CURTAIN-CORD TIGHTENER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 238,202, dated March 1, 1881.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, THEoPHiLUs ARNDT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mount Joy, in the county of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Fixtures and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawin gs, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part. of this specification.

This invention is an improvement on the ourtain-fixture described in my PatentNo. 185,47 0, granted December 19, 1876.

The nature of said invention will be hereinafter more particularly set forth and claimed.

In the aforesaid patent (to which reference is hereby made for explanation of the general arrangement and operation of my curtain-fixture) the endless supporting-cord is described and shown as passed twice around two doublygrooved upper cord-holders, and also once around two lower cord-holders which are not doubly grooved. Experience has demonstrated that it is desirable to lessen the friction at each point where the cord touches any one of the holders, and also to provide for holding the cord with adjustable tightness.

In the accompanyingdrawings, Figure 1 represents a detail rear perspective view of one of my improved lower cord-holders. Fig. 2 rep resents a vertical longitudinal section through said lower cord-holder. Fig. 3 represents the parts of said lower holder detached.

In said drawings, 0 designates the attaching or supporting plate of one of the'lower cord-holders. It is provided with a prismatic 40 recess, 0, on its rear side and a tubular extension, 0, on its front. A central aperture passes through said extension and plate into said recess. A nut, D, fits within said recess 0, and receives the screw-threaded end of a spindle, E, which has at its outer end a disk or plate, E. A flanged collar or small sleeve, F, turns freely on extension 0, and a second similar flanged collar or sleeve, F, turns on the former collar F. The cord Gr passes around the oy- 5o lindrical part of collar F, between the flanges ff of said collars. By screwing the little spindle E toward or from plate 0 the gripe of these flanges upon the side of said cord is tightened 0r loosened at will. The said 001- lars also act as antifriction devices for said cord.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The combination of flanged anti-friction collars F F with a cord and adjustable cordholder, substantially as set forth.
