler a smoke-stack, K, may be attachedin any suitable manner. Said stack is to be provided with a door, L, through which, when desired, the fire may be fed.
I prefer to provide the boiler with a watergage, M, as shown in the drawings, but this is not essential.
From the foregoing description the operation of my invention will be readily understood.
The water fed to the boiler through the tube or pipe G is heated by the flames passing upward through the boilerfrom the fire-box, thus generating steam, which may be conducted through the pipe H to the place where it is to be utilized. Hot water may be drawn oil through a cock or faucet, N, located near the lower end of the boiler.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States-- As an improvement in agricultural boilers,
lll FRANCIS H. 5 JENNINGS.
mark.
