The present invention relates to garment pockets.

One of the objects of the invention is to provide a garment pocket having a seamless bottom portion.

Another object of the invention is to provide a pocket for a garment which forms an integral part of the garment and which may be made during the course of the same operation which makes the garment proper,

A further object is the provision of a garment pocket formed of a unitary piece of material which forms part of the garment proper.

These and other objects are attained by the simple device of elongating one or more of the panels that form part of the garment and then folding the panel over intermediate its ends as hereinafter described. One of the folds comprises the pocket. The panel is inserted into the garment in the usual way and in consequence of such insertion the pocket itself is formed.

A preferred embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing in which- Fig. 1 is a front view of a garment incorporating the combination panel and pocket herein described and claimed;

Fig. 2 is a fragmentary transverse section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1;

Fig. 3 is a fragmentary longitudinal section on the line 3--3 of Fig. 1; and

Fig. 4 is a fragmentary perspective view of the combination panel and pocket forming the subject matter of the present invention.

The outer shirt I is shown in the drawing incorporating the combination panel and pocket herein claimed. This is by way of illustration only and the invention is not to be construed as having application only to an outer shirt. It may be applied to any type of garment having vertically disposed panels.

Shirt II) is provided with two front panels I2 and I3, respectively, one on each side of the longitudinal closure of said garment. Since both panels are of the same construction, it will be necessary to describe only one of them, to wit, panel l2. It will be seen that panel I2 is a longitudinally extending panel sewed at the top and sides to the shirt [0 of which it forms a part in the usual way. Its novel construction, however, is apparent from Fig. 4. The panel comprises an upper portion M which is folded double on a transverse line drawn at the point 2 where it is desired to have the pocket opening. This folded portion is indicated by the character reference l5. Fold 15 is made permanent by means of transverse stitching 16. Below fold I5 is another portion ll of the panel. The length of this portion corresponds to the usual depth of a standard pocket. At the bottom of portion [1,

- the panel is folded forwardly and upwardly to form a portion l8, corresponding in length to portion l7. Such being the longitudinal dimension of portion IE, it is clear that its upper end meets fold I5. The upper end of portion I8 is folded forward and downward to form a fold l9 and a lower portion 20. Stitches 2i on fold I9 render that fold permanent.

It will be seen in Fig. 4 that a pocket has been formed between portions I! and 18 of the panel and that said pocket is provided with a seamless bottom. When the panel is inserted into the garment as has above been described, the stitches which sew the sides of the panel to the garment also sew the sides of the pocket together. These side stitches are shown in Fig. 2 and are given the character reference 22.

The present embodiment is but a preferred embodiment of the invention and modifications and changes may be incorporated therein without departing from the basic principles of the invention.

I claim:

An outer shirt having one left and one right front longitudinally extending panel folded upwardly and then downwardly upon itself to form three superimposed layers, the forward layer being continuous and integral with the intermediate layer along the top of said intermediate layer, the rear layer being continuous and integral with the intermediate layer along the bottom of said intermediate layer, said layers being fastened together at the sides, said folded front panels comprising garment pockets.
