SWING PACKAGE A ND SWING SEAT Fi led May -1, 1944 Patented May 1, 1945 FFlC'E SWING PACKAGE AND SWING SEAT Peter De Bruin, Monterey Park, Calif. Application May 1, 1944, Serial No. 533,544
Claims. (01. 20 -46) This invention relates to a swing seat and swing package and it has for its object to provide a swing seat provided with means for holding it securely in position upon the swing-ropes. The seat is also provided with means for securing the foldedwing ropes in a bundle upon the face of the seat when the whole assembly is to be presented for sale in stores. It is my object to provide as an article of manufacture and sale, a swing, for the use of children, having all of the features necessary to ensure their complete safety. To this end I provide a seat which is made the subject matter of this application, a supporting bracket which is the subject matter of my co-pending application, Ser. No. 533,543 filed May 1, 1944, and a rope take-up for adjusting the effective length of the swing ropes, with safety, which rope take-up has been made the subject matter of my co-pending application, Ser. No. 533,542 filed on May 1, 1944. It is one of the objects of the present invention to incorporate in the seat portion of the structure tie receiving means by whichthe ropes and their attached bracket portion and even the take-ups may all be neatly and securely bound to the seat and offered to the trade in an attractive and easily handled form.
In the accompanying drawing:
Fig. 1 is an under-side view of the swing seat,
Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the structure of Fig. 1, and
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the seat illustrating the ties for binding the folded swing ropes and associated parts to the seat.-
Like numerals designate corresponding parts in all of the figures of the drawing.
In the drawing 5 designates a swing seat which may be made of a synthetic resin or other plastic, wood, metal or any suitable material. The swing ropes 6 pass through openings 1 formed in the seat adjacent its ends, said rope engaging in the Iongitudinally extending channel portion 8 secured centrally upon or formed integral with the under side of the seat. 'I'ransversely extending bracing ribs 9 further aid in stiffening and bracing the structure. Relatively small openings l0 formed through the seat adjacent the edges thereof are provided for the reception of cords or other ties II by which the swing rope 6, folded to bundle formation, may be securely bound to said seat. The ends of the swing ropes may carry the brackets I2 so that, as delivered to the purchaser, the swing may be quickly erected. One of the rope take-ups (not shown) may also be bound in the bundle by the ties but form no part of the invention. I
It is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the precise construction set forth but that it includes -Within its purview whatever changes fairly come within either the terms or the spirit of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A swing seat comprising a flat body portion having openings for swing ropes formed therethrough adjacent its ends, and substantially upon the longitudinal axis thereof, and a channeled rib carried upon the under face of the seat and extending longitudinally thereof and lying between said openings.
2. A swing seat comprising a flat body portion having openings for swing ropes formed therethrough adjacent its ends, and substantially upon the longitudinal axis thereof, and a channeled rib carried upon the under face of the seat and extendin longitudinally thereof and lying between said openings, and transversely extending bracing ribs extending from said central channel to a point adjacent the side edges of the seat.
3. In a mercantile package made up of a swing seat and a swing rope for suspending said seat when in use, the combination with a swing rope, a swing seat comprising a relatively flat body portion, having openings formed therethrough of a size to permit the passage of said swing rope and through which said rope is passed, a longitudinally extending channel member carried by the under side of the seat and lying along the longitudinal axis and between the swing rope openings and serving to receive the swing rope, smaller openings formed through the seat adjacent the front and rear edges thereof, ties passing through the small openings and beneath the seat, said ties being of a length to extend across the under side of the seat and to embrace and bind to said seat the swing rope when the latter is brought to bundle formation of a size to lie within the area defined'by the seat.
4. In .combination, a swing seat comprising a wide fiat body portion, having openings formed therethrough upon its longitudinal center and adjacent the ends thereof of a size to permit the passage of a swing rope, a longitudinally channeled member carried upon the bottom of the seat upon its longitudinal center line, a swing rope the bight portion of which underlies the seat to lie in the channeled member, and the two runs of which pass through the said openings to the upper face of the seat where, they are folded to lie in bundle formation within the area of said seat, transversely extending bracing ribs disposed toward the opposite ends of the seat and extending from the channeled member toward the sides of the seat, there being openings formed through said seat along its side edges and in substantial alignment with said ribs, and ties extending through said last named openings and serving to embrace the seat, the rope bundle upon the top face of the seat and the bight portion of the rope beneath said seat.
5. A mercantile package made up of a swing seat and a swing rope for suspending said seat when in use, said swing rope being formed into a bundle upon the upper face of the swing seat, said seat comprising a flat body portion having openings formed therethrough adjacent its ends, and substantially upon the longitudinal axis thereof through which the swing rope passes, and a channeled rib carried by the under face of the seat and extending longitudinally thereof and lying between said openings, said seat having pairs of opposed opening formed therethrough adjacent the front and rear edges thereof, and ties traversing the said openings ofa length to extend across the underside of the seat, through said openings and about the bundle of swing rope upon the upper face of the seat.
