1 Claim.
This invention relates to a combination faucet and drinking fountain, the prime object of which is to provide a useful and novel device of the character stated which will be effective in operation and inexpensive to manufacture.
A further object is to provide a useful and novel combination mixing faucet and drinking fountain so arranged that water of different temperatures may be mixed but only the cold'water can be admitted to the drinking fountain.
A feature of our invention is the manner in which the spout or outlet nozzle is attached to the valve box or main casting, permitting said spout to be moved from left to right or right to left while using any one or all three of the control valves.
Another feature is that the invention allows for the drinking of cold water from the fountain outlet While simultaneously running either hot or cold water, or both, through the faucet channel.
Other objects, advantages and features of the invention may appear from the accompanying drawings, the subjoined detailed description, and the appended claim.
In the drawings;
Figure 1 is a front view of our combination drinking fountain faucet.
Figure 2 is a front cross-sectional view of the valve box and spout mixer bowl.
Figure 3 is a side cross-sectional view of the same as it appears at point I or 3 on Figures 1 and 2.
Figure 4 is a side cross-sectional View of the same as it appears at point 2 on Figures 1 and 2.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the numeral I indicates the valve control for the hot water supply. The numeral 2 indicates the valve control for the cold water supply to the drinking fountain. Numeral 3 indicates the valve control for the cold water supply to the faucet outlet.
Numeral 4 is a plug or cap threaded on the lower part to fit in the valve wells to insure against seepage of water when valves are opened. Said plug is square or hex shaped on the upper part to allow for ease in assembly and in changing of packings. Said plug is also bored through to allow for passage and turning of valve stems.
Numeral 6 indicates an octagonal shaped collar threaded and shaped as shown on the inside for the purpose of attaching the mixer bowl and outlet spout l to the main casting-or body 5.
Numeral 8 is a packing placed between collar 6 and sleeve 9, to prevent seepage. 9 is a cylindrical sleeve threaded at bottom to faucet channel bowl of spout l, and flanged at the top to turn freely on lower lip of collar 6.
I is a circular disc or plate resting stationary on the top flange of sleeve 9. Said disc is slotted on'either side to allow passage of water from inlet control valves to outlet spout I, and drilled in the center to allow passage and turning of sleeve II.
Sleeve H is cylindrical in shape, flanged at the top and turns on plate It, with packing 12 between, and is threaded at the bottom and fitted into the upper channel d of, spout l.
The letter a, indicates the hot water supply inlet and b the cold water supply inlet. The letters a and e indicate the faucet outlet for the hot and cold water.
When the drinking fountain valve 2 is opened, cold drinking water may be obtained through outlet at of spout 1. At the same time, by opening valves l or 3 or both, hot or cold water or a mixture of both may be obtained through the faucet outlet 0, e.
The outlet channe1 d is so shaped as shown in the drawings, that the stream of drinking Water is sent upward and outward and by regulating the amount which the valve is opened, the arc of the stream can be controlled.
Having described our invention, we claim:
A combination faucet and drinking fountain comprising in combination, a body having separate cold-water and hot-water inlets and provided with separate central and side passageways at opposite sides of the central passageway, said central passageway and one of the side passageways leading downwardly from said cold-water inlet and out the lower side of the body and the other side passageway leading downwardly from said hot-water inlet and out the lower side of the body, a longitudinally extending spout member having chamber forming walls at its inner end pivoted to the lower side of the body for swinging movements with said walls enclosing the lower end of the body and the chamber in communication with the side passageways and provided with a longitudinal passageway leading from said chamber to an outlet provided in the lower side of the non-pivoted outer end thereof, a hollow sleeve member pivoted in the lower side of the body in communication with the said central passageway and projecting downwardly from the lower side of said body into the chamber of the spout, a connecting member extending inwardly into said chamber of said spout from the wall thereof and connected to said sleeve member, the said connecting member and the spout provided with a'continuous passageway leading from the sleeve member to an outlet provided in the nonpivoted end of the spout above the first-named outlet.
