Claims. (01. 155-31) a 1 This invention relates to new and useful improvements in seats for supporting babies, the
view.
Figure 5 is an elevational view showing the chair in folded position.
Figure 6 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 8-6 of Figure 4.
Figure 7 is a fragmentary detailed sectional view taken on the line l-| of Figure 3.
Figure 8 is a. fragmentary perspective view of one of the arm and tray rests.
Figure 9 is a fragmentary perspective view showing the bifurcated end of one of the arm rests.
Figure 10 is a perspective view of the chair assembled, ready for use.
Figure 11 is a perspective view of the chair in folded condition.
Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that the seat structure consists of a pair of side frames consisting or a pair of rear upright members 5,
- these rails, eyes it at the other side are slidable, these eyes and hooks 2 one side and hooks H at projecting from the side edge portions of a back panel II. By disconnecting hooks ll from guide rail II at one side, the back panel I! may be folded or swung to one side against arm rest I at that side as seen in Figure 11.
Seat sections It, It are hingedly connected at their top surfaces as at i'l to the rails I, while their opposed edges at the bottom sides of said sections are hingedly secured together as at I! in order to fold up and together when the device is collapsed or folded with the seat disposed under the back panel I! when swung to one side as seen in Figure 11. This seat structure has a circular opening in which normally a circular plug it is disposed. This permits the seat to be used as a commode, that is, when the plug I0 is removed.
Numeral 20 denotes a tray which is supported upon the forward end portions of the arm rests 8, one end of the tray being provided with depending eyes 2| which receive a guide rod 12 located on one arm rest 8, the left, see Figure 10. The other arm rest, 8, the right, Figure 9, has a slot 23 in the forward end thereof for receiving a stud bolt 24 which depends from the tray 20 and is equipped with a. wing nut 25.
'5 and a pair of forward vertical members 6, 6. 1
The middle portions of the members 5, 6 are connected by rails and by arm rests 8 higher up, the upper portions of the upright members 5 projecting well above the arm rests 8 and provided with chair back engaging hooks 9. A felt or some other suitable strip material I0 is secured to the inner side of each hook 9 and along the back side of each of the uprights 5.
An L-shaped clamp member ii is provided at the lower end of each upright 5 and the horizon- It can be seen that by loosening the nut 25, the tray can be easily disconnected from the slotted arm rest 8 in the process of folding the structure.
It will be observed that numeral 20 denotes a foot rest, one end of which is bifurcated as at 21, the furcations being notched on the underside so that when the bifurcated end 21 str-addles one vertical member 6 and the foot rest 26 is lowered as shown in Figure 4, the notches will engage the ends of a pin 28 disposed through and projecting from the front and back of said member 8. The other end of the foot rest 20 is detachably and pivotally secured to the other vertical member 8, this end of the foot rest being bifurcated as at 29 and adapted to straddle said other member 8 and an eye screw 30 driven into '.the inside of the last-mentioned vertical memtal arm thereof has a clamp screw it disposed therethrough. This clamp is used for clamping the seat to the back edge of a park bench or some other structure upon which the baby seat is to be supported. In this instance, the vertical forward members 6 serve as legs.
Guide rails I: extend longitudinally on the opposed sides of the upright members 5 and along her 6. A cross pin 3| is disposable through openings in the foot rest 20 and through the eye 30 so as to pivotally, yet detachably, secure this end of the foot rest to the adjacent vertical member. Thus, by folding seat sections it upwardly below the back panel I! after the latter has been disconnected at one side by hooks i4 and folded or swung in or forwardly and outwardly against the adjacent side frame or arm rest I and slidingthe back panel upwardly on the guide rods I! either before or after folding it, then swinging the foot rest 28 up against member to which it is pivoted and finally disconnecting bolt 24 of tray 20 from slot ll in arm rest 8 at the same side of the chair and spreading or swinging the tops of the side frames of the chair outwardly on hinges II as fulcrums, the tray 20 may be dropped or folded downwardly and the entire structure compactly folded as shown in Figure 11 of the drawings.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as'new is:
1. A portable baby seat adapted for suspension from an ordinary chair or bench, comprising pairs of front and rear uprights, connecting rails between the front and rear uprights spaced from their lower ends, a two sectioned seat having its outer edges hinged to said rails at the top and having its inner edges hinged together at the bottom so that the seat can fold upwardly, arm rests connecting the uprights above the rails below the upper ends of the rear uprights and at the upper ends of the front uprights, means to mount the rear uprights on a support, a back panel pivoted to the rear upright at one side and detachably connected to the rear upright at the other side to swing inwardly when disconnected and against the bottom edge of which the folded seat engages when folded, a tray on the arm rests pivoted at one side to one arm rest and detachably connected to the other arm rest at the other side to drop down when disconnected, at forward extensions of the arm rests in front of the front uprights, and a foot rest pivoted at one end to the lower end of the front upright at one side and detachably connected to the lower end of the front upright at the other side to swing upwardly on the pivoted end when detached at the first side opposite the tray, whereby the entire seat structure may be folded.
2. A folding chair of the class described comprising side frames including front and rear vertical members and horizontal members connecting the same and including upper arm rests, a two-section seat hinged at the bottom to each other and at the top to the side frames, a back panel connected to the side frames for vertical sliding movement, pivoted vertically to one side frame and detachably connected to the other side frame to fold inwardly against the side frame to which it is pivoted when disconnected from the side frame to which it is detachably connected, the seat adapted to fold upwardly beneath the back panel when slid upwardly to permit the side frames to move toward each other.
